Windows Lupus is going to be Windows 98 with a more modern interface. That's just the basic idea.Check this site out: http://www.winprj.net/board/ to find out more under Windows Lupus Section.

From the website http://www.winprj.net/board/

Main core updates are:

- Updates and bug fixes (Official and Unofficial)
- Core files updated with newer (ME) Files
- 32-bit Icon Support [R]
- UDMA DOS Drivers
- Add/Remove Programs Replacment [Rm]
- Shutdown Replacement [Rm]
- System Properties Replacement [Rm]

Main GUI updates are:

- Skinning Support + Skins [Rm]
- Animated Boot Logo (WLL) [R]
- Shell update (Icons, Bitmaps, Dialogs) *
- Thumbnails fix [R]
- PSD Thumbnails in Explorer
- Animations in C/M/D Dialogs
- Control Panel Update
- Fonts Update
- Welcome Center [WLWC]
- Windows Minesweeper [WLMS9]
- Windows Lupus Style [Official Alpha Style] NEW

Planned Features:

- These functions and components are planned and/or are in development.

- Windows Photo Viewer [WPV]
- Windows Live Messenger Look 'n' Feel [WLMLNF]
- Windows Calendar [WCLR]
- Windows Vista Screensavers
- more to be added...

Ideas:

- These functions and components are planned but they are still not in development.

- Windows Clock Applet
- WebView Redesign
- System Properties Replacement (sysdm.cpl)

Open for discussion:

- These functions and components are opened for discussion and I need some opinions about them.

- Windows Sidebar
- Carousel Menu

* Shell Update is maybe the biggest part of WLP. It is based not just on changing resources, but also re-styling dialogs and making them more user-friendly. With some new Vista-like dialogs you will be able to easily find and reach desired destination or finish you task.

[R] - Features entirely transplanted from Revolutions Pack.
[Rm] - Features originally from RP, modified.

EDIT:Sorry!Link was broken because I accidently typed a hyphen after the website name.FIXED.

I always thought (and still do think) that "Windows Lupus" sounded too much like a virus for your operating system! Lupus is, of course, the body's immune system's malfunction in which it attacks healthy tissues instead of germs and viruses. This causes much pain through inflamation. Perhaps Windows Lupus causes much pain and suffereing to the Windows operating system and lets in all kinds of unwanted viruses? I wonder why the name "Lupus" was chosen? Who's currently working on this project?
Daniel-J
You beat me to it, computerwizkid! I didn't see your reply until AFTER I posted mine!

The feature I like is the fonts because Marxo(Handler of Windows Lupus)has made fonts in Windows Lupus added a similar type of technology of Cleartype and now thry anti-aliase themselves.
Some other features:
Vista Screensavers( thumbup.gif )
All Original 98 Schemes removed(The only one left is Windows Classic which will be a non-lameskin theme)
DIALOGS are going to be more like Vista (That means easier to use opening files)

Can you tell us a bit more about it that cleartype like technology or are you smoking too much weed right now ?

I posted a tutorial on how to patch the fonts in the RP thread.

Well, better than i thought! thumbup.gif
There are some things i want to highlight:
- "Do you want to restart?" dialog is popping several times and you must click No. You must work this around as Gape did;
- Seems that you're not using (all) RP7.11 libraries. I noticed that RP7.11 feats/bugs aren't there and anti-Lupus code ( blushing.gif ) is not present;
- BROWSEUI.DLL is not the latest version;
- Monitor image is not updated in shell32.dll;
- I've saved updated logo for the last moment hoping for something breathtaking and... f*** pshhh lol...
- Some cool wallpaper is needed.

I know about the first one, **** it I couldn't work that stuff out.
I know that I am not using all RP7.11 libraries, I just don't understand why the hell would you write anti-Lupus code instead of improving something else wacko.gif
How do you mean "not the latest version"???
I know that the monitor isn't updated it is still Alpha 1.
Updated what? Didn't understand that quite well...
I have a ql wallpaper but I don't want to include it yet (same as some other stuff)...

Please help improve this POS Alpha 1...

To put more oil on fire (whistling.gif) i suggest(ed) a more interesting idea than both projects (and many many _thanks_ to marxo for deleting all my posts from his forum board - if you fear my ideas means they're right):

GnuWin

It's a "simple" (and logical) evolution of the Open Sourcing Windows 9x idea: using an updater (such as GUP) gradually substitute any Windows component with an open source alternative.

Just my 2 €cents

Hmmm, with all due respect smile.gif, my guess is that every member of the board knows about your idea, and even those that liked the idea in the first place are by now annoyed mad.gif by the number of times you re-submit it, in the attempt to prove that it is

Your supposedly "more interesting" idea was published more than two years ago, and since it appears that, exception made for some bla-bla, no progress whatsoever was made on it, I presume that you must start to get used and live with the fact that, maybe because it is too "advanced" for us newwink.gif, noone has found it interesting enough to actually work on it. sad.gif

Ok, now really, I have no idea what you're talking about. Maybe that is because we lost a whole db?
I am sure that none of your posts will be deleted (of course if they aren't against the rules of the board).
I really hope that you're talking about WPC because I am sure that I haven't deleted a single post made by you.

