mniceguy81, I have no idea what you changed and no idea what the effect would be to change it to nothing. I see no ComputerType in your winnt nor mine. Do you mean Unattend.txt or some other file? Why not use nLite? If you will answer the questions in my first reply, perhaps we can make some progress. Is it totally impossible to try under XP x64, perhaps under a VM system? If nothing else, run nLite again and strip out all your Update Packs and AddOns. Enjoy, John.

Ok and sorry will try again first with Windows 7 + VMware if it does not work will do a clean install with Windows XP Pro 64 bit and then post if i find a solution.

mniceguy81, how about the questions I asked? BTW, you should get no errors running nLite or during install. Perhaps a few in the System log after install. I am curious what AccountInit.bat is. Please attach it so we can take a look. Enjoy, John.
mniceguy81
Aug 10 2009, 02:10 AM
The AccountInit is file i got from Kurt_Aust folder structure but i will attach it and It starts RUN1_XP-64 and i think it has something to do with IE8.
I uploaded it as ini file because the upload does not let me upload it as .bat

First of all i say "hello" to all this contributors to this thread, especially to Kurt_Aust. Your work is fantastic. Thanks a lot. You made my life much much easier.
I think i can contribute a little piece to the unattended dvd.
Topic: Windows Media Player and MS Movie Maker. On one day i want so save a new movie compiled with movie maker but always movie maker gave me an error: can't save, check ram and/or disk space. I have 8 gb ram and several GB (50GB) free ... so this is not the reason. After some investigation i found out this is an codec error problem. In movie maker preferences -> automatic codec download does not work.
Solution: You need the WMP111 XP64bit codecs. They are shipping with the media player.
From wmp11-windowsxp-x64-enu.exe you have to extract the file wmfdist11-64.exe. This file is the codec installation file. Unattended installation goes as usual:
../wmfdist11-64.exe /Q /O /N /Z
i hope this will help someone.
best regards, genu

genu:
It seems to work for me on a very basic test (I normally use Nero), maybe someone else can confirm this problem?
mniceguy81:
Yipe, you certainly took a chainsaw to the OS. Considering that errors start appearing at T-13 my best guess is that one of the addons you are using is responsible:
CODE
F:\New Project\Downloads\5er_MSSignedThemes_Addon_v6.1_x64.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\5er_WMPLyricsPlugin_v0.3_Addon_v2.1_x64.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\DriveSpace_v5.3.5.5_AddOn.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\Gorki_AddOn_JkDefragGUI_201008.cab
F:\New Project\Downloads\CyberAddonCPU-Z1.52.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\CyberAddonGPU-Zv0.3.4.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\DaRkMaDnEsS_Tune_Up_Addon.7z
F:\New Project\Downloads\Kels_Brushed_Inspirat_addon_v1.cab
F:\New Project\Downloads\usb_disk_format_tool_addon.rar
C:\Temp\Reapers_CCleaner_2.20.920_AddOn.7z
Try dropping these first.
If that's not the cause then the next thing to try is an iso without the component removals, don't put those addons back in, rather keep reverting ever closer to an unmodified install media.
Once you think you have isolated the cause add everything but the suspected culprit back in for another test to confirm if it is in fact the source of the error as sometimes it can be a conflict between two or more items that are perfectly fine by themselves (
speaking from tedious bug tracking experience here).
mniceguy81
Aug 10 2009, 03:20 AM
Thank you Kurt_Aust at the moment i'm doing the tests and will report backl which one of these is the culprit.
mniceguy81
Aug 11 2009, 08:24 AM
Thank you everybody i found the culprit, it was DaRkMaDnEsS_Tune_Up_Addon.7z and i confirm that if you have Windows 7 64 bit and Vmware they work perfectly.

mniceguy81, as far as I know MS has not and will not release DirectX 10 or 11 for XP. I think it is just one example of their strong arm tactics to convince us to move to Vista and now W7. I get the impression that the later versions of DirectX are quite an improvement over 9, but I am not a gamer and don't know personally. At some time in the future W7 will be required to support higher core count processors and I will move to it then. Enjoy, John.

