I was wondering has anyone attempted to run a virtual floppy from within WinPE 2.0 to do udpates?

I need to be able to boot winpe 2.0 and run a virtual floppy to make some changes to the BIOS, as the tool I have only works in DOS, before installing the OS.

Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks for your help,
Randy

I have not used a mounted floppy but I have updated the bios from PE 2.0

Here is something that may help you in your quest....

UPDATE: I just used this program and it works very well for mounting a floppy image in PE. I did not update a BIOS but I think it will work for what you need to do.

Never tried it in WinPE but I do know that FileDisk utility can mount floppy images of the img or ima format, but not virtual floppy disk format (i.e. VFD) in BartPE.

FileDisk requires some registry entries and I'm not sure how the registry keys can be incorporated to your winpe build.
In BartPE, it is done with plugins and it works well.

The Problem you may face is the environment. PE out of the box will not run the 16bit code and will probably not allow the calls the program requires.

It's a bit of a pain but what we do is either use a virtual floppy with PXE/RIS or to load a small image onto the hard drive and boot onto the hdd.

Thank god most manufactures are creating a windows based 32bit flash method.
