Hi to all.

I´ve just updated the tweaks collection.

I cleaned the layout a bit, re-writed a few things to be more clear, removed the description of each service in each of the services reg files, remade the readme file, made a pt-br version of the tweaks, and other small things.

I am trying to update my site, that will have a page with all the info about the tweaks and the services, but my server is currently off. The page is almost ready, i only need to upload it and fix a few things, so i hope i will be online soon.

Besides the normal folder with all the tweaks inside, the pack now has another folder called "essentials".
The idea of this folder is what i asked you guys on this topic before, about having only essential tweaks for an unattended setup. So, here it is..

I have also added another file called "visual effects.reg" that has windows visual tweaks and some other stuff.

Main Changes of this Version
  • Added - Tweaks to change other visual stuff rathen than windows defaults (like use Royale Noir, use Segoe UI as system font, etc...)
  • Added - Some new tweaks inside "other_software.reg" file
  • Added - The package now has a new folder with only essential tweaks to a unattended installation.
  • Removed - "Change Transition Effect to Menus and Tips using Fade", ´cause it was restarting my PC and the ones i installed (and took me about 4 days to find out this ******).
  • Removed - The batch files inside the package. There are instrucions inside the readme file instead.
You all have been very helpfull to make this a nice tweaks collection. I would like to ask you guys to keep reporting errors, invalid or double entries, things i might have translated wrong and other problems so i can correct it.

Also the "essentials" folder has tweaks that i found to be essentials. If you think that some tweak you may find essentil is missing from the files, or another one should be removed, let me know.

Bellow goes the attachments.
Cheers.

Awesome, I love registry tweaks! biggrin.gif Thanks a lot!

*Still finding new things! thumbup.gif

I´m thinking about making separate files for hardware tweaks, such as nVidia and ATI Cards tweaks.

That way, only users of this respective hardwares should use this tweaks.

I´m looking up for more tweaks for nVidia, ATI, 3dfx, and specific motherboards, such as other tweaks (many) to be implemented in the next version.

I´m working on it, now. The next version will be release very soon, i hope.

If anyone know any tweaks that would like to be implemented in the collection, please post here or PM me.

I use a 3dfx Card, and now i´m having problems even changing resolution i got blue screens on winxp.

This is why i´m thinking of making separated files for hardware tweaks. This way, ATI Cards users will only have to concern about that specific tweak file, and some for nVidia, 3dfx, Matrox and S3 vgas.

Any other new discovered tweak, not only related to hardware, will be very welcome as well.

cheers.

gugutz.

Thats nice... been looking for some registry tweaks... Sorry for being asking a noob question... Where could i find the attachment or download link?
MGadAllah
sorry but I did not find any attachment mate.
Thanks
Camarade_Tux
I'm under the impression he removed the links.

PM him for more precision.
If needed, I have the files on my computer (gugutz_RegTweaks_Collection_v0.2.7z).

I've thought about a private PM too ...but I want to let it be shared for all members and not for me only, but I'll do it
Thanks
gugutz
the link is at http://gugutz.co.nr/regtweaks

The page is under construction untill a compile my new collection, witch will be only essential tweaks for an unattended setup.

but you can download the version 2 (the same that was attached at this topic) in the page above.

stay tuned for the new version, it will be a collection with only essential tweaks that will be suposed to make an unattended setup shining, fast and reade (and beaultiful, of course). I´m learning a few things with vista first, but shouldn´t take long.

btw, i don´t know why the attachment has been gone. i didn´t do it. IPB must have exploded it somehow.

cheers to all.

Hope to see it here again cool.gif

as you requested, MGadAllah, the attachment is at the 1º message again.

I want to ask you guys something: would you like a compiled version of ONLY tweaks for an unattended setup?
I mean, this sets of tweaks includes kind of "all-possible-tweaks" under XP.

But i´m thinking of making something more "unattended" like, something you could just add a line to you cmdlines.txt to get you xp filled with really essential tweaks, like NTFS speeding up, other performance stuff, and things like that. This way you wouldnt have to look inside the files to remove millions of things you don´t like, and tweaks that only have a porpuse in a very special circumstance, like Legal Notice Caption before users log on (who uses that?)

What about it?

YES...It is a very good add thumbup.gif
already waiting for it
cumminbk
Perhaps add a section of tweaks that only apply at first boot of windows (Some local machine tweaks only apply at first boot) I apply my tweaks at T-13 and at first boot for the ones that dont apply at T-13.
gugutz
that´s the idea, cumminbk. Some tweaks that are applied at T-13 with cmdlines does not "stay" ´cause at first logon Windows sets a few things up based on the winnt.sif file, so a "2º import" becomes necessary. But i´ll specify that on a readme file.

