Yea, that is a good site. I do not live in Austrailia, but took a look. Lots of up-to-the-minute reports.

Dont touch sat with a barge pole. or.. maybe in your case a digerydoo tongue.gif

If you can get cable, id recommend that. ADSL can be unreliable, more expensive, slower, and give worse pings when online gaming than cable does.

Reliability of DSL or cable depends on the provider.

I have cable Internet and I have about 98% uptime with fast downloads, while DSL here have 99.5% uptime, but slower downloads.

Other Canadian cable providers (Rogers, not to name them) offer a very bad cable service. Transfers are slow, service is often down.

It really depends on who gives the service.

Before signing up with an ISP, try to read some reviews about them, or talk to some of their (ex-)customers to know how they are like.

I suggest you read the Whirlpool discussion forums for reviews/opinions of the various ISPs. My advice to you is that if you think that you are likely to exceed the download limits of your plan then choose an ISP that uses shaped connections or an ISP with unlimited downloads/uploads.

If possible don't sign a long-term contract (>3 month) and check the disconnection costs in case you decide to switch ISPs.

Also buy your own DSL modem. This is likely to be cheaper and you have greater choice. Do not buy a DSL modem that plugs into your USB port, purchase a proper modem/router with a built-in network switch such as the D-Link DSL-504
