hey fernando,
i tryied following your instructions to the tee. i'm not very computer savvy, but thx to your very concise steps, i was able to make a bootable CD with these 3 files.

intel pnp system
intel TXT iaStor_ich8R hdc
intel TXT iaAHCI_ich9R hdc

Im building a cpu from scratch with an intel DX38BT Intel mainboard (would this mainboard contain JMicron ports??), (2) sata HD in Raid0, and (2)ATI hd2600 graphics cards(plan to set up in CrossFire). Anyways, I Placed the Raid0 array i've created in the first position... started up with the bootable CD i made with your instructions(PS i added SP2 as one file named WIN51IP.SP2 to the folder containing the clean OS files, is this ok?) when asked to press F6, I did not. everthing was going fine, I made partitions in the Raid, then when at the step "installing Windows" after initializing, and during installing devices a Stop Error Screen appeared: semi verbatim:

""""Prob detected and Win has been shut down to prevent damage.
IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL
if this is 1st time you've seen this stop error screen, restart, if this appears again, follow these steps:
check that any new hardward(hw) or software(sw) is properly installed.
if this is a new install, ask hw or sw manufacturer for any windows update you will need.
if problem still exists: disable or remove any newly installed hardware or sw. disable BIOS memory options like caching or shadowing. If you need safemode to remove/disable components, restart, then F8 for Advance startup options, select safe mode
tech info:

***Stop: 0x0000000A (0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x80523E78)
Dumping physical memory
Dumping complete.""""""""

What do I do??? Please help, i've been trying to do this for a month now. realmad.gif

No, besides the 6 Intel ICH9R channels your board has 2 eSATA ports controlled by Marvell Controllers.

No, if you want to add a Service Pack, you have to integrate the whole package. The WIN51IP.SP2 file is just 1 small file of the large SP2 package, which shows Windows setup, that the SP2 is integrated (should be in your case).

The reason for this BSOD is either a memory issue or a bad driver.
This is what I suggest:
1. Remove 1 of your ATI graphic cards and try to restart the installation (I have read about problems with 2 cards during the installation). Once the OS is running, you can restore the CrossFire configuration.
2. Disable all not needed hardware devices (for example the eSATA Controllers) within the BIOS.
3. Test you memory sticks with memtest. Remove 1 or 2 sticks, if you have more than 2 GB of memory.
4. If none of the previously mentioned options really helped and the OS installation still fails, you should create a new nLited CD by just integrating Service Pack 2 (the whole package) and the Intel textmode drivers and nothing else. Try to get XP installed by using this freshly created and burned CD.

1)What is BSOD?
2)What exactly do I need to disable in BIOS, and how? I browsed thru the BIOS and I don't see any eSATA Controller option.
3)What's memtest? and where can i download it? I have 2 GB in two sticks
4)Where can i download SP2? can you make me a link?
5)should i integrate sp2 and sp3???

Answers:
1) BSOD = "Blue screen of death"
2) Look into your mainboard manual.
3) Look here.
4) Look for the SP2 at Windows Update. You can download the english version of the Service Pack 2 for Windows XP (Home and Professional) here.
5) No, you can either integrate SP2 or the RC version of the upcoming SP3. As long as SP3 is not released, I would integrate SP2.

The driver packs you made yourself are also good for Vista right? Asus' site has older versions of these drivers and they seem to be xp/vista all-in-one so these should be no different unless I'm mistaken.

You can use the Intel textmode drivers of my prepared package for Vista too. The only thing to pay attention is, that Vista x86 needs the 32bit package whereas you have to take the 64bit one for Vista x64.

Hey Fernando,

I just wanted to say thanks for putting together that s-ata xp install guide.

I had some very fuzzy ideas about how to install xp onto a store bought
Gateway PC (which only officially supported vista) but had trouble finding
the details. Then I found your guide on MSFN.

I followed the instructions as closely as I could and used your driver pack.
I was still a little apprehensive about it working. My experience with these
sorts of procedures has conditioned me to expect the worst.

I was delighted to see that it worked on the first try smile.gif

Thanks again for saving me a lot of time and trouble.