I already compiled this new unattended collection, but it is on my language. I will translate it to english and open a new topic about it as soon as it becomes ready.

BTW: A very nice new year to everybody!
icyj
Thanks for the extra work you put into the reg tweaks. I've been following since the 1st thread. These tweaks have been very useful.

Thanks a lot for your work. thumbup.gif

Btw, if you still want to have inf files, see http://siginet.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=137 newwink.gif
gugutz
i don´t know about that anymore, Camarade.

Do you think it would be a good idea?
glent
Nice update thnx
holoman
thanx alot for your service
Camarade_Tux
@gugutz, sorry for the late answer
Having infs instead of reg files is handy when it comes to localization because you can use vars (and end-vars ?).
I think files should be kept as .reg and entries that needs localization should all be moved in the same inf (same, because there are not many of them).

@gugutz, I´ve just updated the tweaks collection.

FYI: I get an error message and the print folder is emptied when setting print spooler service to your suggested manual setting. Maybe it's my particular printer driver but I have to set mine to automatic in order to add or display existing printer.

EDIT: seems others recommend keeping this service automatic too: http://www.theeldergeek.com/print_spooler.htm

Thanks a lot for the tweaks.

Afaik, Automatic is the only working state : manual does not work correctly. For instance if you start Word and the spooler service is not started, it won't see the printer until you start the service AND restart word. confused.gif
Chrysalis
thanks, currently I do all current user tweaks in cmdlines and local machine in runonceex is this good enough or should current user be reimported 2nd time after 1st boot?

also the following tweak is wrong I think.

; Show Hidden Files and Folders

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Hidden"=dword:00000000

should be

; Show Hidden Files and Folders

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced]
"Hidden"=dword:00000001

many thanks.
some1
Do I say that on your webbie, its version 0.2, here its v0.4 tongue.gif
gugutz
@some1, i havent updated my site yet. i´m have been a little lazy about it, but i´m already working on it.

@lurk&jerk, you are right, i had trouble installing a network printer because of this service too. Next version it will be set to auto.

@Chrysalis, yeah, this shouldnt be like that. Gonna fix that as soon as i get home.

thanks to all.

Hi,

I believe this is a new one... biggrin.gif

CODE
;Set Calculator To Scientific Mode
     [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\SciCalc]
     "layout"="0"

Enjoy,

Will
Camarade_Tux
Calculator is set in win.ini afaik.

Or maybe too. But monitoring the register, I had nothing changed and in my µA install, I change win.ini and it works.
Sgt_Strider
What does this service do?

CODE
; Indexing Service
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\CiSvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004

and this?

CODE
; Windows Audio Service
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\AudioSrv]
"Start"=dword:00000002

and this?
CODE
; Windows Time Service

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time]
"Start"=dword:00000004

Does this service disable all removeable storage support like USB flash drives?

CODE
; Removable Storage Service
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NtmsSvc]
"Start"=dword:00000004
DL.
@Sgt_Strider:
Indexing: Speeds up searching by indexing files, see this link.

Windows Audio: Provides and controls all audio support for Windows, see this one.

Windows Time: Syncronizes the system time with a timeserver.

Removable Storage: No it doesn't, may however affect tape drives or others.

Read some more on the subject of services for example here, or search.

No offence, but you really need to start searching for the info before asking in the forums.

Thank for making this.

Just wanted you to know that about half way threw the other software reg file you switch from english to portugese or spanish. I'm sure i can translate it back so no big problem for me however i thought you'd might like to know.

Just an observation:

In the readme, it says that Windows Management Instrumentation Driver Extension is one of the vital services that should be set to automatic, or at worst, manual. In my experience, that service is not only not vital, it's completely useless and can be safely disabled.

I've left it disabled on (at least) 500 systems over the years that ranged from domain/web/file/print servers to all types of workstations. Never had anything even try to access it, much less any problems from disabling it. Since it doesn't seem to frivolously start, leaving it on manual is probably safer than disabling it, but I'm somewhat of a control freak, so I just really like seeing all that MS crap with "Disabled" next to it and know, at least on some level, *I* still control my box, not Microsoft. smile.gif

I've seen it once started on Win2000 when a driver was missing. What does it REALLY do, I don't know.

Are you sure about deleting Special Accounts? I was told they are needed

@phaolo: I haven't had any problems after deleting the "special accounts", and I always do that...
