Wow, many thanks to Data0002 we almost doubled our work units.

Data0002, how many machines u have are running seti? What are their average times? I'm a one machine man and I average 7 hours. Do you think if I set it as a service it might be quicker?
data0002
Hi thanks for that, i run seti from 8 PC's at work all running as a service so one one at work can stop seti all linked to setiqueue no my pc. i norm do 20-25 work units per day. each pc is a compaq en sff p3-650 running winxp sp1

Welcome to our little seti group!!! Awesome crunching.... btw, as a matter of interest, are you using the seti@home GUI client or something else?

Thanks Data0002 for the info. Seti Queue.

That's a good way to use up downtime in computers. Usually with the usual stuff people do at work they wouldn't notice SETI@Home running in the background. Anyway it is set to lowest priority so cpu time is always given up when another program needs it. I have now set my seti as a service so I don't have to worry about it. cool.gif

@Data0002 - No worries mate, you've more than made up for it. biggrin.gif

As we all know we get most of our work units from the radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory at Puerto Rico. I haven't been there but I found the Visitor Center webpage. It has a map of the area and some photos. Those planning for a visit can check out the Visiting Hours too. Scientific users can check out here too.

I thought about the 1997 movie Contact, starring Jodie Foster, the other day and visited its Official Site. It has quite interesting external links. There's one that tells about the message we sent to space.

OK guys, guess what's the building (shed) in the picture? Yes it's something to do with SETI. Answer forthcoming. Definitely no prizes for correct guesses. biggrin.gif
leeleeleelee
Here's a clue. There's something in the building that is special to SETI. Here's a quote from the webpage.
QUOTE (from the webpage)
High on a wooded ridge in Massachusetts an odd-looking structure has sprung up over the past two years. Appearing from a distance like a small work shed, a closer inspection reveals some unusual features, including a retractable roof and a large side window with a sliding screen. A look inside is even more puzzling, for there, bolted to the ground, one finds a large elongated object, made of metal bars and mirrors. This strange object, that looks like nothing at all, represents one of the most ambitious SETI projects ever undertaken: an....

What's that object? Its acronym is OT.

Outhouse Toilet - now that's very observant. I like it. biggrin.gif

Congratulations FthrJACK, it's a 72" Optical Telescope.

SETI has four of these. They are sponsored by the Planetary Society. You can read all bout it here.

Life on Mars?

Water on Mars?

QUOTE (from Space.com)
Unusual gullies and channels within Newton Basin on Mars. Some scientists hypothesize that liquid water burst out here from underground Mars, eroded the gullies, and pooled at the bottom as it froze and evaporated. If so, life-sustaining ice and water might exist even today below the Martian surface. Ponded standing water is ideal spot to look for significant sedimentary rocks and fossils. Hi MadGutts

I use Seti Command-line Client on 8 P3 P.C.'s whick link to SetiQueue, as a seti server for all the workunits & i also use Setiteam to keep an eye on the stats.

MadGutts,
If you're looking for the SetiTeam program, I found one location here.
QUOTE (Brief Description)
Q: What is / Where can I find SetiTEAM? (#4879)

A: SetiTEAM is a free windows program which allows people to track and compare the number of work units being completed by members of the SETI@Home community.

SetiTEAM works by analysing tables of results produced by the project servers at http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/
These can be saved and compared to show or predict changes of rankings.

      SetiTEAM can be found here.
There's a real easy fix to get our stats from SetiTEAM. Right-click in the program and go to Internet Settings. Then change the default path to setiathome2.ssl.berkeley.edu/fcgi-bin/fcgi in the internet settings.

Further details and the SetiTEAM program can be found here.

Be sure to type in the current team name next to the update button (BroadbandReports.com Team Starfire).

For internet settings, follow as above.
For team name use ours - MSFN.ORG

if i would join the MSFN Seti@Home group, i would be an instant 3rd place. but i don't join, because i'm already joined at Seti@Netherlands
leeleeleelee
MadGutts,

I am sorry I misunderstand you for so long. sad.gif And I still don't know exactly what you're after. Here's a rundown of what I do to post the update.

1) I run a program called SetiTEAM.exe. There is a link to this program in this page.

2) I click the update button on the program window. It collects the stats of the team and opens another window that looks exactly like the one I post.

3) I press Alt+Print Screen. This would copy that window onto the clipboard.

4) I open IrfanView program. This can be downloaded from here. I press Ctrl+V to paste the screenshot onto IrfanView. I save it.

5) I then log in to my image host server, delete the current image on the server and upload the new image.

6) I make a reply to this thread to bump this thread up.

This may sound silly, but I hope you'll find what you're looking for somewhere in what I have written. Let us know.

eagle00789,

What matters most is that you are already running SETI@Home and making full use of your computer. thumbup.gif
