SiMoNsAyS
ps2 of course, you can do almost anything with it
un4given1
Playstation 2 gets my vote. Sure, the graphics on the XBox may be better but keep in mind it has a whole year of extra technology in it. I am a BIG RPG fan, and te XBox just doesn't have enough to make me go out and waste my money on it.
lylo
Cube all the way here lol but hey, fanboys will be fanboys! tongue.gif
Martin Zugec
un4given1: I like RPGs like KOTOR 1&2, Fable, Jade Empire, that is why I like my xbox smile.gif

SiMoNsAyS: Strange. I thought U can do almost anything on xbox, what for example did U mean?
SiMoNsAyS
if we don't talk about some "projects" like linux kit for ps2, you can: of course play your favorite game backups, watch divx/xvid movies with a player stored on your MC, use a HD device with store possibilities (games, savegames...), play master system snes amiga neogeo cd... roms using emulators, you can even use (some of) your usb keyboard/mouse/gamepad on your ps2!
Martin Zugec
Well, I asked because compared to Xbox PS2 is only for games.. I got media center (divx, xvid, quicktime etc.) connected to internet with ftp and http server, 120GB disk and few other things... With mouse and keyboard of course. Every morning I am reading RSS feeds during breakfast and listening to internet radios...
sven
ill stick with my playstation. i got a computer with good speakers (probably better then the tvs i have here), dvd player, internet, games, and all i need. why would i need an xbox to do the same thing? plus, what games are you gonna play? the only one really is Halo or Halo 2. get a ps2 with network adaptor, and that all you need (if you own a computer, and im assuming you do if you in the Microsoft forum network)
un4given1
soulin: I was really disappointed by Fable. They pushed that it was an "online" game and that got me really excited. I almost bought an XBox because of that. But when it came down to it Fable was only "Online aware" meaning that it downloaded stuff from the net but it was not an online game at all. I feel they lied to market Fable. I'm a big Final Fantasy XI fan, but I played that on my PC.
TiXer
XBox gets a vote from me.. Personaly I love Fable, Baldurs gate 2, Halo 1 & 2 and DoA.. I would probably be just as happy if I had Playstation 2, but Xbox is good enough for me.. yes.gif
hamstar
XBOX is crap.. I ain't no fanboy either.. I just hate xbox.. It's ridiculous.

A family of four fits inside!!

I aint a huge fan of the XBox either but jeez that arguement is WAY too biased to be worth considering!
sonu27
PS2 Slimline!

Soo small and portable, but delicate.
Martin Zugec
Ah, I played only singleplayer Fable and didnt notice any suggestion there should be mutliplayer...

BTW I love Xbox - I was big enemy of consoles long time ago... And then I found xbox next to trash can, repaired it (US power adapter in european network), modify it (thats the reason I love xbox - even it is from Microsoft, it is absolutely modifiable, now I am working on using powerglow to control dashboard).

2hamstar: Read it through - it wrote someone who probably never saw xbox and hate it (for unknown reason) - if U compare xbox and ps2, this R facts:

Xbox is stronger, with better graphics and more customizable (which is in my opinion advantage). Disadvantages is just few games R released every month sad.gif

PS2 is older, but have MUCH more games.
Carmon
I have a Gamecube i love it Small nice to look at and i can play Resident Evils on them so wat else do i really need lol
DigeratiPrime
i have the gamecube, best console imo for several reasons, for everything else there's the PC.

Reasons:
Best Games (that arent already on the PC).
Most Exclusive Games.
Wavebird Controller is Awesome.
Very Portable/Durable: light, small.
Looks Great: Platinum/Small.
phoenix_nf
Null vote, i dont have any of them...sticking to my pc. it beats all of them fair and square.
lylo
Well then you're a bit screwed once youv'e had a night out at the pub and everyone wants to go over to somebodie's place for a multiplay game session tongue.gif It's not like you can easily set up a LAN for a bunch of mates to play on newwink.gif

The gamecube is more durable than the xbox.

It has been tested.