As for the GnuWin suggestion, i don't want to comment that, I just wanna say:

patchworks look at the Windows Minesweeper included in Windows Lupus Project. I think that I have nothing to fear of, especially of Open-Sourcing Windows because that is not gonna happen - ever.
As for open source components again - look at the Minesweeper.

I don't need to prove anything to anyone: BTW (expecially in these unofficial sections) anyone seems to understand that customizing even old software could give good gladness back, so i'm a bit surprised that many alternatives are closed source !

The "problem" here at MSFN seems the MS prefix, i think... biggrin.gif

Someone with different mind already used stuff with a differend approach elsewhere. tongue.gif

BTW i hope to leave the Windows world soon, so i don't wanna be polemic nor annoying... just skip to read my posts.

Cool. Windows Lupus.

Are you guys updating all the themes and icons and such? With Vize or XPize quality ones?

Cool! Windows Lupus sounds cool! i downloaded it and am going to try it out soon!
marxo
I have to remind those that are installing WLP Alpha 1:

When installing, Windows will prompt you to restart. Click No. After the process is complete, you will be notified with a message like "Installation is complete."
Then restart your computer manually.

Latest version of browseui.dll working on 98 is 6.0.2800.1914.
PROBLEMCHYLD
Can a Win98SE Lupus version of these files be added because WinMe files cause breakage

EXPLORER.EXE 4.72.3612.1710
Systray.exe 4.10.0.2224
USER.EXE 4.10.0.2233
browseui.dll 6.0.2800.1917
COMDLG32.DLL 4.72.3510.2300
DOCPROP.DLL 5.0.1897.1
FONTEXT.DLL 4.10.0.1704
MYDOCS.DLL 4.72.3510.2300

I think I can use some of them but most of them are related to RP (and are patched by Tihiy or at least a bit modified) so the best man to tel you this is Tihiy.

I am working on Alpha 2 in the moment.

These icons are great, but they are far far away from the original ones, and I don't like importing custom icons.

The link contains imageres.dll without those icons in the image...so?? blink.gif

Because some newb tried to make it, and didn't do that well....
TheRedFox
is there like an uninstaller for this? i want to try it, but i don't know if i want to keep it.
computerwizkid
Sorry but no UNinstaller!
But if you install RP7 look at backup!!!
Use that folder and have it there when Windows Lupus is installed.
use rpuni and might work unsure.gif
Has not been tested though
any takers!!!

~Marxo~
When is alpha 2 going to be replaced and please include Uberskin instead of lameskin!!!!!

From UberSkin topic:
And yeah: NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANY REVOLUTIONS PACK VERSION. They simply can't communicate.

Since Windows Lupus is BASED on Revolutions Pack 7, there is no way to replace lameskin with UberSkin.
marxo
It's not dead, it was just asleep.

Did some work you can check here

and there is a new theme that I am making Codename: Asja and here is the preview:

Aloha
Marxo, can you make Asja theme for XP too? And can you make it more beautiful than the one you make for 98? Thanks in advance!

I was planing to do that after I finish the one for WLP.

Another thing. There is a whole new subforum on WPC for LameSkin themes.
Aloha
I did go there and read some posts there, Marxo. And because of these words, I hope you will make a more beautiful theme for XP.
QUOTE
Please don't make them for xp
I'll wait for your theme. It's something rather than black or blue, so I like it.
marxo
Someone likes having exclusive styles, the ones no one other made for other engines, but I think that XP style would be great alternative to those boring old Longhorn Aero-like wanna be styles.
Aloha
Well, people can easily made a theme for 98 from a theme for XP. So I think it's not fair if they don't want to share a 98 theme with XP. But, if you say so, then just make Asja the same for both; no need to make it more beautiful, Marxo.
specialbao1
every where xp has good themes.
I want that 9x series should be promoted.
marxo
That is exactly why I made a section for LS/US styles on WPC:

@Maxro

Is this project can able to run Nero without any problem like I'm experiencing with RP7.11?

thanks and regards
-cruzades
marxo
I haven't been experiencing any problems with Nero, however, please apply these settings if you encounter any bugs.
Please note: Compatibility mode is available only if KernelEx is installed.

marxo
Here is how an empty A2 screen now looks. Nothing specially new, I hope to write a full log of changes tomorrow.

cruzades
@marxo

yup, I've tried every single setting on compatibility option, but nothing is working.

well, even by default I can execute Nero up to its initial screen, but the time I'm going to click the Backup CD or Make Audio CD, nothing is appearing on my screen.

anyway, what Nero version are you using without any glitch.

Thanks and more power