Aug 11 2009, 02:21 PM
Kurt_Aust : Please don't misunderstand me. In most cases Movie Maker will work - without the extra codec installation as described by me.
But sometimes it dont work. BTW this is platform-independent. I experienced the same error on x86 machines. From my point of view sometimes some codecs are not able to self-register "right".
Normally the K-Lite Codec Pack works like a charm, as far as i know this is the only codec installation setup who checks exsisting codecs first.
My instruction was meant for problematic cases.
mniceguy81: johnhc is right. DirectX 10 or later will be only aviable on Windows Vista or later. This is the MS-Way to enforce you to buy a new OS. If you really need dx10 or later i recommend to test your game on win7.

Kurt_Aust and all. If you have not heard or experienced, one of the latest MS updates, KB973869, is broken and shows as waiting to install after it has been installed. This seems to be an x64 problem (XP and 2000), but is expected (by some) to be corrected soon. I installed the latest updates on my real machine today and installed KB973869 again, but it is still showing as ready and waiting. Enjoy, John.
BTW: This is the second time I have typed this, as MSFN had some kind of data base error and lost my previous one.

Notes:1. New versions of Visual C++ 2005 sp1 redistributable.
2. Added Adobe Flash ActiveX control to the default install.
3. Added support for the following applications:
Adobe Reader patches (these also work with AR lite)
Tool Tip FixeruTorrentBOINC Screensaver4. Removed support (remarked out) for Adobe Shockwave, I swear that thing has a VM detector. It will install silently in VMware Server or VirtualBox but asks to install a toolbar when installing (using same image) on a real machine.
5. One of this month's hotfixes (KB973869) continually shows up on Windows Update even though according to add/remove programs it has been installed. If you have the same problem please notify Microsoft support.
Johnhc:
I most certainly know about KB973869, I've been on the phone to Microsoft technical support about it and it's the primary reason this month's update wasn't posted yesterday (I'm also having trouble with the eSnips upload service).

hi,
that is a great tutorial, i am thinking to make use of it, but firtly i would want to clarify some doubts.
i want to create a xp 32 bit, and so, the entire procces is the same or there are some changes that i have to care of them??
i want to create that dvd by installing in the virtual box the xp and then update it and then use nlite, but the procces will be the same as being in a normal hard drive??
and i saw a lot of stuff in this tutorial and i dont understand the purpose of the,
so which is the purpose of the Config_XP-64_date.zip file, and instead of downloading the updates from here the updates from the
and which is the purpose of some but files, such as : Run1_XP-64.bat, AccountInit.bat, .....

SilverBlade:
This guide is designed for 64-bit XP which, despite the similarity in name, is from a different code base (Server 2003) than standard 32-bit XP.
Simply put, while most of the concepts and methods of execution used in this guide are also applicable to 32-bit XP, the update files required are completely different.

Aug 17 2009, 06:26 AM
but from where i will find a similar Config_XP-64_date.zip for my OS? and which is the purpose of this zipped folder??
and which are the differences that i must take in account when making my updated OS?
and which is the purpose of the bat files
Kurt_Aust
Aug 18 2009, 05:17 AM
Silverblade:
- You won't find a similar Config_XP-64_date.zip for your OS as (to the best of my knowledge) nobody has written one.
- The purpose of the zipped folder is implied by its name, it sets the required configuration for using this guide.
- The batch files install those items not supported for direct integration by nLite.
If you seek to understand how this works I'd suggest tracking down an Windows 2000 install CD and have a go at using the similar
guide for W2K. That guide has more detailed descriptions of how the process actually works (and be sure to check out the
screenshots).

With 5eraph MIA and as a hotfix reordering will be necessary (ran out of numbers) there will be some changes to the format of the download lists come September. This post should be taken as a preview, I've attached the updated batch files but if you do use them, backup your hotfix directory first as they are likely to change. Note that I haven't bothered to purge this post or the files for this specific forum.
Also Kelsenellenelvian has put out a nice little
x64 CPL bonus pack.

