This looks brutal but: are you using 32-bit image palette on your PC? If you are then (If you are using 24-bit/16-bit then most of the graphic errors are related to that fact):

#1 Appears in explorer because BROWSEUI.DLL images aren't made well.

#2 Might be that the resource hasn't been patched well or the icons aren't compressed well.

#3 This is a skin problem related to TClock i think...

#4 Damian and I have already discussed this sysdm.cpl and I hope that he will take my advice and accept me to make a nice sysdm.cpl for him as I did for the NT4 Visual Update Project

#5 Two minutes and ResHacker can solve this... Just a pixel of difference...

#6 The problem is that Vista isn't using those bitmaps anymore so there isn't a proper Vista replacement for this bitmap.. It can be discarded, and maybe it should be replaced with and icon or removed.

#7 I am not really sure if it is suppose to be animated, but in any case I would replace it with a Windows Flag...

#8 This is also a problem related to the skinning engine that is used, or the msstyle, since it isn't made to work with four buttons...

What bothers me is that the font is bold in the style, and the sysdm is ugly imho, I don't know why everyone are doing that (when modding) to thier sysdm.
damian666
Well bruce, and marxo, i can only say ouch...
that is a long list man...
i didnt say it was perfect man.
its a work in process.

Marxo, as i said before, suprise me with a nice sysdm.
and we will see what the users say about it.
i will use a poll to see what they want.

#1 is not in the browseui, as far as i know. looks more like comctl, i am looking in to that.
i had that report earlyer, but i cant find the f***...

#2 will check those icons.

#3 allready fixed.

#4 sydm, yeah i know... sad.gif

#5 that sometimes happens, i dont know what to do about it, any ideas?

#6 will check it out, at least that speaker graphic is wrong, it should be patched...

#7 sorry man, but for me that icon is animated... about the color, mabe thats better yes...

#8 skin not made for 4 buttons, anyone know how to?

Thanx for the bugreports, i like it..., after i swallowed it down smile.gif

I used 32-bit color.

I did not use the 3rd party utilities like TClock from the pack. Just skin & icons.

This 'error' I actually don't mind since it blends in very well. It does not jut out or anything.

#7 sorry man, but for me that icon is animated... about the color, mabe thats better yes...

Its not working for me. I'll try it on a fresh SP2 and SP3 RC1 to see if there's a difference.
damian666
ok man, let me know if that fixes it.
the pack is not tested on sp3, because i cant get my hands on a dutch sp3 yet.
its not made by m$ so i have to wait, till then , not supported...
chillinfart
This version is too much clean than 1.x versions that i tested on my win2000 machine, but i have a little problem with it.

In my root account i don't have almost any issue now even under 16 bit color mode(incorrect colors appears on save/open windows) but another account that i created for my brother has "invisible icons" in desktop since 1.6 version(now some icons can be "viewed" with a disturbing transparency).
damian666
well, i have never saw that, but maybe its because rpl2k is only installed for your account?
try it, go to the pack dir in programfiles, and there enter the extras directory.
go to rpl2k and install it again, please note that you have to switch the option for
the toolbar update !!!!OFF!!!
when done reboot, and let me kno ok?

damian666
Squeeto
A couple other little things for the XP version:
some banners in msgina.dll read 2000

timedate.cpl 1.res isn't used yet for English

xpsp3res.dll\XPNETDIAG.GIF.GIF should be XPNETDIAG.GIF
damian666
ok, cool squeeto, thanx for the report dude.
and how are you dude? welcome.gif

damian666
damian666
i am uploading new version now, see in a hour or so for the updated first post.

damian666
mara-
Hi damian666,

I just downloaded the new version and I must tell that it looks great. But I found few bugs on very begin:

#1. rebuilder and vistapack patcher always complain about sysdm.cpl. When I opened Reload-log.txt, I found this:

CODE
Patching File: sysdm.cpl
Executing Reshacker
File not found
Reshacker script error

I also opened log of VistaPack patcher (log.txt) and I found same error.

#2. File Open Dialog in same cases still not patched (reported here) and in case when it is, there is problem with transparency with Back button (reported here).
damian666
well, i have been busy with that file open dialog, but i cant seem to get it right.
i think i have to get rid of it sad.gif

now i found it, it tries to patch the 115 dialog, but i only have it in dutch...

go to the resources \sysdm folder and open the apropriate txt file.
delete the last two lines.
run reloader, that should do it.

damian666

P.S. else you could post the reshacker log for me, that way i can see whats wrong, just copy paste it here the sysdm log
damian666
or you could try to translate it for me smile.gif
then post it here, and people can use that dialog to replace the ones they have.
if you want to, just open 115.res with reshacker.
i cant compile the new version on my work, so i have to wait till wednesday to fix it myself for you guys.
sorry for that.

or post the sysdm you have so i can do it myself, but only at home

let me know what you want to do, mara.

damian666

and here is 115.res translated to English:

Also I found one more bug. I used your option Remove logoff text and after I rebooted, Rebuilder complained about explorer.exe, then it did a rebuild and it restored text to start menu buttons. Also bug reported here still exist (third picture), and this one here (first picture).

