Hi,

Is it possible to restore IE core? If not, can anyone provide a list of files associated with IE core (i.e. the files removed when IE core is selected for removal)?
By mistake, I've removed IE during nLite build, and half of the programs I use work only semi now (plus a large number of websites I need won't work in other browsers).
I'd rather hack it back into the OS, than reinstall, since this system is setup quite enough, reinstall will waste more time.

i think its not possible... its a core part of windows... there will be tonns of reg entires needed

Isn't possible to just run the I.E 6 install?

I tried that, the IE6 says there is a newer version, and IE7 beta just says "Setup cancelled":( I imagine because the IE core is removed, the new IE won't install.

just make a new disc..

Try to remove the I.E keys in registry (be careful which you remove)
and then try to run the I.E 6 install.......

The registry edits would probably take hours alone, even if you knew exactly what to do.

Getting the proper files in the proper places is also going to be extremely annoying. Your best bet though, if you really want to attempt it, is to download HFSLIP. It's a slightly less featured command-line alternative to nLite, but it's a *must have* for slipstreaming things into windows. nLite integrates most things with silent installers, while HFSLIP slipstreams them into the CD as "fake" actual components.

It has IE6 slipstreaming. If you're to have any hope, you'll have to download HFSLIP, open it(it's a .cmd script) and muck around for hours until you figure out how it's all done and what you require(assuming nLite didn't break anything else).

Or you could just reinstall. IE core is one of those things that is a b***h to put back. In my messing around I managed to windows not to load all IE required DLLs, and believe me - Maxthon is one slow startin' browser!

I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS - nevertheless it worked for me

expand d:\mshtml.dl_ c:\IE\mshtml.dll
expand d:\mshtml.tl_ c:\IE\mshtml.tlb
regsvr32 c:\IE\mshtml.dll

then you should be able to launch iexplore.exe from C:\IE dir

CAUTION!!!!
the thing you will get with this trick wont be a secure browser!
it will only be a workaround for you to give you more time to redo your iso
- what i strongly recommend (this isnt full listing just quickhelp)

Any idea what it takes to change Internet Options? (It says there are restrictions LOL)

You may check if browseui.dll is present in your SYSTEM32 folder.

It may also require some reg entries.
If you want, I can tell what entries iexplore.exe checks when opening the menu so that someone can make a .reg file you will import.
I could do it but my windows is in french and some of these entries are localized.

Not sure if these forums allow me to bump a thread that's this old... but for anyone out there that is currently trying to install Adobe Photoshop CS3 with a very light XP install (read: no IE core), this is the exact fix you are looking for. Your installation will not launch until you get those 3 files expanded and then register the dll!

You'll find a neat solution for this in the HFLSIP forum by searching for mshtml.

You could try to use the Microsoft Document Explorer from VS2005 as browser, it works even if the IE core has been removed, and is just as good as IE7.