I need some help from you please. I have a dell 1520 laptop that has ata turned on right now and the properties states that it is an ich8m. When I recieved the machine it was running vista with a AHCI Enabled. Since then I have turned AHCI off and installed xp Pro and vista. I have a hard drive and a blueray burner on it and would like to reenable AHCI. I downloaded the available textmode drivers from dell and used nlite to integrate them. It is not currently finding my drive when I turn ahci back on and when windows is loading I never get anything that says that it is trying to install any of the drivers that I am adding. Should the driver description show up on the bottom when they are loading? Also researching the slipstreaming I know that youa re supposed to put them in specific folders and edit boot scripts and stuff. Does Nlite do this stuff for me, and if so where do i look to confirm proper installation so that I can rule out hardware vs. software problems. Thanks

Why didn't you integrate the drivers I have recommended and linked within my guide? You should highlight just the Intel ® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M), when you see the textmode driver popup while preparing your nLited XP CD Image.
QUOTE

It probably did not find your hdd, because you loaded the wrong Intel textmode driver (SATA RAID instead of SATA AHCI).
QUOTE
Should the driver description show up on the bottom when they are loading?
Yes, you should see just for a moment, that the file IASTOR.SYS is being loaded during the first (=textmode) part of the OS installation. When you have integrated the correct Intel SATA AHCI driver for ICH8M chipsets, your hdd will be detected after having loaded all textmode drivers.
QUOTE

Everything is done by nLite automaticly. You can verify the proper installation of the hardware and the associated drivers by looking into the device manager after having completed the OS installation.
basics
I`ve been doing all the steps from your guide, but i keep getting some unusual problem . So i finished doing all the steps, but when i actually try to boot from the minidvd, the monitor is completly black and no progress can be made, just the cursor appear... any thoughts?
I now found that it doesn`t see it as a bootable dvd... i wonder why, since i did specify to be one

OK, problem solved. I selected from nlite direct burn, which was suppose to make the cd bootable but it didn`t. Then i just use Create ISO and after i burned the image, this one was bootable.

Thanks a lot rolleyes.gif

i had a similar problem abaut ich8 and by adding
; ICH8
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106
; ICH8
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel® 82801HB SATA AHCI Controller"

lines to iaahci.inf nearrly solved the problem. (a hugeeee step, thanks to you)

I am using Asus P5B (normal P5B :>) with 2 disks raid0 (jmicron) + 1 disk ich8.
when i was installing ahci to my sytem (2003 64 for personal use) i showed ich9 to system and everything worked fine.
(note: P5B has 2 chipsets, jmicron + ich8 )

BUT

when i try to use BartPE, problem began. BartPE easily see my jmicron raid0 disks and a friend's ich9r raid0 disks and another friend's ich9 ahci disk, no problem.
But when i enable ahci on my 3rd disk (ich8) , BartPE had no way to see the drive.

now by adding these lines you gave to iaahci.inf:
BartPE still start with not seeing 3rd drive, but now i can use "install new devices" program to make BartPE find the Ahci enabled 3rd drive. (i put it on startup, so BartPE now install 3rd disk with ahci drive but without drive letters on startup)

After that, i use paragon partition manager to assign drive letters.

Now i am looking for a program to assign unassigned drive letters automatically. rolleyes.gif
or do u know a way to reassign letters. (by restarting a program or service :> or by uninstalling and installing sth from xp.)

there seems to be 2 solutions for the problem:
1) from txtsetup.sif
or
2) automatic drive letter assignement

If you dont know anything about BartPe, a little introduction:
BartPe have very much similarities with Unattended XP, I first learned Unattended XP so i had no problems understanding BartPE.
BartPE creates a txtsetup.sif and put driver informations in it.
by making changes you mentioned before, i made a txtsetup.sif but it didnt work for me. (for solution 1)
http://rapidshare.de/files/38574653/txtsetup.sif.rar.html

for BartPE web site: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/

its my first message to msfn.org, :>, i learned unattended installation 4 years ago from here, and step by step now its the place i came. (i started to write instead of read :>) I wanted to give a good rescue cd to my country man that doesn't now english, everthing is ready except this small bug in BartPE. (when its ready, i will convert it to english :>)

thanks again for your help.

@ Lancelot Real:

I am sorry, that I cannot help you due to the lack of any experience with BartPE.
Furthermore I have no idea how to solve your drive letter problem.
All your difficulties probably have something to do with the fact, that the Intel ICH8 Controller (without R or M) natively doesn't support AHCI.

i am not sure if
Intel 82801HB ICH8
has native or non native support for ahci. As i write before, i know that i can enable ahci from bios.

You can use MOUNTVOL command.