As was stated by me a couple of months ago
in this post:
I'd use
%Source%AddOns\sw_lic_full_installer.exe /Sinstead. The Shockwave installer you've commented out bothers you with sh_t about a toolbar and stuff.
You can get the executable that does not do that

Meowing, I think I'll just leave it unsupported for now. I just don't feel comfortable with adding a direct link to a version that would normally require one to agree to a redistribution license.
Yes, I know I have a few other direct download links in the guide but they are to versions that are freely available without such precondition.

The link got emailed to me a long time ago by someone still using a Macromedia e-mail address. This was when I asked them about support for HomeSite as a separate software distribution. Homesite is now part of Dreamweaver. I think they maintain this direct-download for several older software packages (automatic downloads by those) and are licensed by Adobe to offer it that way. As a user you don't need to have a license before downloading, or they failed to tell me about it anyway..
It is the most recent version, as I see here:

Hey all,
Having a problem with the integration of two hot fixes: KB973346 and KB971032. nLite gives me a '...Hot fix integration failed!' error when it reaches each of these. I'm trying to create a fairly simple slipstream, the only drivers are RAID, tried both IE8 and IE7, verified 'read-only' is off every file, not tweaking much, verified hotfix order etc. Still no go on these two hotfixes.
I'm using 5eraph's June update pack (5er_UpdatePack_XPx64SP2_2009-06_2.7z) plus the subsequent hotfixes. Here is the last_seession.ini from my last attempt:

Something is causing those hotfixes that are normally run from SVCPACK at T-13 to fail, some things know to cause this include:
1. Running nLite as a limited user (rather than as an administrator)
2. Running the WMP11 slipstreamer after nLite (rather than before).
Also try disabling any anti-virus while running nLite.

1. I'm definitely running as admin
2. I'm not including WMP11 at all
I will try disabling antivirus (Symantec) and let you know how that works.
Thanks again.

Kurt,
Unfortunately, slipstreaming continues to fail on those nine hotfixes. I've tried disabling antivirus software, including WMP11 and tried running nlite on a different computer. Most of the nine are optional but 150, 880 and 910 are not. Not sure where to go next with this next.

Hey all,
Having a problem with the integration of two hot fixes: KB973346 and KB971032. nLite gives me a '...Hot fix integration failed!' error when it reaches each of these. I'm trying to create a fairly simple slipstream, the only drivers are RAID, tried both IE8 and IE7, verified 'read-only' is off every file, not tweaking much, verified hotfix order etc. Still no go on these two hotfixes.
Same problem here. Those two fixes fail. No other issues, though. I am using the updatepack.

Might I ask you two to PM each other with a list of possibly interfering software that you have installed, particularly security software and/or anything to do with the optical drives (burning programs / drivers / emulators).
Something is causing the process to fail and as most users remain unaffected it seems likely that a common program on your systems is the culprit.

If you care to browse through the various options for Internet Explorer you will see that it's required location varies, short answer:
IE7 requires that it be at Run1, with IE8 & IE6 it can be integrated (actually svcpack), though of course they can also have it at Run1.

Kurt_Aust, you restore the Quicklauch via batchfile but the "show desktop" icon is missing.
To restore the quicklauch icon :
- copy from an exsting XP installation the file "Show Desktop.scf" as a template to quicklaunch ...
- or create a new one.
To create a "Show Desktop.scf" make a textfile with this content:
CODE
[Shell]
Command=2
IconFile=explorer.exe,3
[Taskbar]
Command=ToggleDesktop
... and safe it as "Show Desktop.scf" and place it in AddOns.
Then add it to the RUN1_XP-64.BAT batchfile after :
CODE
REM fix Quick Launch toolbar (broken by IE8 installer)
MkDir "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
MkDir "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
New:
CODE
Copy "%Source%AddOns\Show Desktop.scf" "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
Copy "%Source%AddOns\Show Desktop.scf" "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
Full:
CODE
REM fix Quick Launch toolbar (broken by IE8 installer)
MkDir "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
MkDir "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
Copy "%Source%AddOns\Show Desktop.scf" "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\Default User\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
Copy "%Source%AddOns\Show Desktop.scf" "%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch"
... and you are done.

