Apparently Hotmail is going to offer Terabyte storage.
sven
holy crap, thats alot of storage. does this mean te'll upgrade the free hotmail size?
CDog
Doubt it - remember Hotmail charge a monthly fee for 20mb storage space from the free 2mb you get. The amount they charge for that, a Hotmail terabyte service would cost an arm and a leg; and then some...
trev
Hotmail is indeed jelous of google having a 1GB e-mail account, lol! IF the terabyte hotmail is free, I would sign up for that one for sure!

Microsoft has recently committed itself to purchasing 35 million terabytes of server storage, enough to give each and every Hotmail user 1 Terabyte of storage.

That's only a ratio made from a fact. It does not mean Hotmail is offering Terabyte service, it means they are buying storage space:rolleyes:

Every above me must be kidding, because this was confirmed an April Fools joke. laugh.gif

According to people working on the Hotmail service, Microsoft has recently committed itself to purchasing 35 million terabytes of server storage, enough to give each and every Hotmail user 1 Terabyte of storage.

According to computer science experts, this would allow for 500 million mail messages. This is enough to have approximately 2700 new messages a day, every day, for 500 years.

When asked why any user would need 1 terabyte of storage, Microsoft's Chief Software Architect Bill Gates said "It's 1000 times more than Google. That's why."
Doggie
google mail gigabyte service is infact true statement.. hotmail would be indeed false tongue.gif
trev
How do you know? No one found any proof that hotmail is lying. IF hotmail is offering 1TB of space, I think they would make it free. All we know is that google mail is definately true!

It's just logical to conclude it's a hoax. Step back, calm down, and take a good look at that article. The sarcasm is obvious as seen here:

And the final point to note: Name 1 service, anywhere, that offers anything in the form of 1 terabyte. Most average users don't even know what a terabyte is newwink.gif

lol true laugh.gif
i was reading it quickly i'm like ow okay 1TB server space.
but 35 million terabytes what the heck is that?????
what kind of storage is that
how many hdd tape whatever do they use for that?
i mean that's like 30 exabyte's which i have never seen (well i didn't even get to see a terabyte biggrin.gif )
trev
After all that, the hotmail terabyte service is all a joke. That was disappointing sad.gif .
XtremeMaC
well google's don't seem to be true as of yet as well
they just offer it to some ppl as its in beta!
who the heck will use 1tb mail storage. maybe a few but if i were them i'd buy 1 tb or something less and be able to organize it.
i mean 1 tb on server. slow connection. ****! u cannot even load the **** page that contains millions of emails biggrin.gif
trev
Google mail is definately true, as you can see the website of it, and they are in the process of making it.

Maybe people e-mailing alot will use the 1TB mail storage. Since we have chat lines/instant messenging programs, I don't think people will use e-mail that much now.
Datalore
The only people that could benefit from 1 TB of email storage would be spammers.
trev
That's true.

i agree, how can i use 2 mb of storage, thats not even enought to send a good quality picture if the other guys account is half full! i tihnk i might give up on hotmail and go google.
XtremeMaC
i suggest pop accounts smile.gif
of course it won't really work if u dl the emails to your computer and at a later time say u want to look at an email on a friends comp and u can't so actually google might work
pimp_gimp
How long is this gonna last......1 Terabyte or even 1 Gigabyte of server space for 1 patron of that mail service would cost an arm and a leg for that company to keep up....so if this all does go through I really doubt it will last long (remembering back when hotmail had the free 20mb storage limits)
CuBie
gmail is gonna rock, i dont know why, but i get the feeling that i would seem to trust google with my mail, more than microsoft.

/me cant wait for google mail

Chris smile.gif.
trev
I can't wait too! When is Gmail gonna be finished?
DoS
I have no idea, but I already got 2 mails from them of bugs fixed, as soon that all of them (I didn't find any more) are fixed, it'll be officially opened.
