I think the British Government will oppose any penalty such as that. As being part of the invasion force we would not want to be seen as giving out capital punishment by proxy... or maybe they will just say "its now iraqs business" and try brush it off.

Guys, I live in an Arabic country & I have to clear things up for you: EACH King or President that rules an Arabic territory (except UAE) is no better than Saddam at all, and that's for sure, beleive me. It's only that these leaders are keeping their relatioship with the US always warm. But when things change, their future will be the same as Saddam..

here's an idea, let get all the info out of him that we can, then we'll let his own people have him..i doubt they will have mercy on him, as a matter of fact we'll probably be giving him the best security around considering his own people want him dead.

I am angry at the violence he inflicted on innocent people regardless of where it happened.

The world has established laws against inflicting violance on innocent people so that the world will not be overrun by violent dictators. It is called "crimes against humanity". This man ruled his country with no regard for those laws and the result was a few hundred rich men, a middle class society, towns full of starving people, and nation full of mass graves.

Surely, people must answer for crimes of this nature? Should he be put to death or alllowed to live the rest of his life in prision? Both choices have conseqences and send messages. Death or life in prision would send a clear message that this is what happens to people with no regard for laws. Maybe the next wannabe dictator will heed that message and the message will save the lives of innocent people on a mass scale.

Yes, we Americans contributed to the fall of SH. Maybe without our intervention people would still be starving and the mass graves would be more numerous. For whatever reason anyone feels or believes so strongly that we Americans did it (oil or any other purpose) I ask you to consider the people of Iraq now have the opportunity to live in society governed by the laws they choose for themselves. At least they will now have a choice whereas before there was no choice.
