Aaron
Since recent threads have got cluttered with requests, I've decided to make a new thread for Application Switches only. Please keep in mind that any requests will be DELETED. So, contributions only please, which will then be added to the main list. cool.gif I would like to thank aitf311 and ViRuS2k for compiling most of the switches together.

I've made a VBScript for a silent install of NeroLanguage Pack:

CODE
Set WshShell = WScript.CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
WshShell.Run (".\NLLangPackNero6300.exe")
WScript.Sleep 5000
WshShell.SendKeys "~"
WScript.Sleep 1000
WshShell.SendKeys "{TAB}"

or just download it:

EDIT 2: (04-04-26), OR I've overlooked it, OR it's been recently added: Nero Language packs also work with the same switch that needs to be used for Nero Burning Rom:

I have a correction. In the first post it lists the following for the Google Toolbar:

Google Toolbar

Switch: /s /qn
Full syntax: GoogleToolbarInstaller.exe /s /qn
Extraction needed: ?

Unfortunately that did not work for me. So I emailed Google and they responded back with the following:

Google Toolbar

Switch: /d /q
Full syntax: GoogleToolbarInstaller.exe /q /d
Extraction needed: No
Notes: /d will install the toolbar without it's advanced features and is optional. [EDIT] CASE IS VERY IMPORTANT! blushing.gif I tried it with /Q /D and it did not work. With /q /d it worked great.

I hope this helps people out.

Thanks go out to the Google Toolbar team which responded back to my request very quickly.

Sorry this ended up in the wrong place 1st time.

FreshUI is not very popular compared to TweakUI, but it is still useful at times.
The good news for those working on silent application installations for use on unattended XP CDs is that it can be run as a silent install.

Setup file type: Inno Setup

Switch: /silent

CODE
ECHO.
ECHO Installing FreshUI 6.80
ECHO Please wait...
start /wait %systemdrive%\install\freshdevices\frui.exe /silent

You can download the installation file (744Kb) from the FreshUI download page.

Note: You can use the same switch on the other common FreshDevices applications such as FreshDiagnose and FreshDownload.

when i install the k-lite codec pack using runonceex using the same switch as the quicktime and real alternatives (i think: /VERYSILENT /-SP not sure off hand) it installs ok but i get an error about can't delete a codec with the name iac25_32.ax, is this a known problem and has anyone else had this?

edit: sorted, using just /verysilent and running it above most programs seems to do the trick.
djallredGA
If anybody cares (I did so someone else might) here is the way to install MS Money 2004 on winXP (code from RunOnceEx.cmd):

CODE
REG ADD %KEY%\026 /VE /D "Microsoft Money 2004" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\026 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\Money\syspack.msi /qn" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\026 /V 2 /D "%systemdrive%\install\Applications\Money\money.msi /qn BOOTSTRAPPERLAUNCH=yes" /f

The BOOTSTRAPPERLAUNCH=yes parameter is key to running the MSI file directly, instead of trying to use the setup.exe. The syspack needs to be installed first though, hence the order above.
OldMan
For deamon tools....have you tried using the switch:

CODE
Reboot=Supress

If you notice, supress has only one "p" and not two. Worked for me on my Personal Firewall.

aresgodofwar
umm...aaronxp, i tried the /qn switch for nsw 2003, but it didn't work. kept giving me errors. /qb worked however.

edit: correction, the /qn reboot=suppress was giving errors. /qn or /qb used by themselves works.

Avast! Professional v4.1
http://www.avast.com/i_idt_152.html

QUOTE
Creating silent installation of avast! program

This option, intended especially for network administrators, makes it possible (and easy) to install avast! on an arbitrary number of computers, without any interference from the users. The installation may contain predefined settings of the program and tasks.