This can be included in a batch file, if you use also vlm, part of the DSFOK toolkit here:
http://freezip.cjb.net/freeware
you can easily select the drive from it's label or Symbolic link.

just run:
MOUNTVOL >C:\Mountvol.txt

and

VLM >C:\vlm.txt

to see which output they produce, then read "between the lines" of this:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/usbstick_e.html
and get the good ol' mnt / unmount:
http://www.uwe-sieber.de/files/unmnt10.zip

If you search on the board, you should find a number of posts about batches using MOUNTVOL to determine drive letters.

thanks for help, i read a lot through the links you gave, but couldn't suceed from them.
after that i forced myself to make a search again, an attt last i find the program i need.
"Mount Storage PE" from
http://www.kare-net.de/Plugins.htm

here is a summary what i did in BartPE for google searchers:
BartPE not assigning drive letters problem solution:
(I found the solultion from my problem; BartPE not assigning ICH8 ahci enabled disk , i think it will work for assigning drive letter for usb flash and usb externals disks too)

1) i put ahci driver from intel v7.8.0.1012 to driver folder.
2) i added lines to iaahci.inf as Fernando 1 wrote before. here are them:

; ICH8
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106
; ICH8
%PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc% = iaStor_Inst, PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2824&CC_0106.DeviceDesc = "Intel® 82801HB SATA AHCI Controller"

3) i put hwpnp utility to BartPE (a plugin from Sherpya that searchs plug&play devices)
4) i put "Mount Storage PE"

5) i made a command file and put it on startup, here is what i wrote:
start /wait %SystemRoot%\system32\HWPnp.exe +all /log /p /d
start /wait %SystemRoot%\system32\MountStorPe.exe -h

6) I made a shortcut of this command line to bartpe in case of a need of pluging a new disk.

for regular users of assigning drive letter problems 3, 4, 5, 6th steps are enough. Step 1, 2 are solution for ICH8 82801HB.

Thanks to "Fernando 1" again, i coulnt solve this problem for 6 months (since i bought my new mainboard) and if "Fernando 1" didnt wrote down the ICH8 82801HB solution for unattended installation of Windows I still won't solve the problem. At last its solved. rolleyes.gif

ADD (20080709):
with better written adds to iaahci.inf and txtsetup.oem (2nd step improvement) 3, 4, 5, 6th steps are no needed anymore, i posted a copy here:

Thanks ! grrrrr8 guide, but I have an old Gigabyte GA-8Ik1100(Rev2) motherboard with "ICH5R" 'INTEL® 82801ER SATA RAID CONTROLLER',well, uptill now,I have been installing the Sata drivers via 'F6' method during installation of windows. But now lately the 'Floppy Drive' gave up on me and its not possible to get the sata drivers installed by this method,so I thought it wud be grrrr8 to slipstream them into the installation Cd.
Well, now, all the files in download links provided by you and Intel 'Matrix Storage Driver' do not seem to include support for 'ICH5R',it all support for ICH6 and upwards. How and where,I can get 'Iastor' files supporting ICH5R.
However,I have even tried to extract them from the installation Disc provided with my Motherboard, but they only get extracted to a 'floppy' drive, which,I can't do.
Plz help me with this and either provide the Sata Raid drivers for ICH5R 'INTEL® 82801ER SATA RAID CONTROLLER' in extracted file or give me a link from where to download.

Secondly, guide me also how to extract the network LAN and Intel infinst_auto too chipset drivers ? Although I have tried, but after ectraction 'nlite' doesn't seem to detect them.

In Bios, you can change your sata disk mode from ahci to ide (or compatible) before installing windows, so you wont need nlite or diskette. (for sata disk problem (in fact ahci enabled sata disk problem) i prefer this way). If u use raid and dont have diskette, you have to use nlite method. thumbup.gif

2)
network LAN should be easy, use the regular way to add your network LAN driver.
chipset drivers; "Fernando 1" may have better way than My method of addin chipset drivers, wait for his answer.

You are right - the recent INTEL Matrix Storage Manager package doesn't support ICH5R SATA RAID Controllers. To help future users with such RAID Controllers I have added a new download link to the already extracted "newest" ICH5R SATA RAID drivers dated 10/12/2005.

You obviously got them already installed.

Thanks for your request and thanks to Lancelot_Real for his help!

By the way: It would be no problem for me to add the HardwareID's of the INTEL ICH5R SATA RAID Controllers into the newest Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers packages, but by doing this the drivers would loose their WHQL stamps for all users. That is why I have uploaded the original WHQL signed ICH5R RAID drivers separately.

