Hi everybody,
I think one of the major defaults of nLite is its lack of informations in components removal section. In fact, even people with some experience of Windows like me are sometimes confused. We do need to add as informations as we can.
So, I begin:
Volume Shadow Copy : needed by NTbackup, used by some third-party backup utilities like DriveImage XML
Network Monitor Driver and Tools : needed by WinPcap and dependant applications (network monitoring)
Sound Controllers drivers : 1) needed for audio of some virtual machines - 2) if HDAudio is used, kb888111 will need to be reinstalled
Ethernet drivers : needed for ethernet adapters of some virtual machines
USB Audio support : needed for microphone integrated in webcam
ActiveX for streaming video, HTTP SSL and Universal Plug and Play Device Host : used by WMP to share content over the network
HTTP SSL : used by WebDAV (but I don't use WebDAV so I can't confirm)
Intel Indeo codecs : used for video cinematics of video game Commandos 2
Intel PCI IDE controller : used by guest in Virtual PC, if not present will use generic IDE driver instead
NetShell command tool (NetSH) : UltraVNC calls it during installation (if not present, fails to configure windows firewall)
VB runtimes : CCleaner doesn't need them anymore since version 2.x
Extra Fonts : Webdings font used by graphics in some applications (ex: configuration dialog of ffdshow), displays garbage if font not found
Jet Database Engine and its dependency MDAC : Dreamweaver and Outpost Firewall 4.0 log viewer (and probably higher versions)
please correct me for any mistake and ADD content! cheers

If you are going to do this, you need to add your background information, and you need to SPECIFY what windows os you write comments for, on versions on everything.
Using nlite on 32bit is not the same as 64bit the options are different, as an example.

this is a good idea. i always found some of those descriptions in nlite to be a little vague

Imho it is necessary to provide information what filename version needs what other files..
I am currently removing over edit:2700+ files without using nlite, only batches, and let me tell you it is a b***h of a job to figure out what needs what.
I understand nuhi dont have written so much comments, because everything sort of depends on everything in the end.
2 different services need each others files, f.examlpe DDE services and Network connections, Then network connections also share files with other services again, and Wireless configuration share files with network configuration. Then there are files that doesnt seem to be needed for anything at all, then you go ahead and delete them, and voila bluescreen of death on next reboot.
It will require a tremendous amount of effort to document the entire thing, and it will require details details details details details!
Just because one windows version has specific file dependencies doesnt necessarily automatically transfer over to another windows version..
And maybe some dependencies disappear with newer or older versions of the files.
Therefore you need as i said, to *REALLY* detail the process.
Nevertheless, its truly possible, it's just a total biatch2k to get done.

Thanks, but it's so many scenarios to test, it would probably never be done in time as a one man task.
Yesterday i had done a new install and when i pointed mousepointer to control panel, explorer would quit, it took me 10 seconds to figure out the problem with a nice program called procmon, process monitor.
Turns out i had forgotten to reinstart "alternate sorts" under regional settings in windows registry (i import keyboard, mouse etc settings at install).

Teletext codec
Needed for:
- Cameras and Camcorders
just wondering, is teletext codec really needed? I only use a USB webcam... no scanner, no TV tuner, no camcorder
