Hi,
I have my Power Settings set as folows:
  • (Plugged in settings)
Monitor Off after 20min & do thing when I close the Lid.
  • (On Battery settings)
Monitor Off after 20min & Sleep on Lid down.
the problem is that when I'm plugged in & close my Lid the monitor turns off, but when I open the Lid it never turns on.

How can I fix it or at least check the source of the problem?
Spooky
Sounds like something is not set properly in the power profile. Did you save the changes to the power profile? Look in the advanced power settings at the profile your using, you will find lots of things there you can set.

yes of course it's saved.
I've even restarted a couple of times since...

Is it going into always-available standby mode, rather than just turning the screen off?
MtK
How can I tell, the monitor won't turn on again... unsure.gif

but seriously, I don't think so, cause Messenger is still connected (& other application seem to be still alive)

Sorry, double-posted...

even is this always-available standby mode is the issue, that's not what I want or set it to do...

That is normal. My laptop does the same thing.

You're supposed to press the Power button after opening the lid.

Basically, the lid doesn't act as a power switch, and needs the software to check its state (that's why it can turn *off* the computer, but never *on*).

but the computer isn't turned off at all.

power/hd/network/num/caps leds are on on working...

I had this problem when I set in my power options to standby the laptop when the lid was closed. But because I shared media with my xbox360, I have Always-Available enabled so the machine doesn't fully go into standby, rather a lower power state. Whenever I opened the lid again though, it would not come back on, and it was hit-or-miss as to whether the power button would bring it back to life. Sometimes it did, sometimes it didn't.

I now have just set it to turn my screen off - like you - and it works fine now. What laptop do you have MtK?

Broken lid switch? The screen is supposed to turn off, but so is the computer.

as much as I don't like the idea, it's possible.
but I still don't understand why the computer should go off...? who asked for it?

Off or sleep, it's much the same thing.

The point is that the lid switch sends a signal to the OS which then decides what to do.

so, you're saying that my lid is not sending a msg to the OS?

but the monitor does go off on lid close...
just not om again.

I don't want it to sleep or turn off the OS...

The screen automatically switches off when the lid is down far enough. It's a hardware feature.

SOLUTION: (At least it worked for me, my laptop has a nVidia GeForce Go 7600).

I have an MSI L745 Laptop, and I was having the exact same problem. Lid down = Computer on standby, Lid back up = Computer would "Come back" but the screen would remain turned off.
After looking for HOURS for drivers that would let me actually install them under Vista, I landed on www.laptopvideo2go.com. I downloaded the "correct" driver version (Watch on top, the little boxes let you select the proper OS). After installing version 10x.xx (I believe theres a newer one already which I havent tried out) the problem was gone. Though I still have "weird one-time blinks" on my screen when waking up from standby, the screen does pop back on.

WORKAROUND: Untill I figured out it was a drivers issue, I'd just open the lid, wait till the HDD led would "calm down" and then just close and open the lid again, It'd make the laptop go back on standby while the screen was lit, Id just then wait till it would go back into standby (While holding the lid open) and then Id just wake it up by pushing the power button.

I hope it helps.

Hi,
thanks for jumpping in...

I have an ATI X1600, & I have the latest drivers.
I'm not sure my problem didn't occur when I had XP installed, so I guess that a lid problem is the issue here.

My monitor does not have any LG drivers (never had), so I can't really do anything about that.
I'll try looking for some new ATI drivers & see if it helps...

Thanks again,