Hey ! welcome.gif
Thanks m8 for the reply and updating the first post and download links, which now include a complete range for Intel Sata raid drivers package, now you don't have to search for the required driver anywhere else.it had certainly made the job easy thumbup.gif

Well,as an info,I wud ask for your advise,if it'll be advisable to integrate all the Intel Sata raid drivers in the winxp source,so that, when ever you replace your motherboard, you don't have to integrate the specified driver again. I ask as I'm going to update my system soon. Infact, wud it be possible for you to build a package of all the Sata raid drivers for all the raid controllers like Promise,Gigabyte,Intel.....etc..etc,and integrate once for all.

Hey ! welcome.gif
Thanks m8 for the reply and updating the first post and download links, which now include a complete range for Intel Sata raid drivers package, now you don't have to search for the required driver anywhere else.it had certainly made the job easy thumbup.gif
It makes me happy, when I can help others.

QUOTE
Well,as an info,I wud ask for your advise,if it'll be advisable to integrate all the Intel Sata raid drivers in the winxp source,so that, when ever you replace your motherboard, you don't have to integrate the specified driver again. I ask as I'm going to update my system soon.
This should be no problem at all (unless you change from a 32bit OS to a 64bit OS), because all actual Intel S-ATA Controllers are using exactly the same driver named IASTOR.SYS and the same information files. All you have to do is enabling all Controllers during the Intel textmode driver integration.

QUOTE
Infact, wud it be possible for you to build a package of all the Sata raid drivers for all the raid controllers like Promise, Gigabyte, Intel.....etc..etc, and integrate once for all.
It would be possible, but I wouldn't do that.
Reason: Users want the newest/best drivers and a small sized OS CD. Both things are not possible by creating and integrating an AIO textmode driver package.
1. It would take a lot of time to search and to collect the actual textmode drivers of all storage controller chips, that ever have been manufactured. As soon as you have them all together, you have to start again from scratch, because there are already new ones out.
2. An AIO textmode driver package would have a big size, which has to be integrated into the OS CD/DVD, although each user will only need just 1 single driver of this big package.

Have a nice day too!

Is it possible to integrate both NVIDIA and Intel Raid drivers into a CD? My gut feeling is that it is, but I want to check first.

Also, would there be any additional special steps required beyond following the above-mentioned SATA RAID guides?

@ all owners of a computer with an Intel S-ATA or Raid system:

Today I read your article on the forum for the first time. I envy your knowledge, and thanks for the good info. thumbup.gif I have a Fujitsu, with frik-fraking VISTA mad.gif on it, and want to install XP Pro; 1st as a 2nd OS, and if that's successful, I'll just totally remove VISTA. I have Intel ICH7 SATA requirements on the Fujitsu, and I think I'm ready to attempt nLite modification of my Factory XP SP1 Installation CD. I have a question about the modified CD. After the new Installation CD is modified to include:
1) the SATA Drivers
2) SP2
3) some other drivers, which are too new for the XP SP1 CD to contain
4) my personalized features/components of Windows...,
is that finished CD still good on other computers with any non-SATA driver requirements?

Another question (well, 4 more actually)...
During nLite useage, why do we sometimes use "PnP" Drivers, and other times use "Textmode" Drivers? Aren't ALL devices now-a-days PnP?. Which leads to another question -- when, during the XP Installation process, are "Textmode" drivers installed, and when are "PnP" drivers installed? How do we, as End-Users modifying Installation CD's, make the determination of which type of drivers are required?

thanx, guinea

Normally yes, it depends on the exact hardware configuration.

QUOTE

No, only the "normal" device drivers (for graphics or Ethernet adapters, chipset devices, printers, scanners etc) are/should be PnP drivers. Textmode drivers are necessary for the detection of so-called "Mass Storage Device Controllers" (special S-ATA or RAID Controllers, where the hdd's are connected). Contrary to Vista the older OS Windows XP doesn't have in-box drivers, which are able to detect your Intel ICH7R or ICH7M S-ATA AHCI Controller. That is the reason, why you have to integrate or load the special Intel textmode drivers.

QUOTE
when, during the XP Installation process, are "Textmode" drivers installed, and when are "PnP" drivers installed?
The textmode drivers are needed for the detection of the hard disk drives and their partitions at the beginning of the installation process (just after loading the first files during the TEXTMODE phase), whereas all other (PnP) drivers are not needed until the hardware detection part of the OS installation (after the first reboot = during the GUIMODE part of the install).