I'm not going to base a vote on the types of games it has. Each person will have their own preference about a game, anyway. To say "Xbox rules because of these games" is going to be ultimately debatable to many others, it's ridiculous. The Xbox is the biggest console ever which is no surprise anyway since it comes from Windows. Filesize and physical size.
I own a PSTwo and like it. It's not my favorite gaming machine, though. Limited features compared to the PS2.
GameCube? HA! Please, folks. When this console came out they said it was to be the next generation of gaming from Nintendo. That's exact why they went from a N64 which was 2D and 3D mixed to the Cube which was a, ah yes, 2D and 3D mixed! What next generation? It's the same **** thing! Now they make yet another one called Revolution? If that thing is the same, I am going to punch a wall sooo hard just to vent my utter disgust.
Now to choose my favorite gaming console. None. The PC is the best. smile.gif (Null Vote)
Gouki
XBOX offcourse! What other console can u do all the things (and the easy way we do it) u do with a Xbox?

Reading a Divx on a PS2 gives more work than a art piece .. and thats when the PS2 doesnt fail.

Can u hook the PS2 to the PC and use it as a Multimedia Center?

Xbox rulez! thumbup.gif

Yeah, but an expensive way. laugh.gif.

I for the Xbox all the way!!! PS2 is not bad, but the Xbox has better graphics and much, much, much better online play.

Also, Xbox's can be modded without opening the box. I Softmodded mine a while back to play my 'backups'. Never had to crack the case.
sonu27
The only reason it is much better is becuase it requires a faster connection. While I use 300k on NFS U2 netplay.

Do XBox users need to pay per month or something for XBox Live?
Gouki
Not here in Portugal ... But we dont have Xbox Live available for us, so we have to do a little hack newwink.gif thumbup.gif

You're kidding, right? Granted, PS2 has more games, but it also has more CRAP games than every other console *combined*. XBox has recently gotten great RPG's like Fable (which is superb in spite of not quite pegging the hype) and the new Jade Empire. I'll tell you what, though: JE *alone* is worth the system purchase.

In addition, the Live service is *far* beyond anything Sony offers or is even *rumored* to offer anytime soon.

Sorry, but PS2 over XBox? You gotta be smoking crack.

Nope, it's $50 US for the *year*. When XBox360 comes out your XBL account becomes a "Gold" account (same price, full 24/7 access to play your games online and everything else), while everyone who even *buys* an XBox 360 will get a FREE silver account allowing free play on weekends and some other goodies, as well as access to all the other neat features.

Should be **** slick! smile.gif

Yeah, you're a fanboi alright. What a load of crap that link is. Does anyone here believe for ONE second that the PS2 is actually MORE powerful than the XBox? All you have to do is look at a game like Splinter Cell, compare the XBox to the PS2 and you'll see plain as day what a LIE that is! smile.gif

Sorry, but PS2, while it DOES have a few good games (IMHO, the Metal Gear Solid series has one of the most well told stories of any console game to date) the system CANNOT be said to be more powerful than XBox. It's just idiocy to even make the claim.

Yeah, they definitely should have, the XBox would have made a better show of it.

However, I DO have to say that the Metal Gear series is, IMHO, the single best storytelling going on on ANY of the major consoles. Kojima is awesome, and Microsoft definitely needs to dump a load of cash into Konami's lap to make games for 360.

I've gotta say PS2. I prefer racing games to RPGs, and GT4 and the burnout series make my day. Also, I've got the slimline, and I can tell you that it's much more portable than the XBox, and possibly the GameCube (dunno about this... but it's **** portable). I can carry the console, 4 controllers, and several games in a box no bigger than your average shoebox.

Not to mention that my investment in games for my old PSX and PS2 will come in handy when I buy the PS3. We don't even know if XBox360 will be backwards compatible...

reason is similar to why halo is not ported to ps2...

i also doubt MGS is the only PS2 game that worths the cash, think about tekken, gran turismo, soul calibur 3 (yes it is said it will only be released for ps2), and many many other titles. PS2 had my vote, not for being more powerful or for having better hardware, most (if not all) of my favorite games are exclusive for that console.
with a PS2 you can also do the same than with the box.

