my mom took away the cable for the playstation (as usual....) so i had nothing to do. i decided why not pull out the gold old nintendo 64. now this brought back memories. played a few round of super smash, then a match of mario tenis. quite fun. and the graphics arn't that bad either laugh.gif . so much fun, brought back childhood memories.

anyone else still have their "ancient" gaming systems? lets start a new generation of gamers biggrin.gif

retro gaming is very popular now. I actually sold / gave away my old systems only last year, and just use emulators now if i want. So i never need to leave the PC! cool.gif

Past moments become the 'good old days' and todays good moment will become one also.

Ok, how about this. Anybody remember Pong? Hooked it up to the tv, had two handheld controls with a dial on each. You controled the onscreen paddles that did no more than go up or down, you on your side of the screen, them on theirs. The ball moved back and forth and you blocked it's passage. You could put and angle on the deflection and increase the speed of the ball if you moved the paddle in the relative opposite direction of the balls travel. Black background, white rectangle for a paddle and a white disk for the ball. Still got mine boxed up somewhere in the basement. 25+ years ago. How's that for 'good old days', sven? More than a decade before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye. woot.gif

You guys seen the Atari Flashback? http://www.atari.com/us/games/atari_flashback/7800

ZX Spectrum, three games I played all the time...:

1. Elite - Space trading/combat game
2. Jet Set Willy...... wicked platform game
3. Jetpac. Fly a jetpac on the moon and shoot everything.

I still have the machine and games, but the keyboard don't work anymore.

The good 'ole days eh? cool.gif thumbup.gif

My Xbox rules, it is the ultimate retro machine! My xbox includes EVERY single game from all the following consoles from all countries on the hard drive (Whole romsets): MSX, C64, AMIGA, APPLE II, ATARI 2600, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Gameboy Color, Gameboy Advance, Game Gear, Genesis, Sega CD, Sega 32x, Neo Geo, and lots of PSX games. I just think of an old game I used to play or played once and find it and play it. Xbox emulates the systems except N64 100% Perfect. For n64 some games to not run that fast (733MHz processcor emulating n64) The sounds are 100% exact and same with the speed and all.

I sure do. Atari 2600. Have every cartridge I ever bought (also the manuals). I loved when they were getting rid of the system because I loaded up on those $5 specials. When I first got asteroids I played 'till I had calluses. I remember Pitfall totally rocked (mapped out the whole game). Pitfall was cool since it was the 1st game I had that instead of a dot/box, you got a guy with arms and legs!!
The only thing I was wondering... I wanted to replace the switch box that came with it with one of those "auto switchers" that sensed when there was channel 3/4 signal it would automatically connect that to the anntena port so there was no need to reach behind the TV and slide the switch. I've tried one from Radio Shack, but it didn't work for me (I think it was for an original nintendo). Has anyone gotten one to work with the 2600?
<SparTacuS>
I'm with Tomcat - The Speccy Rooled!

Best game ever - Alien8 (from Ultimate, who later grew into Rare producing Nintendo games)

LOL - I actually started making a Quke III mod to replicate Alien8, I'll have to revive it.

would you like to play at least with a flash version of some sonic stages? PM if you want it.

I dunno whether this will bother you folks, but if any of you like to try out emulation, head over to http://emu-russia.km.ru/?l=en smile.gif , Tonnes of ROM's available for alot of retro consoles and computers, or http://romhustler.net/si/ which might have some stuff the former doesn't offer. As for emulators, well they're easy enough to hunt down.

Have fun! biggrin.gif

If you must know, I'm a 16 and 8 bit kid lol, Master system, NES, Mega Drive and SNES ALL THE WAY! woot.gif

Emulating is a cheap alternative to the real thing...

To actually play with an old console such as the NES with those akward (real ergonomical tongue.gif) controllers behind an old TV will give you the best retro-feeling! Also I'd like to sit on the couch, instead of sitting behind the computer.

Okay, with a few clicks you can play virtually every game ever released for every console.. but nothing beats the real thing!

Anyway, this http://www.the-underdogs.org/ is a good site for classic games for the PC, where you sometimes may get the downlaod the game if it's abandoned.
lylo
Yeah I still got my NES, and theres nothing better then hooking it up from time to time and blitzing Power Blade, Wrath of the Black Manta, Mega Man 2, Bionic Commando (Possibly the best NES game ever!) woot.gif
phoenix_nf
underdogs is good, but they allow you to downlaod only one game at a time. hey anyone knows how to d/load the games from there using getright.
indianarchie
i still have my old 8-bit atari cnsole..along with the cartridges i brought then..all those 323-in one and 150-in one and even a 10000 in one !!! LOL
neil
I found my old ZX Spectrum 48k in the loft last year, and a box with joysticks, cables, a tape deck, magazines, around 300 cassettes full of games. Some where originals, but most were 60 min tapes with about 20 games on each side - so i guess i must have close to 5000 speccy games to blast away the hours with.
Unfortunately, the vital LOAD button is missing, i remember my dad removing it because i spent too much time on it instead of doing my homework smile.gif so you have to use the rubber end of a pencil to press the contacts down.
Carmon
jeese i got loads the old systems i got:

- Commadore 64
- Spectrum
- Atari
- NES
- SNES
- N64
- Gameboy Classic
- Gameboy pocket
- Mega drive
- Mega CD
lol all in a cupboard for thet big rainy day lol
lylo
Or for a big eBay clear out laugh.gif It's surprising how well they sell, a friend of mine is just about to bid on a Sega Master System with 50+ games (All Boxed + Instructions) for £60! A pretty sweet deal for seller and buyer in my opinion! I know most of you are all for the ulitmate retro re-living, but I really do think that in today's age, it just makes sense to go to emulation now, especially where older systems are concerned.

Do you REALLY want to sit for 10 minutes plus watching your old spectrum and commodore games loading, while having to listen to the annoying screetching (as if you were back on a 28 k modem!) and sitting at all the flashing colours and s*** with the big loading screen in the middle lol.

You could always use one of these:

I still have my Fast Load cartridge. It's sitting on my 300 baud modem!
lylo
Wow.... now I never knew of those but that seems like its technology pushed to the max!!!! :woot:
phoenix_nf
um can you copy a game from your comp and use it on your gaming console......just a thought.

Still remember Perfect Dark, Goldeneye 007, Donkey Kong, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie all from the good old Nintendo 64. If I may say it, the best console ever. It had the best games. Perfect Dark lasted four years with constant playing (right after school, five min of homework and then away to play). Long since i played it, planning to begin again soon. You'll see, I played it so much that i got way to tired of it............

Best Regards

I still have my N64.

Games:
Goldeneye
Mortal Kombat 4
The World Is Not Enough
Banjo-Kazzoey
Pokemon Stadium

N64 is not the greatest console of all time. Nintendo focuses on games for kids. That's why so many Mario based games. Their best games were GoldenEye 007, and Zelda - Ocarina of Time. Why? Because it was the best they did with graphics, gameplay, storyline and realism.
The best gaming console of all time will be the next proceeding console to be released and so on simply because they always gets better, can handle higher graphics, features, options, etc. So far, though, it's the PC. A game can only get better as newer sound cards, video games, processors, RAM, and higher graphics come around.
