This was know a couple of months back, but the UK gov is trailing open source software with IBM.

This could be used in 6 areas of gov included the NHS.
Microsoft is not happy about this, the license deal it has with the gov is worth something extortionate like $6B a year!

The hope is the gov will either go for the much more economic open source solution or the worried european MS folk will be forced to try a desperately reduced license deal.

Anything that saves the country money must be investigated, I mean, we've got wars to finance here, space programs to bugger up... newwink.gif Personally, I think that will be the biggest impact open source has - not so much taking over from microsoft, but making ms cut their often extotionate licencing prices, simply by providing lower-priced competition and breaking the strangleghold. Unless...
