For those willing to wait a few months before upgrading their PCI-E video cards,

The Inquirer has collected information from sites regarding the new low-end
video cards from nVidia, based on the GeForce 8xxx-family. They are expected
for release in early March.

The cards will be based on the G84- and G86-cores which are based on the G80,
but will be cheaper due to less RAM and a lower clock speed combined with less
shaders and memory bus bandwidth.

Thanks for the info Punto. Someday I'll get myself a new video card and give my fiancee this one. I find it hard to believe she doesn't complain about low FPS on Sims 2 on that old ATI Radeon 9800 Pro. wacko.gif

I cant wait, I need a new card asap. But those look like very good cards and prices smile.gif
I am still using my Radeon 9800 Pro, and considering a 7900 GS. But it looks like the 8600 GT/Ultra would be worth the wait.
Any more info about these cards?

[edit] I notice in that picture no external power connector and the card length is short. Hope its real.

too bad its way past 90 days for me

Well I was looking at it because I am in the US and as long as I follow the instructions they discount by the exact price you paid for the card. However I know that the products that are sold directly on a company site are usually a rip-off and its cheaper to go through a reseller such as NewEgg. It might make more sense to just buy a card and then eBay it when you want to upgrade.

thats odd, the sims 2 used to run perfect on my 'old' radeon 9800 pro!.

come to think of it, it run fine on a radeon 9600 as welll.... i think your just finding excuse to upgrade.. we all do it!

"GeForce 8800 Ultra to Come Out on April 17"

It seems that the release date of the 8800 Ultra with GDDR4 RAM, 8600, 8500, 8400 and 8300 will be all released on April 17. For the people that have questions with the 8500; It’s based on the same core as the 8600 but clocked on 450MHz and has GDDR2 RAM @400(800)MHz. There is still little to non info on the 8400.

EDIT: Forgot to say that the 8500GT, with a price of 79US$ to 99US$, outperforms the 7600GS. It will be unlikely that these cards will have passive cooling witch was found on several 7600GS cards.

so no 8900 yet sad.gif
