The purpose of this thread is to collect the download locations for the latest KB905474 update that Windows Update wants you to have and to display them here.

If your language isn't shown, simply let Windows Update install the update. Then search for "KB905474" inside WindowsUpdate.log (in the WINDOWS folder) and post the link in this thread.

If you let Windows Update install KB905474, you can find it in WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download without the long GUID, so you don't need to download it again. Just copy it into the HF folder.

Note: This update is only supported with HFSLIP 1.7.1 or newer.

Sorry, but why on earth would one want to have the "Genuine advantage" crap installed????
I just uncheck the box and select "never inform me of this update again" (or similar)

Because I think it's a Windows essential / critical update (at least it shows up in WU disguised that way ) and it's required to validate some other downloads from M$ website.

The genuine check that you download from windows update is different.

I don't have the genuine advantage crap installed and i can still dload from windows update and/or M$ download center, because it uses a plugin to verify if your windows is genuine. The wgatray & wgalogon junk has nothing to do with that.

That update is not supported by HFSLIP in exe format.

I guess ESN means "Español Neutral" (Neutral spanish)

I don't know if this thread is still that important. I'll probably keep it alive, but you should know that MS have finally updated the "standalone" installer to include the binaries from April 2007. I tested it on a Dutch Windows XP and Windows Update accepts it.

Well, I'm finally back after a long hiatus. Is it better to use the standalone installer as listed on your update page or the file off Windows Update as seen here?

I don't know. This thread was started because the standalone installer was offering the binaries from February 2007 while Windows Update wanted the ones from April 2007. But MS have now finally updated the standalone installer and this one is working fine (tested with English and Dutch sources), so it's your choice I guess.

The only thing I find strange is that the English non-standalone installer didn't work on a Dutch source. The binaries in the updated standalone installer are English, so how come these work on a Dutch source while those in the non-standalone don't?

I tested today latest HFSLIP including all updates except KB905474 on a Dutch Windows XP SP2 cd. I do get the notice. However I cannot find dutch version of the standalone hotfix. I have extracted the path to the hotfix from the windowsupdate.log:

The difference is the WGATray.exe program. Normally you don't see it, but if your Windows is not 'genuine' you get to see some warning messages I prefer them to be in the native language

Please open C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.log and search for the LAST occurance of "KB905474"; I think you copied the link of the FIRST occurance. I'll update the info on the HFSLIP site to make that clear.
