WHO PICKED WinME!? realmad.gif

jus some idiots who think they can be funny by picking win ME..... ME is not even worthy enough to be a choice
zbeta
98 SE + 98lite = rullezzz

anyway XP Pro got my votes
Famer
what i have used

1) windows 3.1
2)windows for workgroups
3)windows nt 3.1 and 3.51
4)windows 95 and 98reg
5)windows nt 4.0
6)windows 2000
7)windows xp

the ones i really liked was 3.51 cause it was the last os M$ made with a unix like interface and 2000 xp im still getting use too it's way to bloated and its a resource hog as well
chinr
I prefer XP Pro,but I think 2K3 maybe better cool.gif
tkdrbssla
rolf;; 3 voted ME -o-

First let me start by saying METALLICA RULES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously XP is the man for everyday use... But 2K is the man when it comes to maintaining a network as long as ut not on it all day cause to get anything done u haver to know what ur doing and it takes a lot more to install and keep it running smooth. Clearing logs and blah blah blah. Anyone that uses XP home should be bannished from earth, cause it really sux!! and thats how I really feel...lol
gosh
My favorite is windows 99, they should have used it instead of what became windows me. http://air101.soft-welt.de/Win99.html. I still got it on cd. Despite what some people say it's real.

I liked 98se never had a blue screen, then got ME the day it was released and never had a blue screen. Just got XP Pro 6 weeks ago and am really starting like it, takes a little getting use to.
LAS3R
Win98 was most fun system, not best doh but was simple, clean and small in size, and if u like me use softice then win98 is only system really was made for it!

but if want non problem , easy system then i go for XP!
HyDeNCiTy
Can't believe that someone actually voted for ME... Maybe they did it as a joke to f*&k with our heads....
Bilou_Gateux
Windows XP Embedded on a thin client in a networked environnement with a broadband router and DHCP Server is fine !
R600
I find WinXP more friendly when it comes to configuring networks and stuff. Not saying it can't be done in 2k, but I just prefer XP on it.

One thing I don't like about Windows (ME onwards) is that you can never format the drive properly.
I have to revert to using my Win98 Boot Disk to format my HD in order to find and correct errors on the drive.
Sim31
Windows 98 because I liked customizing, I always used it!
tim
My vote : Windows Server 2003 Standard - Fast and rock solid stable

Windows ME - Most useless f**king POS OS ever made
CuBie
w2k3 rocks over xp! woot.gif

Chris.
frizzly_hair
because i use 2k,xp is beautiful, but expansive ,i can not afford it,
pimp_gimp
XP Professional I use......I had XP Home but upgraded to pro for security reasons, also I have windows server 2k3 but since its a server I didnt like it much cuz im a gamer....and its not meant for that....ALSO 98SE was a good OS at the time and I used it for a long time before I built 2 new machines and got XP
Guyver
Well my vote goes to 2k3 it surprised the hell out of me being able to do all of what XP could and then some woot.gif
DaveXP
win2k3 is a great Server OS it so stable and has not fault me yet and XP Pro is great for Desktops i like both
koyath
I actually like win98, but mostly use winxp pro.
WildKat
I definately agree XP Pro is the best OS, but surely thats obvious because its the newest and has the most pleasing refinements over previous operating systems.
I have to disagree with most of your opinions on Windows ME, sure its no great OS but its not that bad either. I think its reputation has been set by a few who have had bad experiences and the rest have followed the opinion. If there was no XP, then ME/98 would be ruling because there would have been reliability/functional improvements over time. Imagine XP with no service pack and no patches, it would be the most insecure OS ever.
I used ME for a couple of years before making a new PC with XP Pro, I never had any issues with ME. Im not one for bandwagon thinking.
mumuuu
WinXP PRO but Win2K3 is so better because security is higher (exemple = IIS 6 works with a less powerfull acces than before like on older version i mean winXP & older it was working with SYSTEM acces so ........)

really those 2 products are very cool but prefere win 2k3

*******************

LINUX POWER nothing better in fact but question was about microsoft laugh.gif biggrin.gif woot.gif welcome.gif
Alanoll
I would have to agree with the opinions of ME.

ME has a bad reputation. But it really depends on what you do with it. I usually puch my PC to the limits and ME broke everytime. My brother only played a few games, and chatted online and had no problems at all.