To create the silent installation:

Install avast! on one computer.
Modify the avast! settings exactly as you want them to be on the other computers.
Set the parameters of the tasks (as you want them).
If you wish, set the password to access the resident protection settings (and termination).
In the Enhanced User Interface, select File ® Create Silent Installation.
Set the parameters of the silent installation:
Silent mode - During the installation on the target computers, only error messages will be displayed.
Very silent mode - During the installation on the target computers, no messages will be displayed.
Installation path - Enter the folder to install avast! to (by default, %PRGFILES%\Alwil Software\Avast4).
No reboot - avast! requires the computer to be restarted after the installation. If you select this option, the reboot will not be requested.
Ask for reboot - When the installation is finished, the user will be asked to reboot.
If neither No reboot nor Ask for reboot is checked, the system will be restarted automatically when the installation is finished.
Click the Create button.
Select the folder to store the files necessary for the silent installation.
The following two files will be written to the selected folder: admin.ini and tasks.xml. The file admin.ini contains the settings of the avast! program, the file tasks.xml contains the settings of the particular tasks. If the password for resident protection settings was set, there will be another file in the target folder: aswResp.dat; it contains the encrypted password to access the resident protection settings and termination.
Put these two or three files into a shared folder.
Put the avast! installer into the same folder.
On the target computers, start the avast! installation from this folder.

Update of the method for installing Nero 6
START :
u need the both exe nero6xxxx.exe and nero6xxxx_<lng>.exe
with winrar, u extract the both files in 2 folders like that
<yourpath>\nero
<yourpath>\nero_lng
u pick up the setup.exe form the first path and u copy it in the second path
(to erase the setup.exe for the language wich is not really cool for silent install)
--------------------------------------------------------------------
then you can use two methods to install the 2 packages
1st method :
use the following commands:
update the registry with a regfile containing the key see in
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ahead\Nero - Burning Rom\Info]
and then :
nero\setup.exe /silent /noreboot
nero_lng\setup.exe /silent

2nd method :
repack the to setup files with winrar to make 2 sfx exe (both with the same setup.exe form 0)

I have tried using the /qb and /qn switches niether one worked,but the /qr switch does.
The /qr switch is used for a reduced interface. The reduced interface show a large status disply of the install but does not ask for any input.

SETUP.EXE /s /v"/qr REBOOT=Suppress REBOOTPROMPT=S"

To have your system reboot automaticaly after the install completes change REBOOT=Suppress to REBOOT=FORCE

The REBOOTPROMPT=S removes the reboot promt when the installation finishes

ACDSeeSystems MSI type installs via Cmd Line: Custom Actions after /QN

License Key PARAMETER for all ACDSee MSI products:
SLL_LICENSENUMBER=XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX

Need to suppress a reboot? If yes,
REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS

Do we want to register the proggy with a name? If yes,
USERNAME=YOURNAME or USERNAME="Your Name"

CMD Line / Batch Examples
ACDSee 5.0.1 is in a folder @ C:\SilentSetups\ACDSee 5.0.1 Standard.msi. We do not want to enter a USERNAME (FYI: COMPANYNAME is a valid parameter for those who need it). However, we do want to register and suppress a reboot to let other installs follow.

Microsoft Proper (recommended):
msiexec.exe /I "C:\SilentSetups\ACDSee 5.0 Standard.msi" /QN SLL_LICENSENUMBER=XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS

This also works (we will add our name & do a PowerPack install of v6.0.2):
"C:\SilentSetups\ACDSee 6.0.2 PowerPack.msi" /QN USERNAME="IrfanView Is Free" SLL_LICENSENUMBER=XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS

Easily Overlooked:
1. Quotes are needed if a parameter's value has spaces. (See above, USERNAME=).
2. PARAMETER=VALUE , not PARAMETER = VALUE. (No spaces!)

Installling a setup.exe? Use:
<path>setup.exe /s /v"/qn PARAMETER=VALUE PARAMETER=VALUE" (We are passing parameters to msi bundled in an exe so make sure /v"/qn does not become /v "/qn

Example: ACD mPower Tools 1.0.2.exe - Silent, UserName, License, Suppress Reboot
"C:\SilentSetups\ACD mPower Tools 1.0.2.exe" /s /v"/qn USERNAME="Why does ACDSee's DB always freeze?" SLL_LICENSENUMBER=XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-XXX REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS"

**Note** ACDSEE will install per user. Adding ALLUSERS=1 parameter will make ACDSee programs available for all users of a computer.

