I'll also think about what you said about me taking over the 98SE SP. If I do release a new version of the 98se SP, it will have many of the add-ons (WMI 1.5, WMP 6.4, TTF Font Properties Extension, Wintop, etc.) that were included in the 98FE SP.

Great to be able to update your system in a couple installations.

@ erpdude8 That would be great if you can give us a Win98SE SP3
we are in need of it.You and your work is highly appreciated
wether u do it or not, thanks for just the thought of it. thumbup.gif

PROBLEMCHYLD, I'm NOT making an unofficial 98se SP3. It'll still be a 98se SP2 but will include most of the stuff from the 98 FE SP2 pack.

I'm still recovering from a cold. feeling better now.

estimated release of the new 98se SP might be either Christmas or New Year's

MDGx: speaking of MDAC 911562, the MDAC 2.8 RTM KB911562 breaks WinME Help & Support Center as noted at this page:
http://www.crashfixpc.com/HSfails.htm
The KB911562 patch for MDAC 2.8 SP1 doesnt break ME Help & Support center.
that page also mentions how to re-install Help & Support Center under WinME whenever Help & Support no longer works correctly.

When i install Unofficial DCOM98 Update Full
do i need to install any other updates for dcom98 or this
cover all the updates

Heres a suggestion Packages like Dcom98.exe/KB917344 etc...
why don't you replace the obselete files and repackage with the newer files
it avoids installing like 6 different updates.
Its easier just to install one package with updated files kind of like how u did Q329048
eliminating obselete packages, files and updates
thanks.

I also forgot about 908519/908519fx
Mdac 2.8 sp1/Window Media Player 9
one nice update will be great instead of numerous packages please consider.

last but not least i have Dunzip32.dll/Dzip32.dll Version 5.0.0.8
can you update Q329048?

http://www.mdgx.com/wmp.htm#FIX

Unofficial WMP 6.4 Win9x/ME Q925398 DXMASF.DLL + STRMDLL.DLL fix does NOT work. WMP 6.4 for Win95/98/ME/NT4 uses DXMASF.DLL version 6.4.7 [NOT 6.4.9 like in Win2000/XP/2003]. IE6 SP1 installs WMP 6.4 version 6.4.07.1121 under Win9x/NT4 while Win2000/XP/2003 have embedded WMP 6.4.09.

patch needs to be revised for sure. Note when making unofficial WMP 7.1 patches, the WMP version is 7.01, NOT 7.10.

and I'm not sure if DXMASF.DLL version 6.4.9.1133 will work under Win95/98/ME/NT4 OSes. It does register okay when using "REGSVR32 DXMASF.DLL". I'll mod the version of DXMASF and change it to 6.4.7.1133 and send it to you later in the day.
I'll install WMP64 and WMP71 and will test these patches.

please REMOVE the Q920213.EXE patch off your web site, MDGx. The updated files from unofficial 920213 patch do NOT work under Win98/ME (they are actually Windows-specific based). Running the updated AGENTSVR.EXE file resulted in the error message "The AGENTSVR.EXE file is linked to missing export USER32.DLL:UpdateLayeredWindow". I un-installed MS Agent and re-install it on my WinME computer and original AGENTSVR.EXE file runs with no errors.

If you look at security bulletin MS06-068 and look at the updated MS Agent files VERY carefully (in the Security Update Information section), the patches do NOT have binarilly identical files. The Win2000 version of 920213 update has 2.0.0.3424 of Agentsvr.exe BUT the file size is 242,448 bytes. The WinXP edition of 920213 fix also has 2.0.0.3424 of Agentsvr.exe BUT its file size is 256,512 bytes. AND the file size for the Agentsvr.exe file from the Win2003 edition of the 920213 patch is also different from the Win2000 & XP KB920213 updates.

note to the_guy: can you create unofficial OE 923694 MS06-076 security patches for OE6 SP1 and OE 5.5 SP2?

note to MDGx: let's revise unofficial 905915 update for IE 5.5 SP2 and include version 5.50.4970.2300 of the URL.DLL file which is included in the KB925454 update for IE 5.01 SP4/Win2000 SP4.

speaking of the pngfilt.dll file, Tihiy, all KB925454 updates have newer pngfilt.dll files.

unofficial Q926247 SNMP patch needs to be REMOVED from MDGx's web site (PROBLEMCHYLD, the Q926247 patch is mostly created by the_guy; MDGx's unofficial patches ALWAYS display a prompt to install patches). Like the unofficial Q920213 MS agent patch, Q926247 SNMP patch is incompatible with Windows 9X/ME/NT4 systems and fails with either a "link to missing export" error message or crashes W9XMENT4 systems.