QUOTE
How do we, as End-Users modifying Installation CD's, make the determination of which type of drivers are required?
Textmode drivers for all pre-Vista Operating Windows Systems have a file named TXTSETUP.OEM, whereas PnP drivers just have one or more INF files (files with the extension ".INF").

Sorry 'bout the funny characters in my 1st post on this site (or any site!). I'm even having trouble gettin' back to my own post!
In response to your 4th answer -- QUOTE: Textmode drivers for all pre-Vista Operating Windows Systems have a file named TXTSETUP.OEM, whereas PnP drivers just have one or more INF files (files with the extension ".INF" UNQUOTE -- I guess my original question needs elaborating. When a driver package is downloaded from the Web, as with the Intel 945 Express Chipset, an installation utility can "install" the drivers, if the drive is under the umbrella of a working OS. But one can ALSO download the floppy drive to use during the OS installation process by pressing F6. And the 3rd (unmentioned) is the installation of the drivers with inf files. In the case where a new drive is installed on a computer, and only one drive is present, one must install with either a floppy drive (the floppy drive image which was downloaded) or by slipstreaming (the TxtSetup.oem file from the Floppy drive, and its associated files). [Correct me if wrong.] Lets assume that all worked fine, and XP is now installed successfully. When the system now boots, in normal day-to-day activity, how is the drive recognized? Does it need the same txtSetup.oem file to do the whole process again? Or are there lower-level files which conduct the communication to the SATA Host Controller?

And again... how do we, as end users, know which route to choose, when integrating drivers into an Installation CD? When given a choice of slipstremaing INF files and associated SYS files, or slipstreaming txtsetup.oem files, INF files win, HANDS DOWN! (use nLite). But how do I know that an INF file is going to do the job? How do I know that I DON'T need to dig further into the Web, to find a Floppy Drive image with txtsetup.oem. Does your response to my question 3 mean that ALL SATA Mass Storage Controllers might need txtsetup.oem / floppy, but never INF files during OS installation? And txtsetup.oem files are never (never is such a harsh word) required for sound boards/nics/scanners/ and the like? If so, I'm finally starting to understand. wacko.gif

thanks again.

No, the TXTSETUP.OEM file is only needed for the installation process of the Operating System. Once the OS is up, it has all needed drivers (= SYS files) integrated and present within the WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS folder.

When you want to get an OS installed onto a hdd, which is connected to an unknown Mass Storage Device Controller (no suitable driver present within the OS installation media, neither natively nor slipstreamed), you need to preload the textmode driver within the first (=TEXTMODE) part of the installation. During this step only the driver itself (the SYS file) and the associated TXTSETUP.OEM file (giving the needed informations about the Controller and how to "speak" with him) are needed. But during the GUIMODE part of the installation, when the hardware devices are detected and "installed", the OS Setup needs at least additionally one INF file to get the Mass Storage Controller proper installed.
So at least the installation of Mass Storage Controllers and its driver is running within 2 steps (first needs the TXTSETUP.OEM, second needs an INF file), whereas all other devices are installed in just 1 step (during the GUIMODE part) and only need an INF file to get proper installed.

You obviously did understand it the correct way.

did what u described and shuved everything up in the cd(all the drives) just to make sure, al all i got was a black screen after the press any key to start the setup... after 4 cd tries i got it to load in windows(using the mkisofs system at iso creation stage... great). it still gives me the black screen on dos, and doesnt solve anything.

its curious how there are many people with this problem around teh forum, but no real post on it...
any direction on this would be fine, i did exactly what u described and ONLY that, no nothing extra in the way.
then i reboot, enable ahci and it loads the cd... pres key, etc.... the blakc screen! weird...

also i know that everything in the pc is fine, actually the reason why ii want sata-mode on is because i can use it on gentoo(linux) so, instead of turning it off when i need to use windows, ti would be good if i could run windows with the sata enabled...

thank for ANY response this really is becoming a dead end for me. ph34r.gif
edit: im using v1.4.5 beta 2 btw...

I doubt, that your problem has anything to do with the integration of the Intel S-ATA AHCI driver.
As all other users you will be able to get the OS installed with enabled AHCI mode Intel S-ATA Controllers.

