out of those 3, i would pick the commando.

what cpu do you plan on using? do you want it to support ddr3? do you ever plan on using SLI or CrossFire?
FabulousFred
E6700 Core 2 duo

ddr3 is looking to be way to pricey.

Just one GPU.

This EPP stuff for memory timing says it only works with Nvidia.

Do they mean the ram will run faster or just have better plug and play timings? I can set timings in bios myself.
puntoMX
EPP is just marketing... It will set the best timings for you automatic but with some tweaking/restarting you can do it yourself. Itīs just made for nOObs newwink.gif.

didnt know that, thx. i spent a good few days getting my ram to optimal settings. my dfi bios has like 20+ settings for ram.
FabulousFred
So, P965 and 680i.

If I dont overclock much and can set my own timings.......????
FabulousFred
I might want to run SLi so the 680i is it.

I was thinking about the Striker smile.gif ??
FabulousFred
Ordering tonight!

The Parts

ASUS Striker Extreme Mobo.

2 sets of Corsair PC2-6400 Ram for 4 gigs

Intel E6700 core 2

I already have an antec case and a PSU that should be fine.

Ok PPLs......Anything wrong with this? I love opinions smile.gif

330$ on a mobo, lol. its a great mobo but still... that will be one heck of a computer! what video card do you have?
FabulousFred
Yea that price has sunk in..

I have an EVGA 7900gtx

What are your thoughts on the EVGA boards http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16813188013

Lifetime warranty sounds better than blue lights and keychains(asus) blink.gif
ripken204
well im wondering about you. do you really want SLI? you could get a 200$ mobo w/ intel chipset. an e6600 which will easily reach e6700 speeds and beyond. sell your 7900gtx. get an 8800gts.

if you do that, you will save $100+ on the mobo, 100$ on the cpu, ebay your 7900gtx for 200$. thats 400$. a 640mb 8800gts costs ~350$.
just something to throw out at you smile.gif
FabulousFred
hmm..I didnt even know the 7900gtx was going on ebay for that much.

I do think I really like the warranty on EVGA......

So, the E6600 is the same chip as the 6700 just clocked lower?
ripken204
the only difference between the e6600 and the e6700 is that the e6600 has a multiplier of 9x and the e6700 has a multiplier of 10x.
all this helps out on is overclocking, but when your using multipliers or 9x and 10x, they really don't make that much of a difference unless you have phase change and you are trying to overclock to an insane speed. then there is the clock speed but you can easily overclock the e6600 to e6700 speeds, EASILY. so get the e6600.

here are 7900gtx's on ebay:
http://search.ebay.com/7900gtx_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40

i love evga also, if you get an 8800gts, get an evga.
FabulousFred
I have read about a price drop on the Q6600 to $266 next month. Will anything really use 4 core in the next year and a half?
ripken204
ya ive been talking about that in some other threads. operating systems already support multi-cores. newer game such as crysis will take full advantage of it. if you want to wait a month or so then i would suggest waiting. the Q6600 is the same clock speed as the E6600 but with 2x the cores. it will definatly future proof you.
FabulousFred
Definitely something to sleep on wacko.gif
