Great. It took me forever to get V9 and all the subsequent patches stabilized for deployment through GPO. Now it looks like I get to start all over again. Well I hope they at least fixed some of the glaring omissions and bugs in this new version.

Already tested it in VM. Works with the old silent install switches:
CODE
%systemdrive%\install\Symantec\sav10.msi /qb RUNLIVEUPDATE=0 REBOOT=REALLYSUPPRESS
.

At work we have a volume license with Symantec and got our copy of SAV 10 yesterday. Anyway, all I have to say about SAV 10 is wow. There are some great features for anti-malware of various types. Anyway, all old silent switches work, but here's the best part, integrating up-to-date virus definition files has never been easier. Here is the installer's files:
CODE
File Size
-----------------------------------
0x0409.ini 5,495
Data1.cab 13,576,266
instmsiw.exe 1,822,520
Setup.exe 249,856
Setup.ini 1,892
Symantec AntiVirus.msi 5,528,272
VDefHub.zip 7,290,006
Anyway, the VDefhub.zip file is the one were interested in. It contains the virus definition files. To update it, just download the latest Intelligent Updater definition file from Symantec (
Here), open the Intelligent Updater exe file with Winrar, copy the VIRSCAN.ZIP file out, rename it to VDefHub.zip and copy it over the original in the installer's folder. That's all you have to do. The VDefHub.zip is still in the root of an Administrative Install Point if you make one. Also for those who were wondering, Live Update appears to be up-to-date as well.

i did but it seems that i can't make it work.
i have the sav in a folder called sav.
go to run and type drive:\sav\setup.exe /a. the installer starts and ask me where to save. i said a folder called symantec on the same drive. good i have the aip.
fom now on i tried 2 ways:
1. 7zip using this method:
7zip method no luck. when i click the .exe file created it just extracts and that is it.
2. winrar sfx selected all files and right click and choose add to archive then choose create sfx and create solid archive. in the archive opened with winrar o click sfx button and hit the advanced sfx options. in the run after extraction i put the switch i posted and also choose the same folder at path to extract. no luck. also choose to unpack to temporary folder and it says that windows installer can find the path.
have no more ideeas.....
edit
i succeded to make a winrar sfx installer but is not silent. cause i can not figure out a way to make it work if i extract to temporary folder.

Be careful. I installed 10 to test it. By default it sets a startup scan which when you start windows it takes over 100mb of memory and 100% cpu , on my system it never stopped until I opened sav. then it quits. For now you can simply right click on the startup scan and delete, problem solved. I cant belive they put this as a defult for install. I am really starting to wonder about them.
So until I find out how to pre set stuff for the install like with version 9, I am out of luck to make this perfect yet.

hmm, anothewr interesting problem with SAV10 -
windows starts up, and always says "antivirus not installed", and then windows disapears, once it realized SAV10 is installed.
this didnt used to happen with 9.
anyone know if there are any REAL advantages to 10 over 9? i may stick with 9...

This happened to me with 9 and with 10 which I currently have installed. It's not symantec, its the stupid microsoft security center. Not saying symantec antivirus isn't without its bugs

. Security Center also causes a delay on startup.

I have used 9 for a while now and got everything work out of it, I still had to use my pagefile fix with it though. 10 doesnt have the pagefile bug which is the only nice thing.
So far the only thing between 9 and 10 is 10 also looks for spyware and adware, otherwise still the same engine. So as with any new release there are a lot fo bugs. So I will keep useing 9 for the time being. Once an update or two comes out for 10 thing I will upgrade.

From the readme.txt
CODE
Improving client restart performance
------------------------------------
By default, the antivirus client software performs an Auto-Generated
QuickScan when the client computer restarts. QuickScan includes an
enhancement that scans for security risks such as adware and spyware.
This enhancement increases the time required to restart client computers,
and is not configurable from the Symantec System Center.
To improve client startup performance:
1. In the Symantec AntiVirus window, in the left pane, expand
Startup Scans, and then click Auto-Generated QuickScan.
2. In the right pane, click Edit.
3. In the Scan dialog box, on the Quick Scan tab, click Options.
4. In the Scan Options dialog box, under Scan Enhancements, uncheck
Scanning for traces of well-known viruses and Security Risks.
5. Click OK.
6. In the Scan dialog box, click OK.

I can see how in theory a auto scan would be nice. but my god over 100mb of memory and 100% cpu? thats just dumb. I am a programmer and performance is always key. Seems who ever came up with this idea must be new to the game.
Any one read the dilbert comic? I think sav 10 has the same management :-P

I have a problem using PerfectDisk 7.0 (build 34 and 40) together with Symantec AV Corp 10.0.0.359.
When I do an offline(restart) defrag I get the following message after analyzing is done:
PerfectDisk could not lock drive C:\ for exclusive access.
The PC then reboots normally. When I uninstall SAV Corp10 and install SAV Corp9 PerfectDisk works correctly.
Any suggestions?

About removing the Auto Generated Quickscan, add the following regedit to get rid of it.
CODE
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intel\LANDesk\VirusProtect6\CurrentVersion\Custom Tasks]
"CreatedUserQuickScan"=dword:00000001
This needs to be in before a user logs in, so at the t-12 section would be good.

Tried that. No Go. Must the dword be 1 (on) or 0 (off)?
As I've stated the problem is with an offline defrag after restart. It usually start even before the GUI part or any login. I've also deleted the automated startup scan job. In what batch file does WinXP put pre-gui startup jobs?

This is to fix a different problem than your defrag problem. One everyone is having a problem with.
As for the defrag problem you are experiencing, I can not reproduce it in VMWare, using build 40 of Perfect Disk.

For those who don't want to download the full >10MB virus definitions update (to integrate into the install):
> Just perform an ordinary LiveUpdate. After updating, check your %ProgramFiles%\Common Files\Symantec Shared\VirusDefs\ folder. You'll find folders containing entire VirusDefs in the format YYYYMMDD.###. Just go to the latest folder, select all files and zip it up. Name it VDefHub.zip
> Do not compress the VDefHub.zip. ie, set the compression level to Store. You should be getting a file about >=17 MB. This will allow 7zip and other compressors to better compress the entire package, and you'd be saving a few MB's.
> To further reduce the size of your package, remove unneeded dlls from the SAV\System32 folder. You can straightaway delete ctl3d32.dll, msvcp71.dll and msvcr71.dll. mfc71.dll may be safe to delete too, as many programs install this. You can also delete the DLLs present in \System32\Redist\MS\System if you don't plan to install on a Win 9x system.

are you referring to the registry entry fix? I was hoping for a way to correct it from the System Center
I think post # 36 (from the readme) answers my question however:
'is not configurable from the Symantec System Center.'
that sucks :/
what is the point of the system center if you can't completely configure the client install options.

Does anyone else have a problem with running Download Accelerator with 'SAV Corporate 10.0.0.359'. Every time I install Download Accelerator, 'SAV Corporate 10.0.0.359' immediately opens up a window with the following info:
CODE
Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan
Event: Threat Found!
Threat: Adware.DAP
File: C:\Program Files\DAP\DAPBHO.dll
Location: C:\Program Files\DAP
Computer: VISUALTECH
User: VISUALTECH\Sanjay
Action taken: Pending Side Effects Analysis
Date found: Wednesday, May 25, 2005 5:31:53 PM
and another window pops up wanting to delete the 'DAPBHO.dll' file. The end result is I am unable to keep Download Accelerator as long as I have 'SAV Corporate 10.0.0.359' installed. This was not a problem with older versions of SAV Corporate.
Any ideas why this happening or what the solution might be?
