OH, i'm on record to how good it's running-- tons faster: pages load so quickly, screeens refresh so quickly for the OS itself, not just explorer & IE.... more apps can be run concurrently... better recovery when low on resources.....

I have nothing but good things to say..... & no bad tradeoffs to have to swallow..

I am certainly enjoying the new SP2 however I have one small problem that I need help to work around.

After downloading and installing SP2, something funny is happening with my networking. I can be on the net for hours, my browser is Firefox. When I leave the computer, I am unable to get back on the net. I am unable to get back on the net until I reboot my computer and then everything is fine again, until unattended again.

I run a wirless card, and have checked all startup programs and although nothing has changed, I unable to fix this little annoying problem.

Any help would be appreciated. blushing.gif

You may want to look at your device settings and make sure that card is not set to go to sleep. That's the only idea I have.

Hi,

the service packs has added more life into win98se.
I have more fun than problems.

well now that that app that mdgx finaly gives me choices n stuff in combonation with the 98se sp 2.0 rc1 ,i've had more speed than problems plus it makes it look more modern

It's too early for me to notice any difference. My standard W98SE crashed "only" once in a few days. But it works fine so far except the specific issues I posted earlier.

Yes. It's faster and it even looks better. And it hasn't bluescreened on me since SP 1.6.2. I use it professionally because I would have to rewrite TONS of scripts to run on 2000/XP otherwise.

2000/xp r completely different beasts than the win9x beasts
nt is a big beast with big fangs while dos is the small beast with small fangs.

Just dlg sp2, but on 1.6.2 haven't had bsod in over 6mos, 98se is far better than XP could ever hope to be! Has anyone been able to break the 1gb ram barrier? Would like to max my mobo, 2gb.

got 1 GB,98 sees it,maybe in a few years i'll go past 1 gb
wish we could slipstream the 512 mb fix into the 98 install so we would not need a limit of 512 the to put the rest of it in.maybe the only way is to rewrite 98 se or take parts of it out and put em back in with the fixes.

Ya, I've done numerous searches and did find 3 peeps said they were running at 2gb[can't remember where] but also were running 64 bit processors[2-AMD,1-Intel] since it'll be awhile b4 I can move up guess 1gb gonna be the limit, Maybe 98ntfs laugh.gif would do it tongue.gif

I also only have 1 GB. Perhaps 2 GB could be possible by running XMSDSK and setting your swap drive to be on the ramdisk. Maybe in 2008 I will have that much memory.

FYI I can install fresh on 1 GB machine w/o problems.
