I saw this on a different forum, about something else entirley, and thought it would apply here too.

What would you define as the "line" that needs to be crossed?
Tinker
What is done on another board that I use is they keep you from getting an Avatar until you have a post count of 100. Of course by doing this you have to watch out for the SPAM poster just to get to a 100. But we need to define "n00b" first and then decide.

A n00b is person without his own personal unattended CD biggrin.gif

A n00b as person that doesn't know how to install an os. and/or build their own system.

I agree with the above statements, being a n00b cannot be decided by post count. Alot of very intelligent people here have low post counts, and I believe it is due to the fact that some questions and/or posts are not fit to be responded to, people are still trying to figure out how to read and use google I guess.

a n00b stops being a n00b when they stop replying to threads saying "I don't know, maybe someone else will help you!!111". tongue.gif

(that's just plain annoying btw!)

Me a n00b............ cool.gif

Depending on the definition of n00b post count can be used. However I tend to agree it is not one of the best ways to go about it.

I think that this would have to be left up to the user themselves to decide if whether they are an experienced computer user !! smile.gif
FthrJACK
its only a joke vis!

wouldnt be right picking on newbies being the site we are. a n00b is different from a newbie also dont forget.

ones an annoying pain, the other just hasnt learned something yet.
Visentinel
Heh smile.gif

We were all noobs at once smile.gif

but i find knowing alot rather boring, coz once you learn something completely, theres nothing else to learn about it sad.gif.

Like STarcraft, that was great, but once i reached the pinnacle of skill in it, it got boring sad.gif

n00b is annoying person who doesent care about his actions and how they affect others, he constant seeks attention and asks annoying questions over and over.

a newbie is just someone who hasnt learned something yet and needs a few pointers, they have a brain and can figure things out for themselves still.

there is a difference!

**** i thought they both meant the same thing...

I guess I am newbie when it comes to diferentiating n00b and newbie...

A newbie is someone that only knows how to use the internet but has 20 coaster cd's trying to make unattended cd, slipstreams, and multi os cd's....but at least they are trying...

a n00b, i really dont know. whatever annoys you makes the other person a n00b tongue.gif

JARGON FILE IS THE ANSWER!!!

n00b a.k.a noob a.k.a newbies is:

newbie: /n[y]oo´bee/, n.

[very common; orig. from British public-school and military slang variant of ‘new boy’]

A Usenet neophyte. This term surfaced in the newsgroup talk.bizarre but is now in wide use (the combination “clueless newbie” is especially common). Criteria for being considered a newbie vary wildly; a person can be called a newbie in one newsgroup while remaining a respected regular in another. The label newbie is sometimes applied as a serious insult to a person who has been around Usenet for a long time but who carefully hides all evidence of having a clue. See B1FF; see also gnubie. Compare chainik, luser.

You might wanna change usenet to www-based boards..

Just my 2 cent's

This is not a straight forward answer to the question mentioned but HEY! Don't make it too simple either woot.gif
