If you like counterstrike you may want to get it. But I think valve did a horrible job putting this game together. Sure it looks pretty ... but I see some major flaws.

1) No multiplayer. And if you say CS:Source is multiplayer, hit yourself on the head. Half Life the original had Half Life multiplayer with Half Life guns and a mod called Counterstrike with Counterstrike guns.

Half Life 2 has no multiplayer.

2) I doubt they beta tested this game as much as they should have let alone prepared to take on the world to register their games all at the same time. This doubt comes into play as I notice not just within my own gaming system but all across the Half Life 2 related forums on the net. People are having severe problems with Audio // Video stuttering. A supposed fix is to come out Nov 23.

As for Valve and their great invention STEAM ... well good idea, I just wish when I buy a game (the day it is released) I can play it. In my circumstance it wasnt till a day later until I could register my game so I could play single player. Good idea ... but there is already a warez version for the single player that works 100% with no problems a day before the game was even released in stores, so why should we the consumer suffer a delay in playing a game we purchased due to a security precation that obviously failed. Anyway back on topic ... their servers were swamped and I had to wait a day to play the much anticipated game ... very upsetting

And another thing about the retail version. It requires the CD/DVD in the drive in order to play the game, while the people who bought the game using STEAM get to enjoy a CD/DVD less environment. I understand it has to deal with some court issues but ... this should have been thought of way before this game was released.

3) The game itself seemed extremely short and the storyline seemed weaker than the original Half Life, but I am gonna go back and play Half Life to hopefully prove myself wrong. But it just feels like this game had less thought into it as the original.

Ok lets recap. Buggy, Activation Issues (supposed security), Retail CD/DVD usage, Game had less thought put into it.

Oh and ... NO MULTIPLAYER! That is the original reason I bought the original. I loved the multiplayer way before MODs such as DOD, CS, and NS became so big.

Overall I suggest a wait till the game gets an overhaul with updates and maybe some mods. I am to understand there is a Multiplayer mod coming out soon ... I think the maps are the issue right now.

It's your choice ... I personally am upset at the release and I wasnt even hyped up for the game. I bought it cause I know its gonna be the talk of the town at the next lan party ... I wanna fit in after all

does anyone know what the actual size is of the official Half Life 2 DVD?

i thought HL2 was very beautiful looking. it was too easy and too short. i beat the game in a week. CS:S is nice looking. although, CS:S either has too many cheaters already, or it is WAY too easy to headshot.

I think I'll stick to America's Army.

Overall, i was disappointed in this game.

ok erm i don't have the game yet but do u all ppl who have played hl2 and finished it so fast play it in easiest settings? try hard or something?

and its a shoot em up type of game so there is only 1 storyline and not so many alternatives to what can happen.. so its normal that it will be short. for me doom3 was so short but hl 1 was so loong...

I LOVED it Half-Life 2 was great and well worth the wait, and CS:S has made me play CS again... which after my experince on the old one I thought never would again but it has given it such a great "face lift" well worth the wait... Although It was long I want MORE.... PLEASE....

Great Game... Well worth the money... and looks nice even on my aging PC (AMD Athlon 2000, 1GB ram and GeForce FX 5600 128mb) ... I think I will build a new one after Christmas, just so i can play it again...

i'm playing it right now, i can't believe what you can do in that game: i've just move my 4x4 with a crane and my favorite... the gravity-gun, the best weapon on the HL world. until that i never thought on cut at half an alien body with a chainsaw disc . i highly recommend it. i'm sure there will be a before and an after HL2

i needed to post this... i was running and she was following me on one of the prison levels, then the loading screen appears... after a few seconds another girl just respawned in front of me and after the "f***!" shout i jumped about 1 meter from the chair!
i find λ² too buggy, the 0x******** error i got when exiting, the "ai disabled" and "rebuilding nodes" bugs, the "echo sound" when some1 is speaking while loading new textures... a high amount of things that need to be corrected: valve is in it and soon will be released a retail patch (i think it's available at the moment throught steam).
finally i haven't beat the game yet but at the moment i can give an overall of 10 over 10.

I haven't come across the ai_disable bug i'm sure i'm going to experience it sometime, (valve quick fix it!)

I think Valve is already working on a first bugfix, if they haven't released it already.

maybe I'm one of the lucky few with not an all tricked out system....but I have yet to recieve any bugs or AI disabling. maybe because my system is a laptop which means all the hardware isn't top of the line...but then again, didnn't have an issue on my desktop either.

has anyone figured out how to combine the 5 cds into one dvd? i hate games that are more expensive on dvd. i refuse to buy them!

umm....
if you were to combine them, you would need to get around the Copy Protection. I don't really see why they have a copy protection on Half-Life 2. If when you install, you have to connect to steam to validate the install, and go through it to run the program, then you have to use your steam account, which only ONE person can access at a time and the CDKEY can only be used ONCE. I understand Copy Protection on games that don't validate over the net, since you can easily just go to another computer install and make a copy and your friend can play at the same time with you (Starcraft anyone?). I personally wish I didn't need to use the CD to run the game, like you don't when you purchase through Steam. Main reason I use the Steam accout vs the CD Steam Account. And now I'm rambling, so I'll shutup now

i've just finished the game, was really funny on some parts, on others i feel afraid ... let me comment it a little:

3d models: 9.5/10
wonderful work, the models are pretty accurate and really well designed i was really impressed by doggie

textures: 9/10
do their job, some of them are small but no game is perfect and in general better than for example the textures on D3

sound:9/10
really good, when the music goes on you know what is going to happen. ambience is the best and with good audio hardware...

plot:10/10
you know this is the big part, a secuel of HL have it hard. everytime you sight g-man and how the game ends... the best storyline a game had.

overall: 9.5/10
i could rest points because of bugs and problems while playing, it appears that it needed 1 week more solving them. i could also add some points plus because valve have corrected most of them and the update is available through steam. the activation part is not one of my favorites but hey is HL2! LoL!
finally i have to recommend it, for me the best game ever (after the first HL )

I enjoyed HL2 better then Halo 2. It was also longer. I beat Halo 2 in less then 15 hours of game play, and I was stopping every few levels because I was getting bored. HL2 kept me in the seat, and only stopped when there was a Halo Tournament downstairs or I had to sleep or get to class....

Some people think there is no way she could survive that, which makes sense.
Others say the gman, hinted at saving her when he brushed the dust of her hand.
others are guessing this game may have been just a test for Freeman, and not the real earth. Im not really sure about anything, thats why i nearly screamed at the ending!

For those who have finished the game have you seen this ugly texture?

Near the end, you are going up the Gigantic Blue tower in an elevator. As you go up (pretty long ride...) you can see outside and you can see the city if you look at the bottom but this texture is worse that Doom I. the city looks like a 100x100 pixel bitmap stetched to full screen WHHAAAA UGLY!

I'm still playing HL2 and have been for a few weeks now, I don't get much time because of work etc....

I was wondering if anyone ahs got suck before? I got stuck trying to climb on to a Military Truck...

My view on HL2 is that it is the ultimate game of 2004/2005 and I can't wait to see what valve next is store for us.
