I released a vista-like webview for my windows ME system.
I used FSRESULT.HTT (located in C:\windows\web\): this template is used by search results page on win ME.
I need help with HTML to locate the webview at the bottom of the windows: can someone help me (tihy or Max for Exemple).
This is my windows explorer (it's not a fake):

To test my webvien on Win98 (i don't know if it Works!!!):
1) Create a backup copy of c:\windows\web\folder.htt;
2) download the attached zip file
3) extract the archive in C:\windows\Web\ (replace folder.htt)

NoNameneeded, cold you post your webview? I like it very much!

1: Make a copy of the file folder.htt (That's the original webview you get to see in almost every folder), you can find it in Windows/Web
2. Extract all these files to Windows/Web
http://members.kabsi.at/LIGHTYEAR/Webansic...0Vista-Look.zip(3. You can delete ac.exe and forget about the german "Lies Mich" Text, it's only needed for WinXP)
If you don't want this Vista-look Webview anymore just delete the folder.htt and rename the old one (that you made a copy of before) back to the original name (folder.htt).

I have the same problem...
My webview is less attractive, but is based on original microsoft html code ergo:
- stable (no graphicals artifacts)
- adaptive: the fsresult.htt show more information on file (for example "author" in microsoft office file)
- image/html preview: when you select an image, fsresult.htt show a thumbnail
Is it possible to merge the proprieties of fsresult.htt with nonameneed's webview?

That would be great and I'm actually quite sure that this is possible but I just don't know how.
My webview is based on a htt file I once found but unfortunately there are no details, no picture preview etc. displayed.
I also tried to modify an orignal folder.htt (from Win98) to make it look like Vista but I didn't get far.

Yes, you avoided the problem by putting the links section on top of the window but it doesn't look like Vista anymore (it still looks good, though).

In my opinion the "favorites link" pane introduced by Vista is a revisited clone of "favorites bar" introduced with win98/ME and XP: is not necessary to include this in a webview (for me).
Alternative solution (hard To implementing! tihiy were are you?):
- hacking the status bar in windows explorer; it coul be the best solution: the info panel in Vista is a status bar replacement.
Marxo, i find this, coul be useful:

It's surely not necessary but it looks more vista-ish and it looks more integrated than two separate panes.

Hi Xstyle
1) My webview is based on microsoft code for windows Me...win98 is not 100% compatible with that code...sorry;
2) i'm testing some stuff for Windows Me and 98 (i hope)...
3) request: could you move the info panel down to obtain a more vista-like apparence?
I found this
http://jegview.free.fr : is fantastic but is not similar to vista. Marxo: can you obtain something from this (for example: the image preview windows?).
marxo
Aug 23 2007, 07:35 AM
Well, i got inspiration and I finally made something worthy of posting...
Image is now repeated when you resize so there is no crop bug, i cleaned the code a bit to lose the parts that aren't necessary and I made a bitmap (looks nice but it is yet just a test one it will look way better).
I would like to find a font that isn't that ugly (since there is no ClearType in Win98) as Segoe UI. Tahoma looks so lame and others are not so OOB. I guess i should try Calibri or maybe Myriad Pro or something like that...
Have a look...

I used "vista buttons" and i implemented the buttons on top of the window and i used a backround for them, in the same style as the buttons.

(it's not the windows taskbar.... if u thought so)

No matter how you optimize it, it will slow things down. Win98 version seems to work faster, but anyway, you must know - it uses:
- MS HTML rendering engine, which is slow and buggy;
- MS HTML CSS engine, which is slow and buggy;
- MS HTML image engine, which is slow and buggy;
- MS HTML JScript/VBScript engine, which is slow and buggy.
But maybe some magical tricks possible...

Oct 27 2007, 03:40 PM
I don't notice a visible speed penalty using webview or not really. Granted I use classic.htt instead of folder.htt as the default webview so there is no left pane stuff to load for most folders. (Trying to find a way to use a system wide background image for folders.)
And for the folders I have that have a custom (and heavy) htt, I almost don't see any difference in load speed to be honest.
AthlonXP 2600, 7200RPM drives and IE 5.5 (maybe it's faster than IE6).

Well in every way it must slow things down but still if it was optimized then it would slow down things a bit less.
The fact that win98 version is faster might come from the fact that it is using BMP and lighter code...