Cheers newwink.gif

EDIT: Can you tell me in which file is located this Back button of File Open Dialog? I just want to try something.

EDIT2: One more bug:

mara-
OK, I think I done something with this Back button, tell me what you think. Here is the screen shot (only back button replaced in dialog):

If you like it, I'll be glad to upload the recourse.

Also I noticed that you done some changes to sysdm.cpl (I applied changes manually) and I sow that you inserted "Windows Experience" picture in advanced tab. My suggestion is that you insert in all tabs this picture. I tried to do this for myself, but it seems that rest of the tabs are not located in this file.

I suppose you are holding out on this because of the display error?
damian666
ok guys, i tried to get the bug out, the resource fix is on the first page.
instructions are included.

mara, yes i want that resource very badly...
i cant get it right for some reason.

the other "bugs" are noted and i will try to fix them for the next version.

btw, logoff text remover only works after you have rebooted after the patch process.

welcome.gif

damian666

p.s. anotherr bug found but this is on 2000, reloader i f***ed...
see first post for updated patcher.

this is the last time i work on this when i am sick man sad.gif
i make to many mistakes when sick...
mara-
Here it is, I did not use the transparency, I found the best color that fits to the dialog. I'm uploading you .bmp files.

QUOTE

I know this, but when I do that, Reloader put text back on buttons.

And if you ever need some resource translated to English, just post here or PM me.

Cheers newwink.gif
damian666
thanx mara, i will do that...
nice bmp's, much better looking the the ones i made, cheers.
and about the logofftext remover, i didnt encounter that myself, but i will try to fix it man.
but what could cause the reloader to kick in?
weird...

i will investigate it dude.

damian666
mara-
Hey damian,

There is an error in path of your installer for resource fix:

CODE
C:\Program Files\Vitapack XP

instead of
CODE
C:\Program Files\Vistapack XP

Also, this clock looks great, but it has few bugs. There is double needle for seconds (one is static and other is moving), and when I click to some other tab, on Time Zone for example and then I return to Time & Date, needles for minute and hour disappears.

BTW, did you changed anything related to Boot Screen, because with v2.1 when I patched my XP CD, boot screen was changed, but with this version boot screen does not get changed.

Also take a look on this picture:

And, I hope you don't mind for so much bug reports or for so much suggestions. I know that in past few days I wrote pretty much posts here.

Cheers newwink.gif
damian666
hi mara, no ofcourse i dont mind your help in any way...
sure, much bugreports are not nice to see, but it arent all bugs, some things i just didnt do yet, or have trouble with...

and spelling fault for the fix huh?!!!
now thats a stupid bug smile.gif

so people, just cut and past the contents of "vitapack xp" to the "vistapack xp" folder and you are good to go...

and the clock, well it is just a little tryout, and as you say, it is not flawless...
but it looks better then it was huh?!
but if you dont like it, i can always take it out again.
because i dont think it can be done better then that...

and automatic update is something that resists modding man.
when it finds out it is modded, it will dl itself agian.
thus getting in a endless loop with the reloader...

so sorry, but i dont know how to do it man.

and no i didnt change anything in the bootscreen, but sometimes the xp setup takes the bootscreen out of the sp2 cab instead of the cd itself, thus using a non patched one.

check the reshacker log in the i386 log dir please...
mara-
I checked the log, everything seems fine. And yes clock looks cool, in my opinion you can leave it, who know, maybe in future you find better solution. And this thing with security center: It seems that this icon is replaced when system is patched, but picture that I showed you is from system where I patched the XP CD and then installed it. Maybe you can check it out when you have time.

Cheers newwink.gif

EDIT: You were right, I checked the XP CD files (wuaucpl.cpl) and it is patched, but when I installed Windows it seems that got reverted.

BTW, do you know where icons of FIle Open dialog are located? I mean on those, which appears when you use Paint for example to open file.
Squeeto
About fix for the clock.
Maybe mod 10.bmp to be an alpha bitmap with the center transparent. Hopefully then the refreshes won't stick to the pic.
I wish I had time to help but I am heading to the mainland for 4-5 days.

Also, I was thinking that comctl32.dll, 130 and 131.bmps had originally a background of 192,192,192 and this shows transparent. Maybe this color could be used for the new bitmaps background as well.

mara-
Hey damian,

I just figured that bug reported here (third picture) is related to your Vistapack black theme, the basic one is not affected.

Cheers newwink.gif
damian666
bug in the visual style huh, well...
know how to make a visual style?
i dont really, i am glad i got it like that.
btw, its not mine to begin with, i just modded it, and added a basic scheme to it.
so, maybe, maybe not man.

@squeeto, or anyone else, how the hell do i make the bmp transparent without using the magic pink color?
and i will try the color code you suggested ok?

you want to know where the icons are that look like xp ones in the fileopen dialog huh...
well, i dont know, else i had patched them right blushing.gif
so please let me know if you find them, all i know is that some programs have their own resources for that, like office does...

and that windows update is a real pesky one man.
it wont change, just for a sec, and then it will re download itself again...
its a crc check i think...

well thanx again man...

damian666

QUOTE

It doesn't work anyway. See pic.
I made a very crude 32bit bmp with the center transparent. It still displays improperly.

