... why does WU/MU wants me to have them NOW ...

Because Microsoft only just realised that they made a mistake in their WU/MU system.

KB936782 (MS07-047) has always been needed for WMP11 -- if you check the_guy's list you see it listed for XP SP2 AND XP SP3.

On 12-August-2008 Microsoft realised that this update was still necessary but not being detected on SP3. Now it is! You can find this out for yourself if you follow the links that the_guy provides and read security bulletin MS07-047:
QUOTE
Why was this security bulletin revised on August 12, 2008?
Microsoft revised this security bulletin to add Windows XP Service Pack 3 as affected software upon which Windows Media Player 9, Windows Media Player 10, and Windows Media Player 11 run. This is a detection change only; there were no changes to the binaries. ...

Also, don't make the dangerous mistake (as many do) that MU/WU is infallible, or even anywhere near perfect!

Thanks! problem solved. I will continue to include them when I run HFSLIP.

Microsoft have changed their minds about WMP and XP SP3 again!

For WMP11 there is no change from my last post.

But for WMP9:
QUOTE
Why was this security bulletin revised on September 10, 2008?
Microsoft revised this security bulletin to remove Windows Media Player 9 on Windows XP Service Pack 3 from the Affected Software table. This is a bulletin change only; there were no changes to detection or to the binaries. Customers who have successfully updated their systems do not need to reinstall this update.
