i need a list containing all the microsoft products released from 2006 to date with a short description of what each product does and 3 similar products from competitve software houses.. help would be immensely appreciated. thanks in advance..

Here is lists of all of the MS products on these pages as for alternatives I can't help you except for the standard ones like Open Office, trillian all the standard replacements.

What do you mean by all products? Does that include every little utility or hotfix? What about things that haven't been released yet? Does MS Surface count?
