Hello guys. i bought for this christmas a pack of very good titles such as TOCA RACE DRIVER 2 and NEDD FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2.
But unfortunately i got a trouble with the last one. in general my 3dfx acceleration doesn't work..it seems this game is going with software acceleration....i don't understand where's the trouble cause the game installs correctly and runs fine but in game (and on the menu of course) i see this damned 3d software rendering....and it goes too too too slow...

please help me to play this fine....my gfx is on my signature (SAPPHIRE ATI 9000 PRO) with latest drivers and directX
help help sad.gif i need for speed sad.gif
bledd
you'll need a better system to handle newer games mate, especially NFSU2
magicfly
mmm...but the system requirements are at least the same of NFSU 1...and however the latest games such as doom3, half life2 or toca2 runs perfectly...

i forgot to mention that a friend of mine has a very new pc, p4 3.2 GHZ with ATi 9550... and he has the same problem...
XtremeMaC
they both work on my gf 4 440mx, though on low config...
read the readme's maybe they've issues with your card or something like that..

i haven't heard of "software acceleration" for long while now, last i saw that i think i was playing nfs 4 or 5:)
how do u know its working on software accel?

anyways try looking into
display properties,
settings
advanced
troubleshoot
and look at hardware acceleration and set it to full also enable write combining..

other than this i can only suggest u to get new drivers, maybe new drivers for your mobo chipset etc....
and find write cache

i can tell you that because i see textures as i was playing to nfs 4 or nfs 5...
it's so strange and very tiring!!! i can't play nfsu2 anyway... sad.gif

i quote what's on readme file:

VIDEO CARD SUPPORT
==================

Although Direct3D is supported, this support is only officially
extended to certain 3D accelerator devices. The following major D3D
chipsets are supported.

ATI Radeon 7500 or greater
NVIDIA GeForce2 or greater

While Direct3D supports a wider variety of 3D accelerator devices, the
behavior of NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 cannot be predicted in these
situations. In extreme cases, running NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 with
a Direct3D device that is not officially supported can lead to an
unstable PC environment.

VIDEO & GRAPHICS PROBLEMS
=========================
If you are experiencing performance problems on the default graphics
settings, try lowering some of the settings or the game resolution.

This game requires DirectX 9.0c
It is available for download by going to:

Directx 9.0c www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/

Graphic Cards: Graphical settings and features available in-game are
dependant on Graphics Card capabilities. Settings not supported by your
Graphics Card hardware are disabled in the Options Menu to prevent
adverse effects on the game and your computer.

ATI Cards: All supported ATI cards were tested using Catalyst driver
version 4.10 (Win2k/XP) and 4.7 (Win98/ME). It is highly recommended
this driver or a more recent version be used when running
NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2.

Known Issues: Currently there is a problem with the anti-aliasing
functions in NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 and drivers older
than Catalyst 4.10. It is highly recommended this driver or a more
recent version be used. As the latest Catalyst driver for Win98/ME
was 4.7 when NEED FOR SPEED UNDERGROUND 2 was released,
Anti-Aliasing functions are not available for ATI cards
under these O/S's.

sorry for this long post, but everything is according to the readme....and i don't know what to do.... sad.gif
XtremeMaC
check and reinstall dx9c and did u try what i told u about the display properties..
other than this, if u have time, reinstall xp (onto another partition) and see if that works, if not i dunno biggrin.gif
magicfly
directX seems to be installed correctly and about the display properties is fine. it's strange because i play toca2 on full details )with 3d engine of course) and nfsu2 like an old driving game for DOS mad.gif
magicfly
here a screenshot...look the road...you see all those squares... is it normal?
XtremeMaC
can't answer that, that's the first time i've looked at that part of the road, so it might be like that on mine too.. anyways how about getting a new graphics card biggrin.gif (whatever u do don't get an mx card..)
magicfly

my friend has a p4 3.2ghz with ati 9550... and it goes slowly as mine sad.gif
XtremeMaC

@magicfly: I experienced the same Problem with a GF6800 GT in NFSU2. I just installed the newest NVidia drivers and everything worked fine again. Did you install the newest drivers for your graphics card already?

magicfly
ehi boys...also with catalyst 4.12 it gives me some squares on the road and on the sky....

ok: i've used 800x600 resolution (very crappy default) and without blir motion, fog, no antialiasing...is there a setting it uses GFX card so much i need to toggle?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP

I think I'm running it on 1024x768, Antialiasing full, all effects on and all details on highest setting.
This is my current HW-Config:

MSI Neo2 Platinum 54G
AMD 64 3200+ S939
1024 MB Corsair XMS
Asus V9999 GT/TD 128 MB

Like I said, the newest nVidia driver solved the problem with the squares but it seems weird that you experience the same problems with an ATI card. confused.gif
magicfly
with those settings it goes too slow....and however i DON'T have a crappy pc...so at least at 800x600 it should work fine... sad.gif

oooooow sad.gif if i obly get this shot also from my pc... however i'm trying to tweak some settings...at the moment i'm trying the latest DNA DRIVERS (catalyst mod)...we'll see what will happen smile.gif

Looks like your game is fine for your setup. Your graphics card is the problem. Upgrade that. The pixels you have are because you don't have AA on and your rez is 800. Bump everything up and then run the game and take a screenshot even if it's slow and you will probably see it's your graphics card and the settings it supports.
