Anyone know how to transfer the Norton Ghost v9.0 into my Multi-Boot CD?
nkarnold
Just to let you know, ive been trying to do this, without much success yet.
ToBe
Copy the i386 folder from the ghost cd to your multiboot cd, and rename it to ghv9 or something, create a bootfile pointing to that folder, and edit setupldr.bin (change any references about i386 to ghv9).

It's a version of WinPE, so any guides about that should work with ghost..

Flyakite's guide about ERD commander and BartPe should lead you on the right track.

Haven't tried it though. blushing.gif

@leungda,

the tutorial from ToBe is the right way. I have tested; it is working newwink.gif
I have patched the two files yet:

-GHV9.BIN
-SETUPLDR.BIN

You can download the pack here:

http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=D368FD51...E32ED54EA1F8021

Now copy the i386 folder from your ghost v9.0 cd to the root of your Multiboot DVD. The rename it to "GHV9". Now copy the "SETUPLDR.BIN" of my package into the renamed GHV9 folder.

After that copy the "GHV9.BIN" in to the root of your Multiboot DVD. The last thing you have to do, is to set the path in bcdw.ini like this:

CODE
\GHV9.BIN; Norton Ghost v9.0; ^ Leistungsfähiges Programm zur Aktualisierung, Sicherung & ^ Wiederherstellung von Systemen.

Here is my bcdw.ini of my multiboot dvd biggrin.gif
There a lot of stuff on the dvd ;-) but no more space for ghost 9.

Works fine for me, too. Though I didn't use Webjunkies files. I just hex-edited them myself. But now I'm wondering if it was even worth it. Ghost 9 won't do disk cloning. At least, I couldn't get it to work from VirtualPC. I tried with two VHDD's specified and with two partitions on the same VHDD. No go. The only useful part is the AV scan, and that can be done other, better ways.

@Webjunkie

Which Version? german or englisch?

I have the german Version and here is a Screenshot from the Message!
I use your Files for this Test.

With my Original CD works all Fine.

Hi all,

I too have been attempting to put Ghost 2005 onto a multiboot but without success. It all boots up ok, and the application starts but then I get the same prob that other people have been having.

When I ran into problems with this, I started searching for ideas/help and I came across this thread.

For those of you that have been successful with this could I just ask where you are putting the remainder of the cd besides the I386 folder and how are you accessing these files.

As it turns out I have followed more or less the method outlined in this thread, except that I extracted the boot file direct from the cd.
The cd works just fine in Virtual PC, but when I use the files from it I get the probs outlined above.

I have also copied all the files from the cd into AIO\Ghost-2005 and pointed setupsourcepath in txtsetup.sif at this folder but that didn't work either.

Any help or further advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks in advance.

Here's my structure:

\
Win51
Win51IP
Win51IP.SP1
winbom.ini
Boot <--CD Shell menu dir which launches SGH9 boot loader
|
SGH9 <-- Renamed i386 dir from Ghost CD
|__setupldr.bin <--- hex-edited to point to SGH9 instead of i386
|
Documents And Settings
|
Support
|
Isolinux
|__sgh9.dat <-- Boot loader for Ghost 9 hex-edited to point to SGH9 instead of i386

Well, it was my structure until I implemented Ghost into my BartPE (the version that allows me to clone disks, not the castrated version from the Ghost 9 CD). Since I did that, no need for Ghost9 anymore so it went bye-bye. But the structure is still sound and works.

Hi,

The link isn't active anymore, are these Ghost 9 .BIN files available anywhere else please.

It's a simple matter to hex-edit the files yourself. Open them in any hex editor and do a Find & Replace on i386 and replace it with GHV9 in both boot.bin (ghv9.bin) and setupldr.bin.

Hi,

Thanks for your edited files, much appreciated. yes.gif

What are the actual files and directories required to use in a multi-boot CD so I can boot to Ghost9 from CD??? (the \i386\ is just so large)

I've already got working, booting to NAV 2005, PM8.05, Ghost2003 but Ghost9 has got me stumped.

Look up. I already posted what you need 4 posts above yours.

i386
Documents And Settings
Support

However, like I said a little further up, I personally don't think it's worth it. Even the AV scan is turning out to be useless. Scanned a machine using updated virus defs from BartPE using the prescanner from Ghost 9. It found 2 infected files and deleted them. I took the HDD to another computer and ran NAV 2k4 from there (since I knew it had more viruses than that) and it found another 144 infected files. Kind of pointless to have a virus scanner in PE from the disc when it finds barely any infected files.

Hi there,

Thanks everybody for your help so far and thanks for for posting your structure Jito.

Have tried it and still get the same prob as Loomes.

So I tried using WebJunkie's files (for which, thank you WebJunkie) instead of my own hex-edited files and still get the same result.

I have also tried using bcdw (cdshell extension) as well as isolinux (chain) but still the same prob.

Any other ideas as to what's going wrong? Anybody, Please?

What is the exact error message you get? Also, make sure you use the exact same name (only 4 characters long, too) for the i386 directory and when hex-editing the boot.bin and setupldr.bin.
DTS56
Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

For the exact error, please see Loomes's screenshot (about the 8th post in this thread)

Also thanks for the other tip but the problem is not that it won't boot. It boots fine to my menu and then boots into Ghost 2005 with no probs.

It's just that when I select an option I get the error outlined above.

Strange thing though, is that I can access the help and also use the items on the advanced recovery tasks menu in Utilities, including running Ghost 8 from this menu.

I only seem to get the error when I try to run any of the Ghost 9 tools.

I have tried copying the contents of the entire cd into both the root of multiboot and into a sub-folder with the appropriate renaming of files and folders and the appropriate hex-editing of the boot files etc but still get the same prob.

It would appear that Ghost 2005 is set to look in a particular place for it's programs and I am somehow missing out on pointing it to the appropriate place.

I'm missing something here, but what?

@DTS56

I have found the Problem biggrin.gif
I made my Image with UltraISO....THAT IS THE PROBLEM wacko.gif

Made the ISO with cdimage.exe and this Command and they Work fine:

cdimage.exe -lMBDVD -t10/10/2004,10:15:00 -h -n -o -m e:\DVD e:\DVD.iso

Ghost 9.0 works fine and the Megabyte of the ISO is very COOL!
DTS56
Hi All,

Hey Loomes, thanks for the tip.

However I didn't use UltraISO, I used Nero, so UltraISO wouldn't have been the problem.

I will keep a note of your cdimage command line though, if you don't mind, for future reference.

I decided to give this prog one more attempt and built it again from scratch (using my own hex-edited files) and unbelievably, this time, it worked.

Still don't know what I was doing wrong the umpteen other times though.

Funny thing is that I have just done the same thing with ERD 2003 (rebuild it from scratch several months after giving up on it) and that now works fine as well.

I suppose there's a moral here somewhere.

Thanks to all for your help with this one.