To create a log file of the running of the batch file I altered the RunOnce to look like:
CODE
CMD /R %Source%Run1_XP-64.bat >"%SystemDrive%\Run1.log" 2>&1
This logs the commands and the error messages, if any, into the log file. There is no output to the monitor, but the output from the installers and other running programs continue. Enjoy, John.

JohnHC: Yes I looked at the option of creating a log file in just that manner, but decided that it was more important to provide visual feedback to any watching user.

Kurt, I do believe that the likliest common piece of software we are using is Windows * x86. The only way I could get those hotfixes to successfully integrate was to run nlite on a x64 machine.

I did a test using your last session.ini, but the "show desktop" icon was there for me. 5eraph has
indicated that he should be able to resume work on his update packs soon and that he will be implementing a separate fix for this issue, maybe that will work for you.
I did however note that you have an erroneous hotfix in your list, "120-WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB956744-x64-ENU.exe" is only for users of 5eraph's update pack, those using the original Microsoft hotfixes need to place "WindowsServer2003.WindowsXP-KB956744-x64-ENU.exe" at RunOnce.

This guide should still work without such problems on a x86 machine, I tested it a couple of times on a horrible old klunker of a Win 2000 box when I was confirming that SP2 could be integrated using the files from 2K3 x86 SP2. Also there have been 150 downloads of the files required for integrating SP2 so at least that many have run the process on a x86 box.
Do the actual executable files for KB971032 et al get copied to \AMD64\SVCPACK when you run the process on your x86 box?

None of the hotfixes I listed are included in \AMD64\SVCPACK in any form. I'm not intergrating SP2 because I'm starting from a SP2a source disc. I've tried this on three different XP x86 macines including one with a fresh install and only the post SP3 critical patches (built with nlite) with no luck.

_Other_:
I've done a few VM tests and I see what you mean, I suspect that it is the result of an x86 OS not being able to determine which x64 hotfixes cannot be integrated and instead must be executed at T-13.
Try the following:
1. Run the process as normal (yes, you'll get errors)
2. At step 9 also copy the hotfix directory across
3. Use the updated attached Run1_XP-64.bat (remove the .txt extension)
If it works I'll update the guide over the weekend.

Thanks Kurt,
The batch file worked well with a couple minor exceptions:
1) For me, the following hot fixes don't fail in nlite and were therefore redundant: 024 (KB923789), 120 (KB956744) and 148 (KB954459).
2) I received a cmd syntax error on 024 (flashplayer). I'm guessing it doesn't support one or both of the switches.
After installation I ran Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer with the September catalog file (this is a network isolated machine) and it showed no critical updates missing (except KB890830 of course).
Thanks for all your work on this guide!

I just found this thread today. So far, I am impressed. I have not tried it, yet. But, I will tomorrow. That is, after I have looked over the scripts. At first glance they look good.
I have all of the hotfixes, etc and I am able to seed your torrents. I don't have a lot of bw, but every little bit, right?

How close is this guide to working on an x86 OS?

At the very least, how did you get a listing of all of the available updates?

How close is this guide to working on an x86 OS?
I want to set one up starting with a XP x86 SP3 CD.
At the very least, how did you get a listing of all of the available updates?
Thanks.
The technique isnearly the same, the patches and hotfixes are different of course.
In general
Unattended Windows helps and there is an article
Getting the hotfixes or you may have a look into
this thread.

Updated Guide and Run1_XP-64.bat to deal with hotfixes not being set to execute from SVCpack when the process is run under x86 Windows.
Genu:
Yes I know about the SPTD update, but as the changelog indicates that the only modifications have been Win7 compatibility fixes, I don't see any need to add support for it into the batch files over the one that can be extracted from the actual daemon tools installer..