Questions:
1. Which mainboard do you use?
2. Are you sure, that your S-ATA hdd is connected to an Intel S-ATA port?
3. Is your optical drive (CD/DVD-ROM) ok? Are you able to boot off the original (not nLited) OS CD?
If yes, try to load the Intel textmode driver by F6/floppy.
If you succeed this way, you should create a new nLited CD, where you did only integrate the Intel textmode driver and nothing else.

im not sure u get it, it boots fine, asks me to press any key, then says loading blabla(no blue screen yet) then all i see is a black screen with nothing written on it for ever...
also, im on a laptop(compal fl90) and yes all ym hardware is fine.
im gonna try the solution with just text mode drivers, and its obviously something with the cd since it didnt work at all, then i switched the way the iso was recorded and now it loads in windows, now lets see if with textmode only it loads in dos.

If you don't even come to the point where your hdd is detected (or not), you obviously have a problem with your nLited CD.
You can verify it, if you try to boot off the original XP CD.

Hi, I am having problems with this exact thing. I have an HP PAvillion a6077c TV PC andI have been trying this over and over and when it pulls up the destination to install XP it shows two drives (C and D), but it says they are both 130gb when really they are 190 and 170....last time I tried installing on the D I had to use recovery discs to bring my computer back up. Any advice?

Maybe the XP Setup just "sees" 130 GB, but will be able to use the whole space.
It should not be a problem to get XP installed onto your computer. Look here.

I have tried installing onto the shown drives that are 130 and all it does is mess everything up. I have to use recovery discs to get back to where I am. As far as the site you gave me...I found that before I ever came to this site. I am stuck and I am not sure why. It seems others with my system have done it, but I just cant seem to get it.

Everyone with a suitable Intel S-ATA Controller is able to get XP installed. You must have done something wrong.
If you don't want to have any stress, you should just go into the BIOS and set the S-ATA Controllers, where yor hdd is connected, to "IDE mode".
Then you will be able to get XP installed without loading/integrating any separate textmode drivers.

If you want to continue to get XP installed by using the AHCI features of your on-board S-ATA Controllers, you should try it again from scratch: Backup your datas and format your hdd with NTFS system.
Furthermore you should give some more informations about your hardware, for example the number and sorts of hdd's.

Hello. I'm using Asus P4B-M motherboard with initio (INIC-162x SATA) controllers.
I integrated XP sp3, original SP2, Text mode drivers using nLite version 1.4.5

Everything looked fined. I can enter the windows installation, I can detect my SATA drive, and the installation process had already copied files to my disk, and ask me to reboot.

The strange things happened here: After reboot, windows screen appeared (with that status bar), but after about 10 seconds, blue screen appeared and showed error code 0x0000007b. I search the net and find that this error may be due to wrong SATA drivers. My question is how this could happened since my computer already recognized the drive? or should I include both PNP and TXT mode driver?

Many thanks!

If your S-ATA drives are connected to these controllers, you have to integrate the INIC-162x S-ATA drivers.

You certainly mean, that you have integrated SP3 into an XP SP2 CD, don't you? It wouldn't make any sense to integrate SP2 and SP3.

No, you only should integrate the correct S-ATA drivers (from the Controller manufacturer, where your hdd's are connected) as TEXTMODE drivers.

Hi

I didn't see this guide and just ran through the process myself. It seems to be working okay, but now I have a question:

From the guide, Part (2) : Step (4)

QUOTE
When you come up to the task "Drivers", hit the "Insert" button, use the "Single driver" option and point to the content of the driver package you have downloaded and extracted at first step. Click onto one of the shown INF files (it doesn't matter which one).

Judging by the fact that it says it doesn't matter which INF file is clicked on when via the "Single driver" option, I'm guessing it also doesn't matter if one clicked on "Mulitiple driver folder" option instead rather than "single dirver"?

After I had extracted the drivers and found there were two INF files, I guessed that the folder option was more appropriate. On the next screen, just selected the two relevant controllers from the list of 10 or so.

Seems to have worked, so is the proper way to select "single" next time?

Nice guide even tho its an old post I will raise some points.

Intel controller in raid mode does not need a raid array and intel actually reccomend this for single drive configs as well as raid since its the same as ahci except it will support future raid use without an OS reinstall.

I added my intel drivers on my new sp3 cd and I notice nlite is telling me I should disable the use of OEM Preinstall $OEM$ folder which I have always been using fine in the past and I dont remember nlite having this warning before, is there a known real problem by integrating text drivers at the same time as using OEM preinstall? --edit-- I misunderstood it says not to use it when using f6 method, I wonder if thats the problem the other poster had then.
