Thanks to everyone at this website that gave examples of AUTOUNATTEND.XMLs. They helped alot. I decided to help others that may be having a rough time getting started, just like I was.

The way I've setup my AUTOUNATTEND.XMLs is to bring up the selection screen, then the partition screen. These choices are necessary to me, for different situations of use. The rest of, (most of), the stuff in the unattended install, can be changed after installation.

Here's an example of my AUTOUNATTEND.XML for Vista Ultimate, for 32 bit, (fully working). Use it all, or whatever you need for yours.

The very last line in setup.cfg gives the cd key to bring up the default image selection. This cd key will also work to give Vista 30 days, before you need to activate.

If you use a paid for CD key in the answer file, you will get only one selection on that first screen, (in the examples I gave).

The one in setup.cfg for Server 2008 gives it 60 days, before you need to activate.

This is true for all retail CDs from M.S. and even the trial .iso versions of Server 2008 you can download from their website.

It's probably true for the Service Pack versions, you can buy of Vista from M.S. Price is your legit CD key, and a shipping and handling fee. I don't know for sure though, I haven't got mine, in the mail yet, (I ordered the 32 bit and 64 bit Service Pack versions of Vista Ultimate, for around $20).

I removed the number, (use the one M.S. gives everyone!). Removng it should satisfy the "spooks", (FBI wanna bee excrement talkers), that websites like this one are full of.

I use the above referenced CD keys to bring up the full selection screen in the unattended installs. The same cd key, (like explained above), works for 32 or 64 bit versions of Vista. The CD key for Server 2008 versions work for 32 or 64 bit versions of Server 2008 also. So just use the one you have on your CD or .iso, and yours will work, (I'm talking retail and current .iso trial versions here, not RC1, etc., etc.).

I enter my paid for cd key for Vista Ultimate, or Server 2008, to activate. The 30 days or 60 days make it easier to setup everything, then activate when I feel like it, but before the time is up.

That's what I need to do next also. So I don't really have a good answer, (basically I'm saying duh, I don't know). There is a section on it, in the Vista unattended Guide, that is a sticky at the top of this part of the forum. I just glanced through it, and haven't really had the time, to get into it yet, (real life has me pretty busy right now).

Easier way than Creating an Answer file with WSIM... ???

Anyway; I think like in XP, "$OEM$" path is the best option for copying files without using any other commands; and the reg tweaks are already on target system nicely placed for us to execute them whiever way we want... Same thing for application installers... Just place them in OEM folder and execute command and after installation keep or delete...
