What is the best P2P software available? Many to choose from (iMesh, Xolox, Limewire etc) but dont want to install them because of adware etc.

BitTorrent all the way, baby.

Gotta love how you can get whole seasons of TV Shows there. Saves a lot of VHS costs.

(I know, I could get a DVD Recorder, but hey... CDs aren't too bad either, and with a TV-Out on my PC, it is more than good enough.)
EDIT:Oh, oh! And you can also get TV-Show which you'd be unable to get otherwise (cause they don't show in your own country for some reason or another..) - but I'm babbling.. this thread isn't about that.

1 part I've to fix
shareaza connects to edonkey network.
also downloads torrent links.
and if a torrent file exist on edonkey/emule networks it downloads
so shareaza all the way.
mp3's are okay. but I hate the fact that it doesn't, most of the time display the bitrates. and these new copyright stuff are annoying

ShareAza is the best - stick with it.
Upgrade to v2.0 of it, if you haven't already done so.
It kicks a**, 'cos it supports many P2P networks.
It supports Gnutella 1 & 2, eDonkey2000, BitTorrent, and is also a good download manager (for http/ftp files). And this is just the beginning.
shareaza is the best IMO

for the same reasons prathapml said

@mutahir: You know, you should really read the topic before you start posting stuff. I don't think posting about your eMule problem has anything to do with "Best Peer-to-Peer Software"

just be careful getting the brand new stuff, or the popular stuff. Especially in the US. I got a letter from my ISP that i violated teh DMCA because I started downloading the Friends Series Finale because I missed. I mean seriously, if it was on TV.....
I'd use Shareaza, but you may want to get a good IP blocker to keep out those naughty people that want money from you...

if you have a router you will need to forward ports:
4661
4662
4672
5555
If no router and you using xp take off the built in xp firewall, also if using norton, zonealarm etc, disable it for emule.
Check out emules site for more help

I only use 6 programs for all my downloading needs:
IRC (how can you not?)
ReGet Deluxe (best download accelerator in the world for me)
FlashFXP (best FTP program I've found)
NewsBin Pro (best program to find pictures of EVERYTHING)
BitTorrent (great for those obscure things you can't get elsewhere)
eMule Plus! (best place to find those OLD songs that you can't buy anywhere - I have that happen a lot in Australia)

IRC is peer to peer when you think your downloading something of someone else and not a website etc.
Agret

Peer to Peer is when you have data coming from more than one source, if all the data is coming from the same source (a la IRC) it is not true Peer to Peer.

My personal fave is Overnet which is part of the eDonkey network. Others I have used are: Direct Connect, DC++, WinMX, Bittorrent, eMule.

Your right sorry... Here is what I actually meant:
I have written a mIRC script that can download "parts" of a file from different sources via IRC. You specify what file your downloading, who your downloading from (one or more people) and then my script will calculate the file size, split it up and request sections from each of those people.
So yes, IRC itself isn't a true peer-to-peer but with a little help it can be.
Agret
Jun 22 2004, 04:06 PM
Have you published that script? How does it work? Does it require fserves or does it require xdcc's? Does it support both?
Denney
Jun 22 2004, 09:38 PM
There is still a few bugs with the script (been getting a lot of corrupt downloads lately) so I haven't published it yet. I might do that one day.
It only suppots XDCC's at the moment. FServes may be a little harder to code into it.
Agret
Jun 23 2004, 03:09 AM
Its a pain finding the file you want, yet finding 2 xdcc's with the exact same file? get outta here...

I have been using Limewire now for about 2 months. Only glitch i can see is if your trying to get a large file (i.e. over 100 meg) it tends to disconnect and be super slow. But strangely enough if you get large files simultaneously it seems to speed up and not drop out. I have seen sustained dl speeds up to 125kb/s. Average is probably closer to 25 or 30 kb/s. I wonder why almost no one has mentioned limewire in this post, complete junk or havent tried it?

I'v been using limewire pro for few months now and i can say it's truly best p2p applications for mp3 sharing. Searches are quick and responsive, has some rare music files that are hard to find and the speeds are maxing out. The applications is a bit slow, so is any other java program out there. Maybe they should write it in some faster language such as c. Lastly limewire is the only p2p application i have installed besides bit torrent.

I personnally use
BITTORNADO! The only simple (well i tried 2 before this one)bittorent client. Just click the torrent link and it starts up, very fast downloads. Just wait for the convenient tray icon to turn from gray to white and download is done. Don't forget to stay on longer after file transfert is finished if you want to help share the wealth!
Since I'm very unlucky at finding bittorent files appart from suprnova (I really don't rememeber the url, justdon't put an e to supr) I have been using eDonkey for a long time. It gots lots of good stuff there, like albums in .rar or .zip format, which is so much better then looking for each song (there is so much bands with only 1 hit and an album that sucks a**), but for some people, including me, since version 1.0 was released I'm having serious speed problems, often uploading a full day without downloading a byte, i'm also "lowid"ed even if i done all the steps to resolve this (it occured only after installing v1.0) so if you can find the old 0.53 installer (maybe I should rollback...

) DOWNLOAD EDONKEY v0.53b else try v1.0 if it works or wait for an update!
Should I try Shareaza? Well there is a new 2.0 version, and I'm afrait of new things (like I regret trying the new edonkey version...) so anyone know it it's good?

whats a magnet dl? shareaza has it but i've never seen a link to magnet.

A magnet is for downloading bittorents i believe. that was what it told me when i put in a bittorrent. (don't pin me on that though)
Using Emule ofcourse

Shareaza 2.0
Mostly i use Emule cause i'm very familiar with it, and a lot of good iso's can be found there although lattely a lot of Noob's have found it and the best webpage is down already for so long

so yeah time to find a better one that the NooB's don't understand

@ Mr. Spok,
I agree, I love emule, and I have learned to use it very efficiently, but these Noob F**ks ruin everything. First ShareReactor, the Shareconnector, and I have benn tring Filedonkey, even that is down. I hate Noobs. I love Emule, slow but never had a bad download, ever, and have been using it for over a year now, best content on one network I would say, you just need a good indexing site for ed2k links to get the best content out of it, but the searches within the program are good as well.

@ ChunkDog
that's the difficult part of a indexing page. I have run for a long time the www.donkeynl.com page but we have been taken down

And sins that a lot of page's have followd cause of the fact that the strait start to come with laywers and stuff.
I can't pay a laywer that's good inof to take it up agains M$ for instance.
So when you want to have a very good index page for ed2k, then you need a few things.
1. A good webhost that have no problem with it.
2. about 20g bandwhite
3. A very good laywer.
The guy who was the webmaster of sharereactor is still having a lot of problems and is still in a battle with court and others