I still prefer 98 for gaming (I like my classic DOS games), but XP for most other thigns.
XtremeMaC
@wildcat well if there was no xp there would be win 2000 smile.gif
i used w2k for a long time
and as for the security what in the world makes u think that 98/me were secure?
mumuuu
lol me if there was no XP i think i 'll choose a nice a powerfull TUX a good DEBIAN SARGE with patch and eveything just perfect lol biggrin.gif welcome.gif
andrewpayne
XP Pro by far!
okih-imus
XP can't run some software I have so i'm all for windows98se! (You get the software for the software, makes sense). plus i hear that win98 does integer operations faster? dunno. I also read somewhere that 98 is good with small files while xp is good with large files (or am i getting confused between NTFS and Fat32 O_O;?) oh well, i'm running 98 right now! but there's 1 prob, can't play thief3. 98 isn't supported sad.gif and thus begins my having to go to the xp. personally, i find windows 98 to change between programs faster than xp. that's just my 2 cents.
cassy309
xp pro
crck3rz
My fave is XP Pro but just started using Xandros Desktop 2.0 Professional and i can honestly see why more people are switching from windows to linux
Shun Di
Windows 2k3 all the way.
Tokugawapants
Tough choice, but I would say Windows XP Pro. I have another computer that is slower in terms of megahertz but is overall a lot faster because it is using Windows 98SE. I don't do anything that requires really high security, but I have had to restore my hd using images a couple times on XP Pro.
MCT
XP Pro biggrin.gif its the most customizable

I agree with wildkat.

@Alanoll:
I push my PC (and other machines which I get access to) to the *ABSOLUTE* limits, and winME invariably handled better than 98/98se.
XtremeMaC
okay but u guys are forgetting that windows 2000 exists biggrin.gif
anyways I think "if xp did not exist" is not really an option. its obvious that there was going to be another version of windows. and we although there are at least 5 years to its release, know that longhorn will exist right?
anyways I think this "best os" has been discussed over and over again for nothing. most often the latest product is better than the previous ones.
u could have comparisons between windows/linux/unix/mac osx/etc.. but amongst ms os's xp pro is going to be the winner for computers that are at least p3/k7 etc...
FireKosh
welcome.gif well i personally would vote for the im with stupid OS woot.gif but alas it doesnt exist so i will stop trying to be such a smart u know what and go with Windows XP Professional =o)
Denney
Does everyone own a copy or Windows XP Professional? Not really a question but a half statement. I'm not condoning warez but it seems to me unlikely that all of you own a copy of Windows XP Professional.

BTW... I voted for Windows XP Professional to so I can't really talk.
HyDeNCiTy
I think we need to let this thread die... laugh.gif

hey now.....
I voted for Windows 98.

But i do have 4 licenses for Windows XP Pro. So....umm....yeah. I believe I'm legit. Until I install on 5 computers.....

I personally believe that if you truly did purchase it, there should be a way to disable activation legally. Personal Corp key or something that gets logged by WU or something.....
Justice
Legal? Why yes. 10 Installs of XP Pro, Office2K3, Outlook2K3, Publisher2K3, Visio2K3, Mappoint2K3, Project2K3, and single installs of W2K3 server, 2K3 Exchange, SQL 2K, SBS, ISA Server 2K, MIS2K2, and Sharepoint Portal Server /w 10CAL's on software (Where applicable).

All for $299.
Shun Di
You have that special pack from MS Justice? If so, have you had any problems with it... I'm thinking about requesting one, but I'm not sure.
Justice
Yeah, the MS Action Pack.

To view the link, you will need to register your passport account (If you have one) with the Microsoft Partner services. No biggie, just make up a business name in your head. It's free to sign up.

I haven't had any problems. In fact I'm getting one of my customers on the program so he can be legit for his new office. Paying $300 initially, then renewing the subscription for $200 every year, more than pays for itself. Every quarter MS sends out any updated software for your subscription. Very, VERY good deal if you are concerned about staying legal in this day and age.

Voted for and gotta say XP Pro biggrin.gif

It has everything that all the other operating systems has if you know how to use it properly newwink.gif
and i've found it the most stable under all conditions i've put it under and 24/7 use works sound ...
FAT64
I still prefer Windows 2000. I'm undecided about the XP interface, can't decide whether I like it or not (I should have been born a woman! newwink.gif )
