I clicked for XP Pro, for everyday use, or workstation.
Win2k is not bad either, but I think XP is easier...
I didn't play enough with win2k3 to have a clear idea, and to really know what distinguishes it from win2k server.

If anyone votes for Windows ME their IP should be banned from this board, or the entire internet. Or a beating. A beating by every board member sounds good too.
XP is by far the greatest, and anyone who disagrees obviously doesn't know how to maintain a computer. I'm kind of disappointed to hear though that Longhorn MAY not be done until 2008. I mean, that's still 5 years away. I'm only 20 right now. Heck, I could have a child by then. Microsoft needs to get on the ball. Or whatever it is that monopolistic corporations get on.

I'm actually hoping Longhorn is delayed until '08. As part of the Microsoft Campus Agreement if I graduate from college while my college is still offering XP as part of the MSCA then I get to keep it forever. Otherwise, I have to destroy my copy and buy Longhorn--something I really don't want to do. I dislike the direction MS is taking Windows and I intend to stick with XP (that is, until I get a 64-bit processor and decide to get a 64-bit OS to run on it, although by that time maybe gaming on Linux will be a bit better...) Anyway, enough of my off-topic rambling. My vote is for XP Pro, although if 2000 had visual styles and disk performance was a good as XP I'd vote for that.

My god... It's 4 years off.. how can you be sure exactly where Windows is going? Look at what MS said about the Xbox just a year before it was released. You can not judge your opinion on a BETA of an OS that isn't due for 4 years...

On my laptop I use XP pro, simply because I "trimmed the fat" and it runs like a champ, I tried 2000pro but the battery life was horrid. On the Desktop I use server 2003, and the other box is BSD.

maybe the best but I remember having a lot of problems with the my computer thing I forgot what it was called back then
whenever I changed from 1 floppy to another it would still show the contents of the first one and I'd have to open the "my computer" again
I think there was no refresh

thinking about all those 100floppy disk games I installed took hours to install them..

and with longhorn expected by 2007 we have four years to figure out tricks, tweaks and hacks for XP. By the time longhorn is released XP will be superfast (on a 2007 processor), while Longhorn will be just workable.
XP Pro for the next five years

I think its going to be good for all.(not having another os until 2007.
most ppl who has not switched to it yet, will switch
the ppl who are in here, will know everything about all the xp tweaks hacks

. Maybe in that time we could write our own os

this is I think the longest wait from os to os. they had released a windows every year or so, before.

If longhorn isn't due for another 4 years, then that could put XP in danger at that time, cause microsoft allows only a seven year 'life span' on its os's before it stops servicing them, which will give everyone a year to change over. They ding it diliberatly! Oh, I chose XP, as it's got pretty colours

Definetly XP Professional.
When i first got my old computer back in 2000 I had Windows 98 Second Edition, and bad enough it caused so much problems on my dad's computer, I had to keep formating every month or so . And that ran on a 10G hdd, so that could be a hint of a problem why it did that. LMAO
Then i switched to Win2K , it was the beset operting system that ran on my dad's computer and
NEVER absoutely
never crashed. But then I was stupid and upgraded it to XP, on a 128MB memory, 10G hdd.
Now that i got my computer, Windows XP rulsz!

I prefer 2000 for my part.
Of course XP is more easier for many points, but there are some bugs which are not in 2000, and I think 2000 is more stqble than XP.

you shall be shot and killed for the ME statement.
98SE is better then WinME, in MHO.
I installed WinME once, and it crashed on me. I had a 1 ghz computer, with 256 ram. Everytime i tried to play a game (XCom, StarCraft, or whatever) WinME would either refuse to play it or the system halted.
ME = Many Excuses. ME = Much Expense, ME = Most Exploitable.
I personally miss DOS. That was the most stable OS. Granted not very graphical, but stable. Windows 1.0 is just a renamed DOS

I personally agree with all those say Windows ME is the worst OS after Windows 95 obviously...Never had so many BSOD as when i had Windows 98 First Edition...
However it depends a lot by the user...how and how much he tweaks his pc...
However:
WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL RULE AND WILL RULE!!! (until longhorn?

....... LOL ....... I don't see much of "H" in your "MHO".
Well, it's a free country and everyone's entitled to their opinion.
BTW, did I tell you guys that I'm enjoying the number of expansions you are coming up with for the "ME" acronym ? I keep repeating that I think ME is better/faster than 98 (note: not faster than XP) and some or the other jolly soul responds with a funny full-form of the "ME" short-form.
Anyway, winME still runs pretty stable on my dad's tortoise (Cyrix M-II 233 MHz, 32 MB RAM, S3 1 MB VRAM 2D card, 2.3 GB HD - beat that). And my Jet (i'm referring to my new comp here) runs XP comfortably. There'll be any number of people again, saying that ME is worse than 98 SE, and that XP is worse than 2k Pro. But the way I see it, it's about personal preferences, about which one is able to handle your needs better.
In 2-3 years time, we'll probably see the same people who deride WinXP as a "Toys-R-U"s OS say that XP is the best OS, and that WinLH is bull-s***.
