I'd prepared bootable USB flash drive with Windows XP using USB_MultiBoot.cmd according to these instructions (Steps 1, 2 and 3). thumbup.gif

It works perfectly on some boxes (Samsung laptop, HP dx2400 PC) and doesn't work at all on some HP laptops (HP 2140 Mini-Note, HP nx9420 laptop, HP nx6125 laptop). I cannot boot this USB drive no matter the BIOS settings. I tried all possible combinations. At the same time I was able to boot USB drives with Hiren's Boot CD or USB Reanimator on these HP laptops. I've tried different USB drives (Lexar, HP, Samsung). I've updated BIOS FW on all laptops. Nothing helped wacko.gif

Does anyone had similar issues?
Any workaround?

What exactly happens when you boot on them? Freezes on black screen or blinking cursor? Boots the internal disk? What exactly?
How large is the USB stick? What tool did you use to format it? In what file system?
Do you copy anything to the USB stick, before launching USB_multiboot? Do not, do it afterward.

The most strange that it works on HP Desktop and Samsung laptop...

Didi you try the "usual" troubleshooting steps, using other filesystems?

FAQ #10:
http://home.graffiti.net/jaclaz:graffiti.n...SB/USBfaqs.html

Try using the newish app by wimb:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...5306&st=196

and/or the one by steve6375:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=7739

IF nothing of the above works:

Choose one, and only one of your sticks.

Get Hdhacker and save the MBR (first sector of PhysicalDrive) and bootsector (first 16 sectors of Logicaldrive if NTFS, just one if FAT16 or FAT32):

Compress the two files together and attach the archive.

Story reminds to: some HP BIOS dislike grub4dos MBR.

Do you use a grub4dos MBR?

Owww realmad.gif , comeon, you should have learned by now that we are not (yet newwink.gif) mind readers and that the stoopid crystal ball tuning guys are simply a bunch of incompetent and lazy bastards!

WHAT woot.gif have you used to partition/format the stick?
With which settings?
Which Filesystem?
Which MBR?

In the meantime, all I can give you is my standard reply #32 :

So you managed to double post AND revive unneededly a thread marked as [SOLVED] AND completely failed to read the present thread. realmad.gif

The whole point is that the HP USB format tool in some configuration DOES NOT WORK properly, and that ANOTHER tool needs to be tested in such cases.

More generally, the use of the HP USB format tool is currently deprecated EXACTLY because it is subject to failures on some hardware.

Now, be kind, take your time and READ:
http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=9460

Particularly, READ the whole thread by Fuwi:

ALREADY linked to by cdob previously.