Damian, google "32bit bmp" to get a better idea but simply it is a .bmp with the alpha channel.

damian666
hi squeeto, thanx for the try man, i tried it myself too, but i came to the same conclusion, it looks like s***!!
well, nice try man...

@mara, i found out where to find those xp like icons on the fileopen dialog.
they are stored in the winsxs folder in a folder with controls in the name...

but when i tried to patch it, my pc would not go past the logonscreen..
so i think we should lt it go...

try it if you like, maybe i did something wrong. smile.gif

damian666
mara-
I tried to replace and I done it. Here are the results:

I tested in virtual machine and Windows in that machine has Windows File Protection disabled. Maybe that is problem, or maybe not. Maybe you should try again.

Ok, try this for system32\comctl32.dll.
damian666
hi guys, thanx for the help.
@mara, i think i f***ed it up or something, but tell me this, which of the 2 did you patch? i have 2 folders in there so...
I will credit you for the help you give man.

and squeeto, i got them man, the arrow is much better on this one , thank you man.
i would credit you, but you are allready in there dude!! from the beginning biggrin.gif

i have created a winntbbu for the cd patcher, nice setupscreen .

I have encountered two bugs related to this in Windows 2000 pack:

- wuacpl.cpl
The icon isnīt patches
The wuaucpl.cpl.txt show this:
[COMMANDS]
-modify "Resources\wuaucpl.cpl\102.ico", ICONGROUP, 102,

but this icon number and ICONGROUP donīt exist in wuaucpl.cpl.The ICON resouce is 1 to 33,and the ICONGROUP is 1 to 5.And in DIR Resources\wuaucpl.cpl only include only 1 icon and this is a generic icon not related to Automatic windows update Vista icons.I dowloaded the Windows XP pack and the wuaucpl.cpl.txt is OK but not the icons 1 and 4.I copied wuaucpl.cpl.txt from XP to 2000 pack and file are patches OK.

-wuauclt.exe
The icon isnīt patches
The wuauclt.exe.txt show this:
[COMMANDS]

I have two folders too, and I patched both files without any problems. I used your bitmaps from Vistapack v2.1 and I just replaced it with Resource Hacker. Well,Iīve patched my system and Iīm looking for posible problem or error on patching or in reshacker command,or posible error or differens in icons.I have encountered a few.For example, there are some system files that have only two icons in the same resorce, with the same resolution(16 or 256 or 32 bit) with diferent format(48x48-32x32,48x48-16x16,32x32-16x16,....)and the icon patch have 3 iconīs but with DIFFERENT resolutions(16,256 and 32 bit) in the same format(48x48 or 32x32 or 16x16).When patching the file some resolutions and format disaparens. An example:

ORIGINAL acctres.dll:
Resource ICONGROUP 100(the language isnīt importand at this time)
32 x 32 (16 colors) - Ordinal name: 1
16 x 16 (16 colors) - Ordinal name: 2

ICON File 100.ico in DIR acctres.dll to pacth the system:
32x32 16 colours - ordinal 1
32x32 256 colours - ordinal 2
32x32 32 bit colour - ordinal 3

System file acctres.dll after pacth:
32 x 32 (16 colors) - Ordinal name: 1
32 x 32 (256 colors) - Ordinal name: 2
32 x 32 (16.8mil colors) - Ordinal name: 9

Can you see the differences? The original 16 x 16 (16 colors) - Ordinal name: 2 is ERASED and changed for 32 x 32 (256 colors) - Ordinal name: 2 that is differents in format(32x32) and in colours(256).This is not a problem for the system? The 100.ico file donīt have to have the same ico that is replaced in the same format?

And sorry for my English,Iīm from Spain and I donīt know if you can understand me.
damian666
hi josh, i understand man, youre not the only one from spain i have here biggrin.gif

I understand.OK.Well,I have encountered a few error patching system, and files(icons) that are missing or corrupt. When I finished I tell you.
A question.Windows 2000 can use 24x24 pixel icon and bigest than 48x48,(64x64,96x96,....)?
and, all 32 bit icon have a very noticiable black shadow, very black. There is any form to do this less black?
Squeeto
Just wondering if anyone found where these are?
damian666
@josh, it should be fixed by the rpl2k installment, which is done automaticly.
not for you?

@squeeto, try mmsys.cpl or soundrecorder or volume control.
its the mmsys i think.

but i cant remember it all man biggrin.gif

VP 2.2 for XP is missing icons for mmsys.cpl - 4380 and 4381

I checked and vers 2.1 lacked these files as well. I pulled the icons from an even earlier version of VistaPack.

The mmsys.cpl.txt file does include the references though:

Mine was like that, but it fixed itself somehow. Try toggling the Remove/Restore Logoff Text in Options.
