Vize 0.3 Beta

Here it is.

I want bug hunting on this first release smile.gif Please be informative on your bug reports.

Suggestions are also welcome.

I hope we get our own Vize forums section here in MSFN soon. I still have to ask for permission to xper.

Happy Vizing! cool.gif

Crap I don't have Vista nor time to install it. sad.gif
Anyway, I hope Vize will get the same success than XPize. smile.gif

Framework 3.5 requirement fixed
doomangel
i guess i have to thank you! Great work!edit:about .net 3.5 req, u used vc# or vc++ 2008?
ok, i just checked the add/remove apps screenshot.
DonDamm
hey, XPero, you're somehing else!! :^) Thanks for your efforts and work. I've always liked XPize and am doing a new install next week for a friend who wants Vista. This will make her smile!! Cheers.
XPero
Thanks all for comments. Yeah I´ve used VS 2008 but targeting the framework 2.0, it was just the setup that by default make framework 3.5 a requirement. Now fixed.
Smiley89
Great, thank you very much! thumbup.gif

I'll try it as soon as possible...

I thought Framework 3.5 was still a Beta... Is it?
Do I need to upgrade to 3.5 beta 2 to install Vize? Or, can I wait for the final version and meanwhile use the 3.0? blink.gif
XPero
No, Vize will work normall in Vista, no framework install required.
zedox
thumbup.gif Super stuff XPero! Looks very sexy so far!

Suggestions/Improvements:
  • Change patch button to "restart" at the end of patching of system files.
  • For the vize basic application to start straight after installation.
  • Start menu shortcut to go in its own directory on the start menu.
Bugs/Mistakes:
  • "...files which contains non-Vista icons, images..." should read "...files which contain non-Vista icons, images..."
  • "Please choose an task below to proceed:" should read "Please choose a task below to proceed:"
  • Donate button would read better as "Click here to support the Vize..." rather than "I will support the Vize..."
  • Visit Vize's Website button would read better as "...and other projects by XPero." rather than "...and other XPero's projects."

I'm so glad you've gone down the C# route, as I know this langauge biggrin.gif
XPero
Thats the kind of reply I like, thanks zedox smile.gif
zedox
another thing, i'm unsure of the actual name of your program...

Is it Vize or Vize Basic?
Maybe the name should be written consistantly throughout the application...

Wow, long time since I was last here (or at least it feels so). Anyways, I just got a new laptop, so I'm looking forward to this. Would test it, but I really don't wanan run the risk of screwing up my laptop. Good luck.
MagicAndre1981
Hi XPero, do you have a List of all modified bmp?
XPero
zedox:

For now, this release of Vize is called Vize Basic because it has basic features (No extras, no source integration, etc..), BUT I think I will be calling it Vize and start adding those features in future releases so people dont get confused as many did with XPize Lite and Full. Good point, thanks.

Ultimate Predator:

You can try in VM if you really want to test and report bugs smile.gif

MagicAndre1981:

You can have a look to Program File where Vize is installed to see what's changed. I really feel lazy in keeping track of every sigle resource I modifiy. I will let you all know only of important changes with every version.

Hi

Is projected a version for x64 ??? No XPiza x64, no Vize x64 .. Pleassseeeee i´m on 4GB RAM whistling.gif

Thanks for your support
XPero
A new resource patcher is being developed by a third person. When it is finished there will be XPize and Vize 64bit support. It doesnt depend on me.
zedox
the new upgrader installs ok but when I executed vizebasic.exe it asked for setup.msi

zedox: Now the shortcut 0.1 version created should be wrong. Please, make sure the 0.2 update deleted VizeBasic.exe from Program Files - XPero - Vize. Sorry you will have to create a shortcut yourself. This is fixed in the full 0.2 version.

MagicAndre1981:
That happened when running the exe or when selecting an option in the main screen?

Thanks both
Smiley89
I had the same problem on my Vista Home Premium machine.
When I try to "Reload System Files" I get the same problem, but the missing file is 'C:\Windows\system32\twext.dll'. And, if I clic on "continue", Vize Basic hungs up for a while and then all I get is an empty list (couldn't test it properly because I have effectively no files to reload).
Can this file be present only in other version (ex. Ultimate) of Vista?

Anyway, here's the details, which I think are quite the same of MagicAndre1981:

************** Debug JIT **************
Per attivare il debug JIT, è necessario impostare il valore
jitDebugging nella sezione system.windows.forms del file di configurazione
dell'applicazione o del computer (machine.config).
L'applicazione inoltre deve essere compilata con il debug
attivato.

Ad esempio:

<configuration>
    <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

Quando il debug JIT è attivato, tutte le eccezioni non gestite
vengono inviate al debugger JIT registrato nel computer,
anziché essere gestite da questa finestra di dialogo.

this happens while patching and rechecking for modified files.

Okay, thanks. I know what's wrong and its fixed. I'm working now on a NSIS installer better than MSI, will released the fixed version when ready.

Vize looks great, thanks XPero.

I have a question, this release (0.2 beta) fix this icons?. Both look so crappy:

And this... in XP and Vista...
XPero
Those only have 16 colors support, so I dont think I can fix them.

so, i understand, its beta 0.3 (like really early and stuff), but is it a lot to be asked, to generate a system restore point by the installer prior to installing your software. i just had to reset everything on my vLited Win Vista Ultimate x86, because after using vize my system couldn't load logonui.dll, because it was missing. and the last restorepoint was 8 hours ago, so i had to sit through 15 minutes of restoring on my core2duo and now had to reinstall kaspersky, because this was the last restorepoint (prior to installing KAV).
I'm lucky that it's running again.

So my suggestions would be, generate a Systemrestorepoint (or at least ask the user to do so) and while being still in beta mode, flash big red letters across the screen, that this is beta, save everything beforehand, know what you do and so on...

i've used xpize, which worked like a charm, therefore i was happy to see something similar for vista and installed without much thinking.

so, advice to all who may try it, do a backup of vista beforehand smile.gif

Instead of wasting your time adding red faces, can you please tell us what you removed with vLite and other information of interest to help to resolve that bug?

Also, I agree on your suggestion about System Restore.

Thanks

Hi XPero,

Great job as usual !

Nevertheless some questions:
1. How do you check the files needed to be reloaded ? Did you think about my proposal (patching the version resources) ?
2. Did you succeed in patching the comctl32.dll in WinSXS folder ?
3. Why not integrating VistaGlazz ?

Hi,

1. As I told you, it is a good idea, but I'm not using that method. I prefer checking file size (I will probably add file version in next versions). But this is not my priority now.
2. No, I'm not worried about resources right now. I want to have a solid and safe base and then start adding new things.
3. Same as above.

Cheers
