I'm banging my head against the wall trying to figure this one out:

The WindowsPE.CHM in the section "Commands in the Startnet.cmd File" tell me that the following commands are in the default Startnet.cmd:

regsvr32 /s netcfgx.dll
factory -minint
netcfg -v -winpe
net start dhcp
net start nla
a:\floppy.cmd


Yet when I boot from the WinPE CD using this in my startnet.cmd I get the following error:

"Trying to install ms_tcpip....
... done.
Trying to install ms_netbios ...
... done.
Trying to install ms_msclient ...
... done.
System error 1083 has occurred.
The executable program that this service is configured to run in does not implement the service.

The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service is starting.
The Network Location Awareness (NLA) service was started successfully."

So the problem is with the command "net start dhcp" which gives the same error when you try to run it from the winpe command prompt.

What's the trick to getting DHCP to work?

I have a winbom.ini that looks like this:

[Factory]
Reseal=No
WinBOMType=WinPE

[WinPE]
Restart=None

[WinPE.NET]
IPCONFIG=DHCP
Startnet=Yes

[PNPDriverUpdate]
WaitForPnP=Yes

I know this sounds dumb but have you recopied your files from your OPK cd and then rebuilt your ISO?

Is this what you mean:

I copied them from the OPK CD to a share on ServerA originally, I moved them to Workstation B and then recreated the ISO from Workstation B. I've actually recreated the ISO about 10 times (I'm making a lot of CD Coasters at this point.....)

The process I'm following is this:

Edit startnet.cmd or winbom.ini from winpebuild directory.
run mkimg.cmd Y: d:\winpe.x86
once that is done, run
oscdimg.exe -b.\etfsboot.com -n d:\winpe.x86 d:\test\winpex86.iso and then I burn the resulting ISO to a CD.

I am not to familiar with this error, the only thing I can think of is use a generice winbom.ini and try it that way to see if it starts with the generic winbom.ini, then one by one add your commands to your winbom and see which one is mussing it up. Have you tried the OEM news groups SBST is reallt great there, if you message soon you will get a response today.

Edit: Also get A virtual PC or VMware.

Doh! I hadn't even thought of using Virtual PC for the ISO. Thanks.... this will save me a ton of time (and CDs....)

Thanks - one last question. Will both the OPK CD and the 1.1 version of PE work with a Slipstreamed XP Pro SP1 CD or do I need to use a non-slipstreamed XP Pro CD?

Other than that I don't know if it will work, give it a try, I know 1.2 works with SP2 that is how I built my recovery CD, so give it a shot.

When I attempt to go to the news groups you referenced it's asking for a Secure Code provided by a Site Administrator. I'm not actually an OEM so I don't know what this is referring to. I'm assuming this is a private forum?
