I just built a new computer and I seemed to have made the mistake of buying two vantec tornado 80mm fans. With the fans being so loud, no one in the house can sleep. My question is, can anyone recommend the most quiet 80mm fans anywhere? Currently I'm running open case but I'm so afraid something will ever fall on my CPU fan that I'm frantic for a solution. I need quiet so that I can sleep, but I also need to stay cool! Thanks for the help.

Your running an open case, by that you mean no side panel etc? but still case mounted? If so, what case?

why not adjust the voltage on them? u can just run them at half speed?

for the price of it, may as well buy the fans instead of play with the wiring.
But each to his own.

well it just seems kind of pointless to me to buy new fans when ur current fans have the potential to work as u want them to.

If you use all the other voltages available you can get anywhere from 1.7 to 24 (ohmy.gif) volta... although a heatsinked rheostat would be better for continuous control.

Tornados are horrible for their noise. Even undervolting them won't help much... no.gif

If you want quiet fans, Nexus or Scythe are the way to go. SilentPCReview.com is a great place to look for quiet computing tips. smile.gif
