I LOVE nLite. I think is it the best app in many years. It makes the difficult easy with efficiency and style. It has made dreams of most users of Windows come true (removing Win apps, unnecessary services, unattended with ease, integration....) 10/10 for nLite

Manna from heaven.

Sweetest thing to happen in ages - that's nLite.
BTW, there would be some people who neither hate nor love nLite - with neutral feelings. There should have been a poll option for those.

Love it! Thanks to nuhi and crew.
Too bad Microsoft doesn't let you choose what components you want to install. I also use Redhat/Fedora Linux which let's you choose exactly what you want to install. Then all of the endless hours nuhi and crew put into nLite would not be required. But thankfully they do it for us.

exactly why i haven't voted.. i've tested nLite on my computer liked the interface and the overall purpose of the app. but I can't use it since I got restore CD's so therefore it serves no purpose to me.

I love it. It is not a program that I absolute have to have. I am for the most part a home user. I got into Google to find an application to make installing Windows easier because I had gotten a virus and couldn't find a cure. I still don't know what the virus was. I think I located MSFN because of un-attended.
When I got here, I found nLite, a lot of nice people and a lot of information. I knew I had come across something really cool when I saw nLite. With some time having gone by, I now see quite a bit of value to a number of people. It lowers the risk of infection, speeds up your OS, makes reinstalling
much easier, intergrates hotfixes, intergrates drivers and when I finally get a CD done properly, it will install any programs I want. All at the same time. I can imagine it will save IT's many hours of work each.
Now, if I have a problem with Windows, I will have to make a judgement call as to wether it will be quicker to try to repair it (google it, search, look, try and maybe repair) or back up a couple of files and reintall. Hmmmmm. nLite will probably win more often than not for me.

How would anyone hate something so useful like nLite?
It numbs the mind thinking... why?

Still... there are people who do not believe in God. So, we have to respect freedom of speech for those ppl.

Problems with nLite are caused by the following:
1. Your own stupidity/absentmindedness.
2. A bug in nLite that will eventually be fixed.
I
LOVE nLite. I won't name my kid after it but I think it is a godsend...but uploaded by a determined man. To have the freedom of choice for which components you want and don't...to be able to decrease the memory footprint and HD space so much and in turn, customizing and enhancing security, speed and performance so much...
EXCELLENT AWESOME Etc. Worth every dollar donated to Nuhi for all his hard work. I am loyal to nLite and all it's future versions!
Cheers,

Man! are you joking? Even a complete id*** can use nLite. Nuhi made a great effort so we can customize Windows installation with ease. Read the begginers guide in nLite's thread. Then post again if you had problems.
angadsingh007
Feb 25 2005, 11:03 AM
I never talked about its appearence/easy of use. Its very easy to use indeed.
But if nuhi is reading this, then i suggest that at least tell the user which files are going to get edited in the distribution folder, and give the user an option to backup those files before editing them ...
It was really a pain in the pass for me... bcoz first of all i attempted the HD install from an "nLited" distribution folder... i was'nt aware of this bug in nLite which does'nt allow HD installs..
nLite should show detailed information to the user about which files are being added/deleted/modified in the distribution folder and the option to backup/restore them...

angadsingh007, I know of the winnt.exe issues, but not with the winnt32.exe method if that is what you were referring to. Anyway you can contact me on PM or post a topic on the nLite forum. But since you want a detailed report and essentially more control it is obvious that you want to do things manually. Nothing bad with that of course.

nLite is a really useful tool allowing to integrate drivers and remove all the bloat from XP. Too bad it depends on .NET so you can only use it inside a virtual machine :-/

What do you mean "can only use it inside a virtual machine"? Or do you mean that's how you use it since you prefer not to install .NET? I don't like .NET either but a few of my favorite tools and ATI's video driver user interface use it so I install the ones that are necessary which are usually only .NET 2.0 these days for me.

I mean I will not install .NET on the machine I do my normal work with. So the only chance to use nLite is a virtual machine, but it's not too bad. You are right that there're some other nice tools that require .NET but for most of thoose there're alternatives without that crap. For example the ATI drivers I replaced with the modded Omega drivers a long time ago.

Jun 4 2008, 03:44 PM
I see. Yeah, I can't blame you for avoiding .NET as long as possible. For XP installations, I use DriverPacks and select the option to install the old ATI Control Panel with the latest driver instead of the Catalyst Control Center, but under Vista I don't have that option. But I still use .NET for My Movies, some NeoSmart Technologies tools (EasyBCD and iReboot).
At least .NET 2.0 is way better than .NET 1.x. .NET 3.0 and 3.5 take way too long to install though, and nothing I use requires it, so...

Well,
I love and hate nlite.
Was a real nlite-junkie.

Unfortunately donīt have the time for testing anymore.
Since the "alternative runtimes" are gone, itīs very hard to use nlite on a PC where you canīt install .NET on.
Last time I installed .NET in a portable sandbox (wish I remembered which it was) and gave nlite the rights to use the data in the sandbox.
So everything worked fine.
Nlite ran, Iso built and burned, outside the box of course.
Afterwards the sandbox was deleted and no traces of .NET were to be found after ccleaner was run.
BUT BE CAREFUL !
E.g. "Sandboxie" is a good program, but in some aspects even worse than .NET.
It simply "masquerades" its "sandboxed browser" as a "service" and sneaks through your firewall unnoticed !!!

Ace program, gamers should really like this. I always used to stop (services) and remove as much of the windows junk as possible. With nlite (and vlite) most of it's done already, on a new install

. Saves alot of time for me atleast.
Even for non gamers it's useful, speeds up your boot process, and can even get rid of some security issues. It doesn't cause errors and problems if you know what your doing

Can't beat it, great app!!!!!