Looks like unofficial Q925398 patch needs to be revised. The CopyFiles section (or whatever the CopyFiles section is named as) should have STRMDLL.DLL as "STRMDLL.DLL,,,4". This will make the patch copy its STRMDLL.DLL file and overwrite the existing the version.

@erpdude8: What errors are appearing with the unofficial 926247 patch? What OS are these errors appearing on? What missing export? There shouldn't be any on a 98SE system, I might just revise it to not install on 95.

I'll be sending a revised Q926247 update to MDGx in the next few days with an install prompt and it won't install on Windows 95. Replace snmp.exe and snmpapi.dll with the versions from the Windows 95 Winsock2 update.

I'll test the unofficial Q926247 files on a Win95 + Winsock2 PC. I'll post the results later this afternoon.

also has Q926247 been tested under NT4?

doesnt work under Win95, EVEN with Winsock2 installed. Running SNMP.EXE from Q926247 under Win95+WS2 displays the "The SNMPAPI.DLL file expects a newer version of Windows. Upgrade your Windows version" error message. BOTH the snmp.exe and snmpapi.dll files from Q926247 will work properly under Win98 & ME.

NO DONT! MDGx already created the unofficial 314147 fix for Win95. The updated SNMP.EXE & SNMPAPI.DLL files from Win98's Q314147 update DO work properly under Win95.

MDGX, regarding your latest Timezone hotfixes ...

Can I confirm with you that you now only need to install Q928388 and not also Q929120??

My testing revealed that absolutely nothing of value is installed with Q929120 when the latest version of Q928388 has already been done ... but I have been known to smoke a spliff or 6 so I could be hallucinating ...

and thanks as always for these unofficial hotfixes, it will soon be the case that auto-patcher has more unofficial hotfixes than the mouldy old official ones ... and better ones too!

You're right.
As I said in this post:
http://www.msfn.org/board/?s=&showtopi...st&p=607811
The pair Q928388 + Q929120 [9x OSes] of patches and also
the pair KB928388 + KB929120 [NTx OSes] are respectively identical.
Take your pick, install the one you wish.

Italian users:
IT928388 installs also the fix from Q929120.

P.S.:
In the near future I'll delete one of them [probably the older KB number].
I'll also create another Italian IT929120 and will delete the older one [IT928388].

MDGx, regarding your new NUSB24.EXE ...

I've got it installing properly ... my code can differentiate between 23e and 24 ... but there's one teeny weeny little problem ... it prompts if the USER wants to reboot even when I use the /Q:A /R:N switches .... so it can't go into auto-patcher yet ... but I want to release v1.8 very soon !!! Can you look into this?

Cheers mate.

PS - thanks for the info about the Timezone updates --- your notes did say that was the case I was just being a bit paranoid and wanted to be sure.

WARNING: PLEASE DO NOT RE-INSTALL OR RERUN COPY2GB.EXE/C2GBME.EXE files if these updates are ALREADY installed!!!!! I did this and they rendered my Win98 & ME systems unusable & unbootable, initiating an automatic shutdown after startup (AND the updated KERNEL32.DLL file was NOT copied after the original KERNEL32.DLL file was renamed!)

I had to put in a Win98 boot disk on my Win98se machine and rename KERNEL32.ORI back to KERNEL32.DLL in DOS mode to get the PC running again [same with the WinME computer].

If you REALLY NEED to re-install these patches, UNINSTALL them first, reboot and then RERUN the patches!!

MDGx, can you address this FATAL problem with the COPY2GB.EXE & C2GBME.EXE patches?

scratch that. I've just revised the C2GBME.INF, COPY2GB.INF, FE.INF & SE.INF files to deal with this problem. I'll send you the updated INF files. the updated KERNEL32.DLL files will now be copied as KERNEL32.NEW to the Windows\System folder and the INF files will make WININIT rename the old kernel file [from kernel32.dll to kernel32.ori] and WININIT will also rename the new kernel file [from kernel32.new to kernel32.dll] - all this according to the revised INF files. this will ensure the old kernel file gets renamed AND the new kernel file gets renamed from kernel32.new extension to kernel32.dll, even when re-installing the Copy2Gb Kernel32.dll fixes
Drugwash
How many levels of installing/uninstalling would this system allow? Would it also take into account broken (interrupted/unfinished) installations/uninstallations?
I'm asking because with all these power/ultra/super/extra/etc-packs, there might be a chance of multiple installation of the same patch, which might wreak havoc as is or while trying to uninstall (if needed).

This was the exact reason i made an installer for an older version of Copy2Gb --- to account for those trying to re-install it. Well, to be completely honest, to account for ME trying to needlessly re-install it and breaking my boot routine (can't find kernel32.dll) -- I should have made a bigger song and dance about it at the time, you may have been able to use some of my batch code.
