OK it is now begun Thanks to a couple of people who may wish to remain anonymous. (Unless they post so)
Here is my plans for 5.2 of the USP
LBA support
Coupla extras (Like TweakUI and 256 color Start tray icons)
WMP9
DX 9.0c
0 updates showing on MU\WU.
I do have a couple of questions for all of you though.
#1 Adminpack.msi Can I dump this since it is a fully optional use tool, it doesn't even install with windows 2000. I can keep it as a seperate download.
#2 I need some testers.
#3 Anyone still around that helped with the original pack?
I am starting over from a base sp4 so time to send me those obscure patches\hotfixes you guys have that will be needed for a complete install for you.
I would like to thank the person that sent me the compiler and the person who made the .ini .inf file optimizer for me.

You don't seem to be getting many replies, so I will volunteer to be a USP 5.2 tester, if needed.
Also you have my vote to keep adminpak as optional.

i think its just best to make the adminpack.msi an optional download. it will also save 14 megs off of USP 5.2. i wouldn't mind testing it either. im actually trying to bring a standard sp4 up to date for my work. im trying to do it with out USP 5.1 because i think it was causing some problems with the other hotfixes i was integrating.

I'll happily test it, as I was going to try and figure out (a while ago) how to remake the USP, or continue Gurglemeyer's work... I never got any further than looking into the basics of what needed to be done.

i almost have my copy of sp4 cd completely up to date. if you like i can post all the hotfixes and cab files i used if it will help you out.
Edit.
i got the sp4 cd up to date. the only updates that are there are the optional .net 1.1 and 2.0. of course once those are installed there will be updates for them.
Edit 2.
here are the hotfixes and cabs i added. i 7z the files into 3 archives here are the links

Thanks for the files i really appreciate it.
As of now I have DX9 fully integrating but I am getting 3 unsigned driver popups during installation.
Once I get past that part it should be no problem adding in WMP9 and the rest of the hotfixes.

Sweet now I can spend a few more sleepless nights and get this out!
Lets see I have:
WMP9
DX9
All but 4 updates
And a giant headache from the damned unsighned driver error...

Nice work! I'll happily test too although I'll only be able to test in VM if its not available soon (as I have a system I need to get up and running on win2k asap).

what drivers keep having a unsigned driver policy error and is there anything like the ignore driver siging policy that you can enable with and unattended setup or even have the usp modify the winnt.sif.

it's useless having the capability without time and sincerity on this work.
better to let this die than staining gurgelmeyer's work.

Thats why it has not been released yet.
I will not release it with flaws.

I would eagerly look forward to this as I have a barely working win2k install that badly needs a refresh.
Is the NET framework 1.1 + 2.0 with all service packs and hotfixes already in there? Because they're pretty much a must these days and need like 4 more reboots if you do them manually.
ETA: oh I see the NET issue is addressed earlier in this thread, sorry.

Sigh. It's probably time for me to give into the dark side and migrate (or at least dual boot)
to Windows XP since SP3 is out anyday now... I really dread it though.

I'm also ready to test. Bring it on. Meanwhile, is there a list of all public and support only (where you have to contact paid MS support) post unofficial SP5 hotfixes for Windows 2000? Except of course the security updates which are publicly available?

Nice effort, mate - I hope you succeed with this project of yours

Although personally, i would much preffer a basic pack with just all critical security/stability patches and not things like WMP, IE, tweakui etc.
Maybe a full and lite version

Of course it's your project and hence, your choise

Anyway, glad to see you're working on this

wow this is nice, - yet i wonder why - not a pre-sp5 roll up. it will save you a whole lot of work,
i do really wonder what is left to do besides DX9 and WMP9
as IE 6 isn't so mutch supported anymore, and IE7 wont run ..
also i do think 2k is rather complete as it is, unless one concidered an alternative
Grafical interface, (custom explorer - and desktop - ) perhaps over the years ROS has evolved enought
at this time id recoment something based on the mozilla suite (recent version) or firefox 3 with some aditional plugins and a decent windows 2 theme. also something like a replacement of editpad (rtf) by something like abiword - witch also supports MS office filetypes...

I appreciate the sentimate but I am sitll having a HUGE problem with driver signing. I am tryin my best to get past this without the use of hacked files.

Just one thing,I can't recall for sure, but I don't need to slipstream SP4 before USP5 do I? I think I just slipstreamed USP5 and then added the updates.

The only way I can do it is by hacking a file or two to bypass driver signing (Thats bad BTW) I will give it one more good shot this weekend but I think I may have been beat.

it's ok man if it cannot be done.
anyway, there are not so many w2k followers anymore, so it's not really worth your effort.
i'll just make do with kurt's "up-to-date" stuff.
between kurt's and onepiece post sp4 pack, i'd prefer kurt's.
i've tried onepiece post sp4 pack and i've had these:- unsigned driver error
- some weird behaviours.
- and most importantly, my pc runs very very slow.
but if i use usp5.1 + kurt's "up-to-date";
- my pc runs faster and stable.
- no error
no offence, just to share my experience.

im probably the devils advocate here, but,
why not drop drivers (and driver.cab) all the way, and creating a driverpack (or set of driverpacks),
its not all to dificult and WILL safe us all quite a lot of problems,
even though at this point mostly that project (at driverpacks.net) is geared to winxp they have a verry good tutorial on how to create your own,
imho - creating such packages (and removing all non-win2k files (like win98 / xp / 2k3 etc files and comenting them (or removing) them from the ini file would still allow for driver-signing - also it would GREATLY improve default hardware support...
the process (even on win2k) is verry stable -
the sole reason i dont intend to do it myself is that i no longer run windows on any of my pc's other than my vista laptop only untill i have so time to move it too...
i Would however support any effort by others,
if you are willing and are stuck somewhere just send me a pm or so..

I am truly sorry to tell you guys this:
I just can't do it. I have spent well over 200 hours on the damned service pack. I cannot get past the unsigned drivers issue.
I would suggest using these addons here
http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=28 OR
Kurt aust's wonderful solution found in the sticky posts.
I have tested both quite a bit and found them both very good. If you want the bare essentials use onepieces setup and if you want to go even further then use Kurt Aust's wonderfull solution.
Once again I am very sorry...

I think that all but the most annoying / demanding / self-righteous jerk should consider you a brave man for even making the attempt.
I certainly couldn't have tried, my guide being as it is the result of trial, error and google.

well, Kelsenellenelvian has earned my respect because he has always been professionally calm and patient in replying my annoying / demanding posts.
when a hero sharing solutions to others finally burst into tears because of an annoying/ demanding/ self-righteous jerk, people will laugh.