K-Lite Codecs Packs

I browsed recently to website of K-Lite Codecs Pack. Besides of new versions I found in Tips & Tricks nice info about unattended install:
There's also list of components included in each codecs pack, I didn't copy this as it would mess the whole message :-)

QUOTE
Guide for creating a custom silent installation for one of the codec packs

STEP 1: Create a file called silent.inf with the following contents:

[Setup]
Lang=en
Dir=C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack
Group=K-Lite Codec Pack
NoIcons=0
Components=mpclassic, divxdec, divx, xviddec, xvid, 3ivxdec, 3ivx, wmv, mpeg2, vp3, vp6dec, vp6, dvd, indeo, indeo4, indeo32, huffyuv, msmpeg4, mp3audio, wmaaudio, ac3audio, oggvorbis, aac, musepack, voxware, ape, mp3lame, oggvorbissplitter, matroska, vsfilter, matrixmixer, shoutcast, gspot, fourcc, minicalc, disg400, disffdshow

Dir is the path of the destination folder. If you leave out this line, then it will install into the default folder.
Group is the name of the program group that will be created in your startmenu. If you leave out this line, then it will use the default groupname.
When you set NoIcons to 1, then no group will be created in your startmenu.
Components is a comma-separated list of the components that you want to be installed. If you leave out this line, then it will use the default settings for the components list.

Note: The reason why the settings.inf file is used is because command line calls are limited to 256 characters. And because of the long components list that will lead to problems when you include the components parameter in the command line call.

STEP 2: Put the silent.inf file in the same folder as the installer

STEP 3: Now you can perform a silent installation with the following command line call:
INSTALLERFILENAME /verysilent /loadinf=".\silent.inf"

List of component names for the various packages

Note: this list is based on the latest versions of the packs.

Total Commander 6.01
  • Download the installer.
  • Using Total Commander itself, open the installer using CTRL+PGDN
  • Copy install.inf to the other pane using F5. You could also use your favorite packer program like winzip, winrar,... but why bother if you have TC? thumbup.gif
  • Edit install.inf as follows:
CODE
[auto]
auto=1
lang=1
alllang=1
iniloc=c:\totalcmd
iniall=1
mkgroup=1
mkdesktop=1
  • See the section [Languages] to know your language number. If you are reading this forum, you are smart enough to figure out the rest of the file.
  • Put install.inf back in the installer (copy it back using F5).
  • To do an unattended installation, just run the modified installer.
  • If you are a registered user, copy the file wincmd.key in the installation folder.

Thought I'd add this, as in my searching I've not seen it...

When installing Futuremark's PCMark 2004 app, you need to have both Windows Media Player 9, and Media Encoder 9 installed first.

I've seen the switches for WMP9 in here (but not the Media Encoder), and tried them on the Media Encoder. Worked perfectly.

So....

Switch: /Q:A /R:N
Full syntax: WMencoder.exe /Q:A /R:N

NOTES;

I noticed it worked correctly and didn't require me to enter my name/serial when I put the registration entry before the install entry in the .cmd file.

The info in the registration.reg file I copied from my current Registry files from my original standard install of Homesite 5. Install yours normally, and copy this (your) info from your Registry afterwards for use in the Unattended CD.

My install folder for Homesite 5 (on the XP cd) is 14.4 MB.

Tested and works. thumbup.gif

UltraEdit32

QUOTE (http://www.ultraedit.com/downloads/uemanual.pdf)
Silent Installation

Installation of UltraEdit is normally performed by executing the uesetup.exe without any parameters. This leads the user through the installation allowing the user to select the appropriate location and options.
When this is done, a file install.sss is created.
In some cases it may be desired to perform a silent installation of UltraEdit to allow automated unattended installations. This is possible with the following setting:
uesetup /s
Under normal circumstances this will perform a silent install with the default settings. Any files that would be required to be downloaded from the WWW normally should be downloaded and in the same directory as the uesetup.exe file to avoid prompting for WWW download.
To customize a silent install, run the uesetup normally selecting the appropriate install options. After this has been completed, copy the install.sss that is created to the directory containing the uesetup.exe and rename it to uesetup.sss any future silent installs will use this file to specify the install options.

Settings are stored in those files (so backup them):
C:\windows\UEDIT32
C:\windows\UEDIT32.INI
<ProgramFiles>\UltraEdit\uedit32.reg

QUOTE
1.3 Installation & Uninstallation
To install FastFolders, simply run "FFSetup.exe". The Setup program will guide you through all necessary steps. If you want to remove FastFolders from your computer, select "Uninstall" from the FastFolders program group or use "Add/Remove Software" in the Windows Control Panel.

Unattended setup: if you want to install FastFolders automatically, without user interface, please include the installation path as a command line parameter. Also, any file included in the command line will be copied to the installation path by the setup program. Here is an example:

FFSetup.exe "C:\Program Files\FastFolders" License.dlc

This command line will install FastFolders to the default installation path and copy the license file "License.dlc" to the installation path. "License.dlc" must be in the same folder as "FFSetup.exe" so that the setup program can find it.

