Ok, been searching all over for this answer. I have a new system, just installed a few days ago, and am attempting to get it up on my network. I have all the other computers networked just fine (one running XP media center, one with Vista 32 bit), and they can see each other, and my 64 bit comp. The 64 bit comp can ping everyone and browse the net. Not only are there no computers in Network Places (including itself) the only thing there is my router. I have uPNP devices enabled, and it sees the router.... however, I cannot use view workgroup computers. No errors, just the default system beep sound after a second after clicking it. I have found no solutions for this anywhere, and I am hoping that someone here can be my saviour. I am almost bald from ripping my hair out over this one!!!!

Make sure your new machine is in the same IP class, subnet mask and workgroup.

Do you have Client for Microsoft Networks installed and working? I recently built a XP64 rig and I had a currupt file during install that broke CfMN and I had similar symptoms.

I posted a fix in the Client for Microsoft Networks thread a few down.

thanks for the reply.... I read that post. and I remember having troubles with that file. Now, here is the question... do you have a good copy of localsp.dll?? I can't find one anywhere. I would appreciate it if I could get it.

Ok, problem solved..... although I have no clue how. I went on the net, and grabbed a localspl.dll from some site. dropped it in system32 folder and.... nothing. still same issue. Looked around for a few more hours, tried waving a dead chicken around, still nothing. Then, I saw the post about SP2.... so I figured why not? D/L it, and boom! it works. now, I am not sure if it worked cause I now had the dll listed, and it just updated it, or what.... not willing to try to reproduce it. but, thanks again to everyone who replied. I love forums that actually help!
