IDK really, but i think that there was a maxthon bug a bit ago....

Ugh....come on. I bet it cant view any pages. Opera's engine was only ok until version 8...just use firefox 3, or somehow get KernelEX to support Safari 3...

XPRAIDER also works with UBERSKIN

There are some problems with some websites, but I also had one site working better than intended (support 'forum' which needed registration to show solutions, but on Opera 6, solutions where visible below the page)

Most pages work fine, some need to switch to user mode (especially MSDN), but I got later Opera versions steady for those conditions. Opera 9.50 was a mess again, 9.51 seems to work better, but all 7+ are quite a bit resource consuming, in my opinion. Still hoping for some better 'Mozilla control'.

XPRaider.exe is smooth with new Uberskin and uses low resources too!

Bugreport:

Installshield wizard in Farcry game seems to be incompatible with uberskin. i try to test it with latest version.

Symptoms:
Setup32.exe and associated tasks freezed when i reached phase where i choose components to be installed.

After i uninstalled uberskin the installation process worked correctly.

Bug confirmed in version 8.2.5. For additional information just ask. what is also strange that "installshield" app was running twice, while one was invisible or putted under first...

Hi, it's me again,

I've uploaded a more elaborate version of my WinXP icon pack, to match the
Windows XP theme:

I even wrote a program to scan for registry keys which are used by Windows
to store icon locations. This resulted in so many icons, I got frustrated finding
them all in the XP libraries.

Maybe someone out there is kind enough to run the scanner on a
Windows XP machine, so I can make the pack even more complete.

Just execute the program and post the resulting C:\SystemIcons.reg. I hope it doesn't
crash on XP, but it only reads the registry, nothing is changed. It's very basic, wait
until you see "Ready" on the statusbar in the bottom of the window.

tihiy, the farcry is behaving very bad - it causes a BSOD when i close the game, but this happens when uberskin is not present.

on my system but here is my spec:

Intel Pentium III-S 1.266@1482Mhz
1,5 gb ram
Ati Radeon x850xt (works fine with radeon 9800 or 9600)

with it i can run at full details (ultra high).

This thread should be stickied under Important Topics. A sub-thread of Uberskin compatible themes would also be nice.

tihyi, with uberskin i have found cracked "login" sound. that means that there are some trouble in memory. i cannot specify it more. it is just same symptom that i have with wrong memory configuration. can you check it for any memory leaks?

That means only that hardware is not prioritized enough to handle a lot of "async" i/o (because skin loads asynchronously). I'll make a flag to load it synchronously.

Next version is delayed due to a serious difficulties with Groupwise bug.

Creative soundblaster Live... if it is used by waveout it is the reason, even when i use WDM drivers (very sucessfully). it can barely handle async. i know that from other devices (as some harddiscs)

Get your drives out of PIO mode, the soundcard drivers have zero to do with it.

i did it just yesterday disks were runninng correctly - two of them are hi-end SCSI drives. IDE disks were running in UDMA modes, but DVD rom was unable to get out PIO mode. i bought newer one which runs UDMA66 correctly.

the chopping was caused by two reasons - wrong memory setup, and the old DVD rom probably. but in that time i had uberskin uninstalled, because of FarCry. when all bugs fixed and Uskin not in system the sound was flawless. with Uskin it is not so much flawless

Tihiy, I want to congratulate you with your uberskin once more. I have seen other skinning
software working and they are not in your class. Uberskin is so light and unnoticable!

I develop all my projects on a Windows '98 machine, because if they work there, they work
on all versions of Windows. Until now, sometimes my clients didn't trust my work because
they think that only amateurs still work on Win98. But that's all over now, because they
now see a Windows XP machine. Superfast and unhackable I might add.

Also, I have a request: it would be very nice if you could make the TabControls
skinnable. That would really finish the Windows XP illusion.

UberSkin 8.3.0 released! EXPERIMENTAL

This release includes new technology called "USER resource salvation":

Now, UberSkin is able to actually save precious Win9x resources, for now USER resources.
It reduces poor small 64K local heap overhead and reduces fragmentation.
While this change is minor, even small win is a win. You can notice improvements if you're running a lot of tidy programs.
This release is experimental and i need you very much to test it thoroughly.

Technical:
This was made possible by moving comctl32.dll classes into system class list. Thus, every process now has them by default and there is no need to pollute heap by copies of numerous comctl32 control classes. [sounds simple?]

Numbers:
With fresh, cleaned, just started system difference will be below 1%. However, with a lot of programs started, change will be noticeable.
For example, before, 30 Notepad copies will leave 65% USER resources free. With USalvation, 30 Notepad will leave 79% USER resources, and +20 additional Notepads will make 65% free. So, resource boost is 60%! But unfortunately, not every program is as simple as Notepad. For actual programs, boost may be not noticeable. [1 thread in application consumes space comparable with freed by those classes]

Answers:
Does this feature change UberSkin requirements?
No. In particular, this change relies on latest comctl32.dll version included with IE6. But, you already have it if you run UberSkin okay.
Can this change break programs?
No. This change is not noticeable by programs.
What about GDI resources?
There is technology i develop which will help to improve GDI resource management and provide more resources for hungry apps like Opera 9.50+. It should be available in the future.

Tihiy, it all sounds interesting, especially the GDI saving part. However, previous build brought a bug with Office XP: min/max/close buttons and the area around them do not skin correctly (actual buttons get skinned when hovered) and when typing in (tested in Excel) they lose all skinning.
Toggling maximize skins back the buttons area until typing again. I haven't yet installed 8.3.0 to see if it's fixed.

I've confirmed this bug. That's bug in USER and Office XP. Seems that it was there forever! It passes some random values, so sometimes it may or may not show.

Anyway, this bug is fixed and you'll see it in 8.3.1 (a bit later since it is too late now).

No, computer defaults Czech locale (IE too czech). What DLL call at running your DLL (comctl32.dll (5.81.4916.400) english version)? This problem with UberSkin from the start project.

Sorry, i don't understand a single thing you said. Can you explain it better? comctl32.dll 5.81.4916.400 includes all languages, and if you have problems with it, you better check your system. [Or really Czech system so special?]

If you mean height, you can reduce "TaskBarSize=" variable in skin.ini (if you mean Sky98, which is quite tall)!

I believe there are no programs which can't work after update. Even there if notes 'you should delete old version', nobody read them, right? So the programs always update old version or uninstall it.
You can upgrade or downgrade UberSkin, any version, without any possible problems.Any version released so far is backward and forward compatible.