Well, Metal Gear Solid 2 was ported to XBox just fine and ran great, but there is simply no possible way you could get Halo2 to run on PS2. Point is, if it had been *natively* coded for XBox it would have been *greatly* superior (in terms of graphics. Not much could have improved the stories of the MGS games. Part 2 was an exception (too freaking weird at the end) but Part 3 answered those questions (well, most of them) pretty well.

SC3 I expect will come to other consoles later, so I am not worried about that. Out of the 3 versions of SC2, the PS2 version was the *worst*, so I can only assume that it's exclusive solely due to a Sony payoff. As for Tekken and GT, I think they both suck a**. Tekken's controls have sucked since version 1 and they never got better. GT3 and 4 were OK, but the sole high-poly item in the entire game was the car you drove, everything else was low poly with nice textures. Sad, really.

Anyway, you're right that there are more good games for PS2, such as Final Fantasy X and a few others. As a *percentage* of total games I'd have to say that Playstation has the lowest ratio of good games to crap games, though, with Nintendo having the highest (almost all the gamecube games I've played have been very well designed and lots of fun) while the XBox sat in the middle.

man i was forced to quote you, tekken suck a**???
tekken is the best fighting game ever created (or at least the best without weapons).
there are multiples game modes, i.e. on tekken tag you could play bowling or in tekken5 you can play something similar to "final fight", the old street fighting game.
the controls are perfect for me, a couple of characters have more than 100 combos. tekken5 is known to use 98% of ps2 potential.
i'm not a ps2 fanboy but a tekken fanboy tongue.gif

about gt4 i have to agree but is a really funny game and people love to pass the drive licenses smile.gif

Oh, I'm sorry but you be smokin' CRAC, dude smile.gif Tekken sucks BALLS and always has. The controls are miserable and unresponsive, the graphics are about the same as pretty much any other PS2 fighter, etc. And *bowling* as a selling point for a fighter? You've got to be kidding me.

On any day of any year, Soul Calibur and DOA series' both kick the p*** out of Tekken.

As for GT4, I have to admit a bias: I don't like racing games, at least, not unless the car has weapons and I can run over pedestrians. Now *that* is fun! smile.gif We need a new "Carmageddon" game!

i don't smoke (crac or anything), and i don't like it to be suggested newwink.gif

for your post is clear that you don't have any (even a small) idea of what you're talking. you must be one of those pro-xbox guys who hates anything that is only available for ps2.

tekken is the fighting game with MOST combos so i'm wondering why control sucks... is an arcade game man, how controls can "suck"?!
you must get outhere from your X-Barricade and look for other opinions... ign award, 9.3/10 at gamespot, 4.5/5 at gamepro, 4.5/5 at playstation.about ...
man, your *bowling* never was a selling point, i said that in tekken you can do many more things than just "fighting", don't be that picky with my words tongue.gif

soulcalibur is one of my other prefered games but you can't compare DOA or soulcalibur with tekken, is like comparing splinter cell with MGS. they both are similar of course, but not of the same taste... but hey, wait 1 minute, i see your point here! DOA and soulcalibur are available for the X console and tekken not!! lol laugh.gif

... so you want a game of racing and killing ... what if you return to the old 80s? buy carmaggedon again and keep the fun! smile.gif

No, I'm not at all one of those "pro XBox" guys who hates everything PS2. Far from it. As a matter of fact, I own XBox, PS2, GameCube, SNES, NES, Genesis, Sega CD, Master System, Sega Saturn, Dreamcast, N64, Game Gear, GB Color, GBA, Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad and an Intellivision (of all things), along with a library of more than 300 games. Of those games about 40 are PS1 games (and they're pretty much the 40 that are actually *good* out of all the other garbage out for that system) and about 32 of which are PS2 games.

Moreover, I know *exactly* what I am talking about. Yes, Tekken has the most combos. Big yay. I could say I have the most hair on my a** crack, does that make me special? No. Those combos are worthless if you can't routinely pull them off easily and en masse. Tekken's controls, at least up through version 4, are too unresponsive and slow to make for much fun, IMHO. The other games I mentioned have simply always been more fun, and that was equally true when they were for Dreamcast, before XBox ever came out.

