For anyone not quite satisfied with what we have been given to do a defrag in Vista, here is a link to a "Free" defrag tool that I have found to work well. It also gives back the capability to defrag individual disks. Link : http://www.auslogics.com/disk-defrag/

Whilst on the subject of freeware there is also a memory defrag by Bernt Levinsson here Link :http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Memory-Tweak/MemDefrag.shtml

And a slightly underated (in my opinion) Memory Meter which works well in conjunction with the above memory defrag.

Link Here: http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/Better_Me...emorymeter.html

I have found them all to work well and must give a high score for simplicity.
Hope that the information is of use to somebody out there.

I checked for this as well, since I would like to remove Task Manager and therefore I would also remove defragmentation. I now use JkDefrag64, I waslocheck the one from AusLogics and it would be a good choice as well. However I like my apps, small and JkDefrag is just 1 file (more if you need a GUI with more options for it).
This 1 as well as the one from Auslogics are reviewed here.

Another 1 is 1 with a Contig (from Sysinternals) frontend known as Power Defragmenter GUI. Which also seems to do really well.

Contig (Sysinternals now Microsoft) and PowerDefragmenter (a GUI) works really really well - http://vistarewired.com/2007/02/15/defragm...er-than-normal/

Another unhappy user of the Vista defragger, i do miss the GUI. Switched to Diskeeper now, much better than the previous versions.
