@mazin so you just renamed liveupdate v2.5 (lusetup.exe) to lsetup.exe and put it in ...\CommonAppData\Symantec\LiveUpdate\LuMMInst as a replacement. and thats it? Good job. I will try when I install VMware on my newly install unattended setup.

Cannot find a Packager PMI file for Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition 9.0
Situation:
In the documentation for Symantec AntiVirus 9.0, it says that when you use the unsupported tool Packager to distribute the Symantec AntiVirus software, you can use the default PMI file.
Solution:
Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 does not have a PMI file for use with Packager. Symantec AntiVirus 9.0 is now an MSI that can be edited using any MSI editor tool. The reference to a default PMI with the unsupported Packager is referencing the use of legacy Symantec AntiVirus 8.x PMI's.
This is exactly my case. Yes packager is no longer supported in v9.0 BUT it still is distributed on the cd as you can see in the attached screenshot. The ONLY THING MISSING are the files that they "forgot" to put on the cd and that's why I've been asking here for a week for some kind 8.1 corporate user to send me those darn project files from his packager. CAUSE THAT'S THE SOLUTION FROM SYMANTEC. All I got yet is denial and people telling me this is warez... come on guys... (and mazin thanks for your help but if you don't have v8.1 you could do nothing more)
It's not because it's no longer officially supported that this will not work, and since nobody tried yet we wont know before I do it. Now if anyone can understand what i'm saying, please take some time to look through your old cds, find SAV v8.1 and zip me the project files that comes with packager. You can mail them at thauzar@videotron.ca

Just a stupid question, is there a French version for LU 2.5, too?
Thauzar
Sep 4 2004, 06:54 AM
Well, I guess so cause mine looks like v2.0 not 2.5
the link is as followed
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/francais/li...e/lu_2.0_fr.zipBut the renaming method worked perfect with v2.0
EVERY FRENCH USER SHOULD BROWSE THROUGH
ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/francais/ to find their files and BE CAREFUL to download the Symantec Antivirus CE v9.0.0.1400 FR (WITHOUT b, 9.0.0.1400 FRb)
The version with a "b" at the end is no beta but is for licensed versions, the one without a "b" is the one you need here. (mazin did you corrected the link I sent you yesterday?)
And for anyone new to this post, the guide you need to follow is hidden somewhere in those 15 pages, say
Hocus Pocus and it should appear

Don't forget to edit the code to fit the french names of the files you downloaded!

The worst part is that I often get the feeling i'm doing all this for nothing. Installing NAV pro 2004 worked fine, but I wanted the auto liveupdate feature I heard we could use with packager. Now I installed corporate 9 and I still have to manually live update. I wish the mythic packager will solve all my questions but for now I have to wait

At least I am learning new stuff during that time, and I still saved 30mb installing corporate edition instead of pro. The only difference I noticed yet are the graphics are not the same and the Recycle Bin is not protected.
Anyone ever tried the packager from 8.1 and lived to tell the tale?

That makes sense (regarding creating the AIP on a system without SAV installed).
I think the newer scan engine comes with the 9.0.0.1400 patch, as the one computer I've got SAV9 installed on is also using 1.2.0.13.

Forgot to include the virusdefs update in my AIP before I packed it together so the first liveupdate updated it, but the version of the scan engine does not change until you reload the service. I will try to copy in the new lusetup.exe -> lsetup.exe too to get everything updated at once. Else I have this installed ok so far:
CODE
REG ADD %KEY%\090 /VE /D "Symantec AV Corp Ed 9" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\090 /V 1 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\SAV\SAVCE901mp1.exe" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\090 /V 2 /D "\"%systemdrive%\Install\SAV\Symantec AntiVirus.msi\" /qb RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS" /f
REG ADD %KEY%\090 /V 3 /D "%systemdrive%\Install\SAV\lusetup.exe /s /a /q" /f
Here is the WinRAR SFX setting to unrar it silently if you need it. Just select all files -> Right click -> Add to archive -> Check SFX -> Change comment to my comment below and choose Best compression to save some bytes
CODE
;The comment below contains SFX script commands
Path=%SystemDrive%\Install\SAV\

Just so you guys know, if you're willing to do some MSI hacking, you can actually remove all of the other files in the LuMMInst directory. Just make a note of the file names so you can remove their references using Orca or WinINSTALL LE.
I've also been able to repack lsetup.exe to extract silently, as it's nothing but a WinRAR SFX archive. Unfortunately, I've also tried editing Settings.Default.LiveUpdate to have Express mode enabled by default, but that setting for some reason didn't appear to stick.
I've tested all of this out and it works beautifully. With the 9/11/04 virus defs, my whole SAV install package is 11.7MB 7-zip compressed.

Does anybody know how to change LiveUpdate settings so it's installed with them in place?
I pulled Settings.Default.LiveUpdate from the SFX archive and found the relevant keys (PREFERENCES\EXPRESS_MODE\ENABLED=YES and such), but after modifying the keys and repacking the file into the archive, it seems to completely ignore those settings once LiveUpdate is actually installed. I dont know if I`m stating the obvious here, but I made a SFX of the whole sav91400 directory, opened the SFX, pressed ALT-M and added the
CODE
;The comment below contains SFX script commands
Path=%SystemDrive%\Install\SAV\

Silent=2
Overwrite=1
then, modified the installation batch file as follows. This uncompresses the SFX file, changes to that folder and runs the sav.msi as normal.
CODE
ECHO Extracting SAV 9.0.0.1400
start /wait %systemdrive%\install\sav91400.exe
cd %systemdrive%\install\sav91400
ECHO SAV 9.0.0.1400 V.Defs updated 28.8.2004
start /wait SAV.msi /QB RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 REBOOT=ReallySuppress
This compresses the entire SAV91400 from 51.5Mb uncompressed to only folder to 19.8Mb.
When finished just delete the SFX file and SAV folder.

About the only thing 7-zip's SFX module is missing at this point IMO is the ability to be completely hidden during extraction. Also, I'd like it if it were able to directly execute MSI files instead of needing msiexec to do it. Igor told me in email that he might put that into a future version.

Well I disagree about the features missing. I think adding your own icon, specifying your own directory (inside the sfx) and ability to edit them later are the three features I really want. What's the difference between LiveUpdate and IntelligentUpdater?
QUOTE
Symantec supplies updated virus definitions files weekly through LiveUpdate and daily through Intelligent Updater files posted to the Symantec Security Response Web site. (Updates are also issued whenever a new high-risk virus threat emerges.) Make it a practice to update virus definitions once a week at a minimum. Scheduling LiveUpdate to run automatically is the easiest way not to forget. Always update immediately if a new virus scare is reported.
With LiveUpdate, Symantec AntiVirus connects automatically to a special Symantec Web site and determines if virus definitions need updating. If so, it downloads the proper files and installs them in the proper location. LiveUpdate also checks for and downloads program patches to Symantec AntiVirus, if available. Generally, you do not have to do anything to configure LiveUpdate. The only requirement is an Internet connection.