As for GT4, I could really care less. As I said before I *am* biased about racing games because I don't like them on the whole. I find them to be boring, tedius and irritating at best, barring the inclusion of slick gameplay features (a la the upcoming Full Auto from Sega, which I played at E3 and was frickin' awesome).

Now please, go back and stroke your PS2 to sleep, your FanBoi-ism is showing.

Umm... this is getting a bit heated. Take a valium, and remember, we all can have different opinions. Disagreement doesn't have to be violent or rude.

Again, I'll say that for a pure gaming console (which is what this poll was about) the PS2 takes the prize. The games are generally better on PS2 than on XBox (by better I mean there's a better selection). The only area that you could say XBox has a hold of the market is in FPS games, but you shouldn't be playing those on a console anyways...

For example, DOA2 (on PS2) was much better than DOA3 (on XBox). The controls for DOA2 just fit right, while I was fighting against my own thumbs to get the characters in DOA3 to do what I wanted. The graphics themselves in DOA2 are hard to beat. If you're niggling that they're not good enough, then VR is probably the only thing that would satisfy you.

As for racing games, I like them a lot. I've always grown up watching Formula1 and the WRC, so when games like GT3 and GT4 are released, I get excited. I find it much more useful to know how to drive a car agressively than to be able to blow someone's virtual head off. In game driving can easily be transferred to the real world, while aiming and shooting cannot (trust me... try hitting a target at 200 yards with an SKS-47, the semi-auto version of the AK-47).

Actually it's not that I have a lot of cash to spend, it's that I've been collecting for a LONG time. However, my hardware knowledge comes from having been a Systems Engineer for the past decade and change. I think, however, it's VERY clear that you are pro Sony, period. I don't think you can argue reasonably that PS2 games are generally better. For the most part, PS2 games I've tried (renting, largely, because I never buy before I try) tend to suck. Either their graphics suck, or they're another copy of a copy of a copy, etc. Not all, mind you, and I'm not saying there aren't a large number of good PS2 games (As I said, I own a large number of them myself) but that number as compared to the total number of available games for PS2 is absurdly low. The same holds true for PS1. Lots of good games, a WHOLE HUGE lot of mediocre to crap games. Moreover, games that are incredible on other systems suck very badly on PS2 (Splinter Cell is a great example, and Soul Calibur II's best version was probably gamecube with XBox coming in a close second).

XBox has some stinkers too, to be sure, but on the whole I'd say the number is a lot smaller percentage of the total library than PS2's is. Gamecube, well, I have yet to see *any* bad games for that console. It's major weakness is its small library, but Nintendo's devotion to quality and to innovative, original games and gameplay is second to absolutely none.

Almost without exception Sony's best games are third party. Sony themselves produce little to nothing worth playing, much less owning. Developers make PS2 games for one reason and one reason alone: The console has penetrated the market *very* well thanks to excellent advertising and extraordinary hype. To this day there are still people who delude themselves into believing that PS2 is more powerful than XBox or Gamecube for Chrissakes.

Like it or not, with the coming generation Sony's got a problem on its hands, and its recent releases of info are designed *purely* to try and throw Microsoft's new system off its game (so to speak) like they did with Dreamcast. As in that scenario, expect their claims to be exagerated and not at all well delivered upon. Just as an example, 1080p. Good god, people, as of today there isn't a TV on the market that can accept a 1080p HDMI signal, not even from *Sony*. There are numerous variants of 1080p sets that *upscale* a 720 to 1080, and there are several variants that use different methods to *get* to 1080p (check out some AVS forums, many will tell you that these are not "true" 1080p sets). 1080p capable digital sets aren't expected on the market until later this year, and penetration won't really start to happen in large numbers for *several* years. One might also point out that not ONE broadcaster on the North American CONTINENT broadcasts 1080p. It's 720p or 1080i (with a smattering of 480p's here and there) all the way.
