just saw this mentioned on another forum and thought some people might be intrested in trying it out.
http://www.xfire.com/ - See WHEN your friends are playing online games
- See WHAT game they are playing
- See WHERE they are playing
- And JOIN their game with just one click!
- Plus, unlike existing Instant Messengers, Xfire lets you receive IM's without disrupting your game!

I love xfire. It's SO useful to find which server my clan is playing in, especially with games like Battlefield Vietnam that have a bulky search function.

personally ive used skype for this,
http://www.skype.com/ because I can do conference voice chats. Anyone know how this program compares?
I did see a nice nVidia skin for x-fire before on deviantart though.
[EDIT] Does this support LAN games, voice chat, conference?

X-Fire causes problems with your LSP files.

lsp?

(networking) label switched path - (LSP) The specific path through a network that a datagram follows, based on its MPLS labels.
DefinitionThis deals with Winsock.
Here's the common problem X-Fire causes.
O10 - Broken Internet access because of LSP provider 'xfire_lsp_7651.dll' missing

Tarun is right, but i still use Xfire lol.
even with the LSP problem, i haven't noticed anything wrong since i've used Xfire.

This can be fixed using LSPFix. I believe it will automatically appear under the
Remove section. If it does not, you check off "I know what I'm doing" and select ONLY the xfire_lsp_7651.dll file. Then you'd click
Finish >> and you'd have your broken Internet fixed.
LSPFix can be found
here.
If you have further concerns, please visit my
website and you can also post your Hijack This log at the following
thread.

Tarun, if you may.. whats the problem with having the LSP broken as you said.. I've had X-Fire Installed for about 8 months now and haven't had a single problem even though in Hijack this i saw the O10 LSP blah blah blah line i just ignored it....
*sorry to kinda sway this topic off topic...*

Gizmo anyone?
Jeremy

I tried Gizmo, didn't like it. My college A+ instructor mentioned LSPFix. Perhaps someone will mention this LSP issue to the XFire developers so they can fix this "issue". I don't have many games installed, I'm not in any clan so I don't have much use for XFire. Nonetheless, it is a nice app and it now works with Garry's Mod, which I play often.

HAHA! I wonder if this might have anything to do with the fact that Yahoo tried to sue X-Fire!

nice resurect of a year old topic... anyways..
yea, i've been able to run Yahoo with XFire. although i don't run Yahoo very often, mainly cause i don't like the look and feel of it.

Xfire is very useful, just really annoying when you get clan members on different teams telling where they are....for example,
Counter Strike- seen it when dead players tell other players where the other team is, well annoying

but doesnt happen that often
Synapse
Nov 29 2005, 03:14 PM
actually, i believe Ventrilo and Teamspeak are more of an annoyance of clan members telling the other team where people are going.. rather then X-Fire.
althought.. i'm guilty of it so i guess i'm neutral. I tell my friends where other people are just to end the game earlier... its either a. sit there and wait on the guy camping spawn until time runs out, or b. tell my freind where he is so he can kill him.
but in my group of friends, we use Xfire only to join the same games.. it pretty much goes like this "find a server" "ok" "i'm in" *everyone else connects*

Same thing here - tis the easiest way.
Usually use skype conf call in the background for voice chat tho

Can XFire access existing networks in the same way that Trillian does (i.e. is it just a client?) or would I have to convince all my friends to switch?

dont think so, it has its own network, specified for games etc, not a multi chat program
