Well here is the cheat:
You can configure Minesweeper to display either a white or black pixel on screen, depending on if the cursor is over a mine (black) or not (white) by following these steps:
1. Start Minesweeper.
2. Type

xyzzy

then press Shift+Enter.
3. Minimize all windows and begin play.

The pixel in the top left-hand corner of the desktop will be black if the cursor is over a mine square or white if the cursor is over a safe square. This trick works on all versions of Minesweeper supplied with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0, and Windows 3.1.

Can't get mine to work either.Do I add the xyzzy to the command line in properties,as in right clicking on the minesweeper's startup tab?

The cheat turn 1 (one) single pixel in the upper left hand corner of the disply white when a square is safe. Have to look real hard to see it - but it is there.

Hmmmm, well i cant get it to work, lol. Tried it on both my comp and my mums... Still nothing. Both different OS's too (Mine XP Home, hers XP Pro).

I first heard of this cheat on the orginal "TechTV, Screensavers - Call for Help". (When Leo was still there, thoses where the days)

I got it to work - you have to have really good eyes, and make sure you have the screen on the "Screen": not going off the screen edegs. If you have a big mon - 19" or higher, try changing your Screen Res to 800X600 temp.

iv knows of these for years..... i used them back in ellementary school on my windows 95 machine

or do I just type it when the cursor is above the mine field?

it says start minesweeper and then type "xyzzy", but does that mean

1) type it just after you sent the request
2) type it when it's loading
3) type it when it minesweeper instructions are on screen
4) type it when the blue field has loaded


does the cheat work when I start the game, or also when my "buddy" starts it?

Minimize everything, open Minesweeper, THEN type it in the Minesweeper screen.

Ah well....... (I havent won 1 time playing that over the years)

I don't know... I don't think Minesweeper is hard enough to warrant using cheats. Its like that Freecell cheat lol.