After unattended setup, a text file "FFSetup.log" will be created. It contains the result of the installation.

Avant Browser

I have discovered a clover way of silent installing Avant Browser (any version). You can do the .vbs install or do this:

1. Install Avant Browser on a working install of Windows.
2. Go to %systemdrive%\Program Files\Avant Browser\ or where you installed Avant Browser.
3. Copy the contents of the folder to a folder called Avant Browser in your $Progs folder if you are using the $OEM$ method.
4. Copy the shortcut leading to %systemdrive%\Program Files\Avant Browser\iexplore.exe to your start menu folders.
5. When you slient install XP, Avant Browser will automatically be copied over.

Avant Browser WILL WORK this way. I tested it and it works without using the installer.

What's more! See in Lang folder. Delete any languages you don't think you'll need. I've deleted all but the English one. Still works! Avant didn't complain. yes.gif

Available switches for Spybot S&D 1.2 -- looked around the forum and couldn't find any so I found these @ appdeploy.com

Spybot S&D 1.2 switches -- here is link to the page

Here is a list of command line parameters that the Spybot-S&D main executable (spybotsd.exe) supports:

/taskbarhide
Runs Spybot-S&D completely hidden (no window, no taskbar icon), so make absolutely sure you use it only in combination with /autoclose (otherwise it would remain in memory sitting idle). Useful only in combination with /autocheck, /autoupdate or /autoimmunize, as it cannot be controlled when completely invisible.
/minimized
Starts the window minimized.
/uninstall
Uninstalls Spybot-S&D. This command line parameter is very outdated - unins00.exe should be used instead!
/blinduser
Starts with support for blind users (special menus).
/autoupdate
Does an update after starting the program.
/autocheck
Starts scanning immediately.
/autofix
Fixes problems after scan.
/autoclose
Closes program after it has scanned or updated.
/autoimmunize
Runs the immunization at program start.
/onlyspyware
Fixes only spyware (red) entries with /autofix, leaving all usage tracks as they are.
/easymode
Starts with easier interface for newbies.
And here is a list of command line parameters that the Spybot-S&D installer (spybotsd12.exe) supports:

/silent
Will display the progress during installation, but not the wizard.
/verysilent
Even the progress will not be shown. Errors etc. would still be shown.
/nocancel
Disables the Cancel and Close button. Useful with /silent.
/dir="x:\dirname"
Installs into that directory instead of the default one.
/group="folder name"
Installs into a program group of that name instead of the default one.
/noicons
Avoids creation of any icons for the installed softwae.
/components="comma separated list of component names"
Installs the given components instead of the default ones. Components are main, blind (icons for blind users), language (all language files) and skins.

GOOGLE TOOLBAR

Hi, i've been working on a way to install Google toolbar along with my hotfixes.

I've tried many things and i found that the google toolbar was only a dll. So i used Iexpress and created a .exe.

In the command line, i put: regsvr32 -s -i thenameofthedll.dll

I put the usual options and it works.

Since my hotfixes come when i'm able to use commands from my Os, i found that this method was the better one since i've tried to put switches on the original file and it didn't work as i wished.

Tell me what you think ?

While looking for switches for irfanview I found the following in the irfanview FAQ:
QUOTE
Q: I am an administrator. How can I silent install/uninstall IrfanView?
A: Usually, you can download the ZIP version of IrfanView and Plugins and deploy the files.

Self install versions have special start options for silent install (example, version 3.90):
1) IrfanView:

iview390.exe /silent /folder="c:\test folder\irfanview" /desktop=1 /group=1 /allusers=0 /assoc=1

Options:
folder: destination folder; if not indicated: old IrfanView folder is used, if not found: "Program Files" folder used
desktop: create desktop shortcut; 0 = no, 1 = yes
group: create group in Start menu; 0 = no, 1 = yes

allusers: desktop/group links are for all users; 0 = current user, 1 = all users
assoc: set file associations; 1 = images only, 2 = select all

2) PlugIns:
all_plugins.exe /silent

3) Uninstall:
iv_uninstall.exe /silent

These options were introduced with the latest 3.90 version.

It did the trick for me and i hope other people can benefit from this information thumbup.gif
