hey ya'll,

I am currently preparing to take my N+ certification, and just wanted to know if anyone here has it and if it was hard? There was another kid in the class before me who took it like 4 times till he passed, and he studyed 9 months for it. I cant see how it can be this hard.

anyways, if you got it, or failed it, just give me some tips smile.gif

yes i have it, it was not competely easy but i do know someone that took it 6 times till he passed but it was his own stupid, fault. i'll look around and see if i still have some practice questions for you. only thing is that i took it when they were hard( 100+ questions) i think the new test are under 20 questions so it may not help you at all. i heard they made it easier because too many people were failing it, (isn't that a good thing blink.gif )

I have a couple of trainings apps allready, but thx 4 the offer.

I think it's a good thing if manny ppl failt it, it gives the cert. a higher worth.

N+ isn't that tough (at least it wasn't 2 years ago). Know your OSI model. You'll be asked at what layer(s) certain hardware/software operate on. Know nbtstat and netstat and their switches (-a, -n and -s were the most important to know for both commands.) There were some basic Windows connectivity questions and a couple of questions related to IRQs. CompTIA likes to add a little A+ material into every one of their tests. If you're not sure you're ready (and have money to burn), go for I+ first. It's N+ lite, Basic HTML and search engine usage. N+ won't get you many jobs, but you'll have a better understanding of how things work. It's a worthwhile cert IMHO.

Yup. Easy to pass.

I'll probably take it in the 2nd week of januar. I'd like to take it now, but I rather study a bit more cause I dont have the money to take it twice

In addition to knowing the OSI model inside and out, be sure to know all of the networking protocols...other than that, if you have studied at all, most of the test is pretty much common sense.

I don't get why do people still pay for the N+. The CCNA includes most of the N+, pushing it further much of the time, is more glamourous (bigger impact on a resumé) and is cheaper than N+.

My 2 cents...

I'd suggest to still study hard for the N+, but when you feel really ready for it, don't pass the exam. Buy yourself a good CCNA book (anything from Cisco Press) with that money, save the rest for the CCNA exam, and pass onto the next step.

You'll end up with the very same knowledge, a resume wich is as good as one with N+ and you'll have saved roundly 100$ US.

My 2 cents, part 2.

I have to take the N+ or else I wont pass the class that I'm taking. I know the A+ and N+ aint gona give me much, but that's where I'm starting.
