Hi m8s

This is my first post on this forum so thanks in advance for any help.

Basically I have a dual boot setup, Windows XP pro (sp3) and Vista Ultimate.

The Problem

In my XP setup I have lost System Properties, ie:
Right clicking My Computer - The word properties is missing.
Using the keyboard keys Winkey+Pause - doesn't work
And in Control Panel, System - doesn't work

I was hoping installing sp3 would clear the problem but it didn't.

Any ideas please

Thanks

Downloaded file, unzipped it, copied it to Windows-System32 replacing the one there.

Still didn't work,

I think you misunderstand me Softmobi4all

When right clicking My Computer - in the list that pops up there should be at the bottom of the list the word "Properties" but is not there.

When Using the keyboard keys Winkey+Pause - nothing happens.

And in Control Panel, the System icon - doesn't work

I don't think I need a sysdm.cpl file, what I need is the link, path or registry varibles.

Thanks

Start >> Run >>Regedit
Navigate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Delete the Value DWORD Type and Value Named as NoPropertiesMyComputer
Exit Registry and Reboot
T9PMK
Thanks Neo

Where do I alter

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

there are:

(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)
EditLevel REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
NoClose REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
NoCommonGroups REG_DWORD 0x0000000 (0)
NoDriveTypeAutoRun REG_DWORD 0x00000091 (145)
NoFileMenu REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
NoMovingBands REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
NoPropertiesMyComputer REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)
NoRun REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)
NoSaveSettings REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

and when navigating to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
I can navigate as far as Policies, but Explorer is not there, only "NoNEnum", "Ratings" and "System".

Sorted yes.gif

Thanks Neo

In HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Reset the value of

NoPropertiesMyComputer REG_DWORD 0x00000001 (1)

to

NoPropertiesMyComputer REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0)

and all works again

Right clicking My Computer - The word properties is now back again.
Using the keyboard keys Winkey+Pause - works again
And in Control Panel, System - works as it should do.

Thanks again
