I played Doom 3 last night and I have not sh@t myself in a game like that since the original Silent Hill on Playstation. I am still at the beginning, where the demons have come and I am cr@pping myself! blushing.gif

The darkness, and ESPECIALLY those freaky radio transmissions of ppl dying. *shiver*

I can't wait to get home to play some more! cool.gif yes.gif

These kind of games are ideal in a dark room with the volume up!

Try PainKiller for a realy intense game woot.gif

Doom 3 is like a walk in the park compared to Painkiller

Painkiller is a first-person horror shooter, designed to satisfy a gamer's
hunger for intense, fast-paced action. ItĘs an adrenaline addictĘs nightmare,
where hellish monsters swarm in seemingly endless mobs.
Graphically, Painkiller is unmatched. Played out over more than 20 completely
unique and different levels, the proprietary 3D engine puts out 100X the
polygons of the latest shooters, while adding increased texture quality and
the latest lighting and shadowing techniques.
Stranded in a place between Heaven and Hell, your time of judgment is at
hand. The Underworld is on the verge of unholy war, and you are but a pawn
in the infernal battle. As you fight for your purification, the truths
behind the deceptions are revealed.

Game Features:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
- Intense gameplay: The player will be constantly outnumbered, fighting against
seemingly insurmountable odds.
- Next-generation graphics: The game uses the proprietary 3D PAIN Engine
capable of pumping out 100X the polygons of some of the latest shooters,
while adding increased texture quality and the latest lighting and shadowing
techniques.
- Lasting replay value: Painkiller features a standard single player campaign,
with additional modes to encourage replay. The game also features full
multiplayer support.
- Combo weapons: All weapons come in pairs, with a primary and secondary fire.
- Morphing: Your unholy pact gives you the power to morph into a powerful
possessed creature with every 100 souls collected.
- Monster AI: Advanced AI coding will simulate group behaviours. Monsters
don't spawn onto the map, they patrol. They are constantly aware of the
player, and will coordinate their attacks by retreating, regrouping and
counterattacking.
- Physics Engine: Painkiller employs the Havok 2.0 physics engine, allowing
for inverse kinematics ("rag-doll physics") and deformable, interactive
environments
i've played painkiller but i really preffer doom3. a good graphic card is the only problem if you don't have a high specs machine for d3.
painkiller's monsters are... less realistic?? anyway it's a good game
Somebody on another forum mentioned that they played Doom 3 in a dark room with their headphones on, this got me thinking. Because I have to play with the sound down at home, I dug up some old headphones of mine and plugged them and played some Doom...
blink.gif wacko.gif woot.gif !
Man, did I jump out of my skin!!! Now that I could hear all the little sounds and things, the game gets a hell of a lot more creepier...
And I'm still @ Alpha Labs, apparently it gets much more scarier.
disgraceful33
yeah you got a long way to go and it only gets better. there's some cheap thrills - monsters that jump at you and stuff, but all in all, the scariest game i've played since the first aliens vs. predator. i heard clive barker's undying was supposed to be a great horror game. i'll have to check out painkiller as well.
oh, and i think my favorite scene in doom so far was the part in alpha labs with the old scientist on the bridge with the lantern....
*remembers the old Doom 1 and Doom* god.. those were EASY... was more of point and shoot.. and know where you were going... i'm getting doom 3 tomarrow... but i already know its NOT going too run on my computer lol..
1.9 ghz AMD Athlon XP
Windows XP Home
1 gig of memory
geforce 4 mx440 64 mb memory.. LOL
so yea...... i'll be playing at like 1 fps. sad.gif
*anyone got an old video card they don't need... hint hint... tongue.gif *
EDIT: just got doom 3 installed it and I LOVE IT! its scary as f*** i almost wet myself.. blushing.gif its actually running better then i though for my Geforce 4.. i can get my 50 FPS but it still drops down too about 9 FPS every now and then... I played with the cheat codes to spawn the main boss "Cyberdemon lord" at least i think thats the main boss... and it was soo bad that i was getting 1 fps.. and for all you people that are gonna call me a cheater.. i wanted too see what they did with the cyberdemon lord.. i play the game without codes when i'm actually playing.
I enjoyed playing Doom 1 and 2 MUCH more than Doom 3. Oh, and if you think Doom 3 is anything more than just point and shoot, then you're sorely mistaken.
I used to think Doom 3 had a chance against Half-Life 2, but it now looks as though it's gonna have its arse whipped tenfold.
My vote for the scariest game ever goes to System Shock 2, or Thief 3 in the haunted orphanage.
I thought "The Suffering" was a really good scarey freaky game as well. It'll make ya jump too.
lieblingsbesuch
i think "undying" is as scary as doom3....just give it a try!
Eiffel
Painkiller is nice but doom3 is scarier
well anyway i dont like doom3
it sucks to allways switch between weapon and flashlight
just to see where u are heading
Anusha
That's why it is scary, Eiffel! Anyway, I finished the game at highest difficulty level unlocked (not nightmare!) and it's pretty easy compared to hardest level of FarCry, simply because you can save wherever you want to. Anyway, I don't think nightmare level is that realistic as your health drops to 25% slowly after you get a health pack.
Also, the final 'boss' wasn't as difficult as the 'medium sized bossed' you come across in the middle.
But, it was a freakingly scary game. I think I'm a fearless freak after playing it. I played it in the mid-night too; not on the first day, but 3rd and 4th. Took me only 5 days to finish the game.
Doom 1 and 2 all you had too do was aim in the general vicinity of the enemy with a rocket launcher and it went right too them. never had too point up or down too kill anything. Doom3 you have too point the rocket launcher and shoot not just have them on the screen and fire away. Thats why i never had that much fun in Doom 1 & 2 but hell.. when you had a 50 mhz computer and Doom 1 & 2 was barely hitting System Requirements.. that was fun good ol' days.
But as for doom 3 being the scariest game... well if you have headphones on lights off no cheat codes and are an avid gamer and actaully "become" the game. feel as if it was real.. then yea. Doom 3 is gold. mainly all sound like people screaming over the intercom, screams coming from within the walls. eerie lighting... yea.. its enough too freak you out.
tbh I think it's great - I remember the feeling I got playing the first Doom, the first time you realise you have to go into one of those dark flickering areas, and you could hear the sounds of the 'dormant' monsters somewhere, but you weren't sure quite where...and I think they've recreated that feeling very well. All the more scary when you have to actually try to shoot accurately as well rolleyes.gif
