CODE
"[.ShellClassInfo]LocalizedResourceName=@%SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,-21799.)

Can anyone tell me how to stop this happening?

Thanks as allways Buster67

What file did you edit in order to change the "Install Windows" and "Checking Performance" screen?
Buster67
sorry for the late reply it is the
CODE
spwizimg.dll file
sp00f
Edited mine to, but no popup like that.
radigast
google "shell32.dll, -21799". This should give you some more info...
radigast
spwizimg.dll is located in 5 places on an extracted WinVista SP1 cd:

1. ".\Sources\"
2. In install.wim - "%windir%\System32\"
3. In install.wim - "%windir%\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-s..on-wizard-framework....6.0.6000.16386_none_b652e536179397f"
4. In install.wim - "%windir%\winsxs\x86_microsoft-windows-s..on-wizard-framework....6.0.6001.18000_none_b41c233a548e28ab"
5. "\.Sources\Support\MIGWIX"

I've edited the appropriate .bmp resources in EVERY spwizimg.dll in ALL locations using reshack, and none of the install screen .bmps are changing. I've made sure that the .bmp files I am using to replace are the EXACT same resolution as the ones ialready in the .dll file.

Are there any more copies that also need to get edited? What program are you using to edit and replace .bmps in the .dll file? You are replacing them with 24-bit .bmps, right? Did you do anything special to get the images to appear?\

Change only this one :

CODE
2. In install.wim - "%windir%\System32\"

I have changed this one, and only ever see my images after the computer has restarted and begins reading off the hard drive. I want to see them both when Vista installs from the DVD and when it restarts and finishes installing off my hard drive.

Where are the ones that are read off of the DVD during the install? I have scoured boot.wim, but that doesn't have spwizimg.dll.

I modded all the files which are in sources directory.....but after restarting....the default background image only appearing again......anyone please help me.....by the way....u guys know?...how to change the windows edition name in system properties?.....right now i'm using home premium....but i want to change this edition name to vista ultimate....anyone know where to change this one....? please anyone help me with these two matters...Thank you
Buster67
To change edition name you have to edit the basebrd.dll this can be found in the install.wim
You have to mount your wim file first.

Mount\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\en-US\basebrd.dll.mui

Did you edit the files in the .wim files ?
bensam56
s dude.....i mounted that file....and changed other files like welcome center, imageres.dll.....like that....but i cannot able to change the windows edition name which is appearing system properties...and not in login screen......i want to change only in system properties....by the way tell me....which file i have to modify to change the setup background image.....?....Thanx in advance...
Buster67
To modify the background image you have to edit the spwizimg.dll file this file is in four different places.

They are at the root of your disk in boot.wim & install.wim

1.@ the root of your disk is Support\migwiz\spwizimg.dll

2.@ the root of your disk is\sources\spwizimg.dll

3. install.wim-mount\windows\system32\spwizimg.dll

4. boot.wim - mount\sources\spwizimg.dll

As is said before to edit the windows edition name this can be found @ Mount\Windows\Branding\Basebrd\en-US\basebrd.dll.mui

bensam56
Thank you very much dude......u helped me a lot... thumbup.gif
bensam56
One more question dude.....i integrated the dremescenes in ultimate version....and i added the video files only wmv and mpeg files.......but when the installation goes into the OOBE section...the video file is not appearing.....i created the visual style.....and i added in the wallpaper=windows-----web----windows Dremescenes------.mpg. by the way how to add 3rd parties applications along with the installation?....Thanx in advance
bensam56
dude i cant find that file in boot.wim.....i searched it thoroughly.....

shell32.dll,-21799 looks like a resource that is trying to be used from an invalid CLSID (probably with garbage in InProcServer). I think it's the Common Desktop shell extension.

Have a look in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderDescriptions\{C4AA340D-F20F-4863-AFEF-F87EF2E6BA25}

Ok sure dude....i'm sorry for that mate....Whether the above files should i modify?......Because

if i autorun the DVD inside a windows.....the setup image is working by changing spwizimg.dll in sources alone....if we want to change the messages in the dialog box....we have to change autores.dll.mui in En-US directory.......if we change these two files....everything is fine...but when i start the installation from the DVD....the default image is coming. Thank you mate.

Do you use GimageX to mount the 2° image of boot wim, like the screen

if you mount the 1°image it don't work.

"not at the same time as 1 and 2"???you must mount only the 2 image of boot wim and modify this one.

OOBEResources located in the mounted install.wim windows\system32\oobe you need to use PE Explorer to edit it.

Hello there Buster, I hope you can help me out with my problem. I was finally able to edit my spwizimg.dll file and everything is going good so far. I am having one problem and that is the bg wallpaper of the first screen. When I click "Install Now" button and go to the next screen, my bg works, but at the first menu, the old BG keeps showing up. I have replaced my "spwizimg.dll" in all four places.

1) the root of your disk is Support\migwiz\spwizimg.dll
2) the root of your disk is\sources\spwizimg.dll
3) install.wim-mount\windows\system32\spwizimg.dll
4) boot.wim - mount\sources\spwizimg.dll

Do I need to place the spwizimg.dll somewhere else too?

Also do you know what file to edit to change the text color for the setup screen. I am chaning everything I can, but I am running into the text color problem. So if you know, please let me know the file name. thank you!

My Project Info:

Windows Vista Ultimate X64 Bit OS

Edit spwizimg.dll with - Restorator 2007

Microsoft Windows AIK Installed - I am using the GImageX to mount my Image.

So if you can please help me out. Thank you for your time.

I have worked out that you need to change only 5 screens to change the background on install.

The files and there whereabouts are as follows.

1/ Boot.wim windows/system32/winpe

2/ Boot.wim sources/spwizimg-image 517

3/ Insall.wim windows/system32/spwizimg-image 517

4/ Insall.wim windows/system32/oobe/ image-msoobe

5/ Insall.wim windows/system32/oobe/OOBEResources RC Data OOBE_BAKGROUND_0 & OOBE_BAKGROUND_LARGE_0

In the msoobe.exe.mui file it has these lines:
"20pt;;;Federation;ClearType"
"9pt;;;Another Typewriter;ClearType"
"8pt;;;OldNewspaperTypes;ClearType"
